Love this deal. I don’t want to trade our new LHP + prospects for 2 years of Arenado. If you can get anything for fowler do so. Now that Martinez is gone and the OF logjam is a little clearer I am not so averse to resigning Ozuna. I love, love, love this deal!
Mlb.com mentions today that Ozuna has said his preferred destination is St Louis, and that it is likely down to STL and Rangers with Reds bowing out. If this happens, and that doesn’t excite me, I hope that it means we are getting him at a fair price, and preferably a short contract. Have there been any articles promising that with the winter of rest his throwing arm will be good as new? I need to delude myself before the inevitable news.
I don’t think I call 50% chance of Ozuna returning optimistic. When I hear that I grimace. Just take the pick, give him a good character reference, and thank him for his service.
Do card pay the fee on the potential incentives too? That would make sense. Otherwise contracts could be manipulated as a 1year 1mil deal with 9mil incentive for starting one game to save almost 2 mil. I really like this deal.
I would consider that package offered to be “underwater”. A bunch of “meh”s and Fowler’s terrible deal. I’d give up Martinez, ponce, gant, and one of Garcia, Williams, or Capel to anyone with Fowler just to clear the space, both financially and the 40 man

I won a lottery from Brian to get this game on disc. It is the most amazing game I’ve ever seen. Personally, I have not mentioned this, but I had a major medical scare just then. In 2011 summer all my major organs shut down, at my age of 31. I was told I was going to die. I was put in a nursing home, given 3 months to live. I was put on hispice from 3 rivers care here locally. I was just coming back to life when they made their amazing run in september. Due to my kidneys starting to function again I went from 243lbs to 167lbs in 3 weeks. I watched this amazing turnaround in bed, with a roommate who was 82 and died a year later. This run in 2011 means so much to me. I was still in the nursing home for the carpenter/Halladay showdown but I had just gone home for the series. Now I am married, and my wife is due Nov 21st. So these games in 2011 meant so much to me. Most,carpenter vs Halladay, then game 6 vs the Rangers.
Baseball is very streaky and momentum based. We had it in 2011. We beat a superior pitching staff in Philly like we owned them. Maybe it is just Washington’s turn. I’m happy getting to NLCS this year.
Puggs, I miss those days some, especially that hot IRS agent some almost 10 years ago. But I got what I truly need now, and she is a Cards fan. Although I am a tad bit irritated with her appreciation of Molina and Matt Adams. That actually is very common down here in southern Missouri (Matt Adams love). The new Mr Perkins is due Nov 21st and I can’t be happier. I do miss insight from Jerry Modene.
This thread is really disheartening. We are exactly at the apex of where we hoped to be at the start of the year. We control our destiny in the NLCS. I am usually positive in my posting and I generally support Mo and I am quite happy with the results this year. I didn’t know if we were capable of advancing this far, but we have, without sacrificing our future at the trading deadline. At this point it is a crapshoot.
I’d have done Bader for Wheeler. If anything to try to keep the guys’ arms in the bullpen from falling off. Maybe Wheeler could have been resigned with a “try before you buy”
I think you are referring to padres drafting Perdomo, not Peralta. Although Peralta thriving with the D-backs was unexpected after being released as a pitcher.
Carpenter may loop them over there but he seems to always have just enough to get the runner. His range and instincts are not great. He is extremely streaky. I thought just before his extension that we played it perfectly. But those extra years were a horrible idea I thought then and looks proven now. With the comment about his mental toughness…I hope the rest of the crew picks it up and he turns into the guy that can really pile it on that he has been in the past
I would do that Greinke deal in a heartbeat. I don’t think Reyes is going to pan out and if he does I doubt he’ll ever pitch past the 6th inning in games. I’d include 2 of Thomas, Arozonena, Garcia, Capel, or Williams.
I don’t have the numbers to back it up but my eyes told me Webb pitched well in games out of hand but tightened up in tough spots. Maybe go with a guy who pitched a lot in NYC. Or maybe front office wants to make voit trade look better.

This one could end up going until the sun comes up in sweet southern Missouri. The wife is snoring away while I am taking in the action. I fear I may brought bad karma by the first 2 laser beams to start the inning. Dickerson ties it 3-3 with Martinez still eyeing home plate in his tracks as that shot was gone before he had time to turn his head.

On the redbird side, Kirtly hit it on the nose both times with a deep double to show. Toerner 0-2 striking out looking bad and a hard liner pulled right to first baseman. Think misies walked both times. Ascano rbi double and a gem in the field at SS. 3-1 good guys in bottom 4
Hooks make Parsons throw a few extra pitches in the 4th but he is up to the challenge. 4ip, 5 hits, 0 walks, 69 pitches. Fastball now consistently at 89-90.
