During much of the 20+ years I have posted here, I laid my head down in the small burg of Ava,Mo near the Mo/Ark state line. But to reel in Mrs Perkins I had to pack my bags and head to that hotbed of civilization in SW Missouri,Springfield.

Sjeff or anyone else who saw it–
Can you give a summary of the Marmol press conference?

Pugs, been a few years but I think the storyline was older veteran pitcher that doesn’t have his good stuff anymore…think he plays for Detroit Tigers….hears he may get traded at trading deadline…considering retirement…in between innings he has flashbacks of his life, thinks about mistakes he made with his family…as it goes on he realizes he has a perfect game going in the 6th or so…finds out the owner decided to trade him…he has some tough decisions to make. I won’t give away the ending but it is worth a view. The baseball game looks good, too. The movie guys didn’t screw it up like they usually do.

Scherzer poor mans Kevin Costner? He’s pitching like Costner in For the Love of the Game.

Power Rangers had Amy Jo Johnson. I could tolerate that. My dinner is probably going to be eating chicken nuggets and green beans the 2 1/2 year old refused to eat and some chocolate ice cream

I love the sci-fi from 50’s. Print and reels. Huge fan of Ray Bradbury. Just received a dvd double feature in the mail, William Beaudine’s last directing gig (in 1966). And it looks to be a doozy. The 2 titles are Billy the Kid vs Dracula and Jesse James meets Frankenstein’s Daughter. Having 2 small children means I have à steady stream of Peppa Pig, Bumblenums, and CoCoMelon constantly defiling my TV so I plan to stay up late after the wifey and kids have hit the sack for some peace and cheesy sci-fi.

This is one of the few games I actually got to watch. Didn’t seem like ball traveling at all. Matz making my prediction of being glad we “had” to add 4th year look good. He already has ERA almost fixed after that disaster vs Pirates. Looks like the smart way to attack him is swing early. Helsey really looks nasty. He was a starter a long time ago too….Still not sure I trust Gallegos with the added attention to spin enhancement

The Cardinal prospect Bryan Anderson was a 4th rd pick and a lot of people saw his lh bat as a compliment to Molina. He hit fairly consistantly but I don’t think he was well regarded behind the plate. In 2010 when he was prob at apex of prospect status, Jason LaRue had the backup job with the big club. In 2011, it was Gerald Laird and Tony Cruz. Anderson eventually aged out and signed FA deal with White Sox but never amounted to much.

Seems like we faced Luzardo in spring training and he threw well. In his last start he K’d 12 vs only 1 run so he may have figured something out.

Haven’t seen any MLB stats for Carlos Martinez of the Giants so far this year. Any word on if he is throwing?

Ok, so is there a story to Molina missing time or are they really going with a time share?

Moises Gomez certainly has a live bat but I think he is going to have to work on his atricious bb/k ratio before he becomes a factor in Cardinals plans. Or the Rangers can pluck him away like Garcia and all the idiots can proclaim him a star for a hot start and then terrible 2nd half.

Some simple seasoned beans and cornbread for me on this last (Good) Friday of Lent. The Cards are providing all the sustenance I require tonight.

I was not a fan of the Pujols signing but he has held his own so far. Yepez getting the extra at bats in Memphis, not letting pitchers pitch around Gorman, and maybe securing an extra year of control. This is working out well so far.

I think Puggs may have gone down the slide, landed in a stein, and drank his way out.

Mlb trade rumors reported Cards discussing multi-year agreement with O’Neil but doesn’t list a source. That would be nice

I just got notification from the wife that in order to maintain sanity she had to take 2 1/2 yr old and 6th month old for a drive to get them to sleep. I will likely pick up a pizza or something when the end of the work day comes round about 5:30 so the missus doesn’t have to cook and minimize dishes.

Mike Shildt accused of racist undertones in exchange on field with San Francisco Giants coach.
    Article is on ESPN.
All I can say is read the article before commenting. In my opinion, the Giants coach is out to lunch. Hopefully someone can link the article.

Both little ones are coming along nicely. Blood simple is simply marvelous.

Love the Miller’s Crossing references. Great early Cohen Brothers flick. Now of you guys start quoting Barton Fink or Blood Simple I will really be impressed.

The Cabrera outing was not positive. 2 leadoff walks. Got out of it by a guy swinging at ball 4. Radio guys say his velocity has been down all spring. Anyone else hear that? But Wittgren with a 7 pitch inning was nice to see.

I’d guess Helsey or Whitley would get the opportunity in 9th if Gallegos unavailable before Hicks in the first month of season. You don’t want to give Hicks a reason to throw 105mph while he is still learning to dial it down and trust his stuff. Just my opinion though.

Maybe they will do the McGwire thing. Start Mark at 2nd base on the road vs lefty to hit in the first inning, then replace him with Edman as pinch runner/defensive substitution. I was never a big fan of this but there is a precedent.

So is he really slimmer? Haven’t seen him in uniform yet. Did anyone catch audio of the game to give their impression of his at bats?

I feel like Edman can improve his OBP. He is a smart, Stanford guy and I think he knows if he doesn’t he is out of a starting gig. The difference between a .300 OPB and .330 is only 3 times on base in 100 at bats. I feel like his high rate of doubles and his stolen base ability make up for the 3 times he doesn’t get on. Just my opinion.
