MrperkinsParticipantParsons gives up 2 hits with one out before opening up his arsenal getting first pitch called strikes on off speed pitches before retiring both on soft contact. Radar gun more consistant at 92 on the fastball
MrperkinsParticipantParsons works around a one out double. Batters were not timing his pitches very well. 2 ground outs and a strike out. Velocity 92 to 95 if you trust the gun. He was pitching agressively. Carlson with a no doubter deep over center field wall to lead off Springfield
MrperkinsParticipantI get to see Parsons pitch tonight in Springfield with the wife. Hoping the rain stays away.
MrperkinsParticipantThink I read Urena not going to make this start. Ah yes. Urena to DL, Yamamota, who was acquired in Yelich deal penciled in to make is major League debut.
MrperkinsParticipantI think I remember a poster forecasting success for Cox saying he “liked Cox in the 2-hole” causing several off colour jokes.
MrperkinsParticipantWow.
MrperkinsParticipantIndeed. We used to nominate posts of the week here. That was befitting.
MrperkinsParticipantThe trivia question has me guessing Boris from Rocky and Bullwinkle
MrperkinsParticipantI’m quite fine with that scenario, Nigel. I’d love to see Gant draw more of a market with another consistent start to season than lose him for next to nothing due to him lacking an option. He was pretty much great last year for what we asked of him.
MrperkinsParticipantI like this. Minor league deal. Probably has opt out if he doesn’t head north. I remember being excited when Rick Wilkins a similar deal 20 years ago. He actually managed a .330 on base percentage last year in 250 at bats as his walk rate dramatically rose last year. He has won 2 gold gloves in his career. He’s not great any more but not horrible. A switch hitter. Really I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be a big upgrade over pena. I think he must be betting on the possibility of Molina not playing as many games. I wonder who the emergency catcher might be if we keep him as the only backup and he is used as a pinch hitter. I’m guessing Dejong. If I were Robinson or Munoz I would be begging to put on the tools of ignorance for an extra chance to make the roster.
MrperkinsParticipantLove this discussion. This is why I’ve read this site since 2002. I miss the old format that showed when posters joined. The analysis on Theo is exactly what I would have loved to give if I were more eloquent.
MrperkinsParticipantJim riggleman not returning to reds organization. I’d love to have him on the coaching staff and he has cardinals ties.
MrperkinsParticipantIt was painful to root for Kershaw and of course he let me down. Why can’t both teams lose?
MrperkinsParticipantSome have speculated Mozeliak as a possibility for the Mets open GM job. I’m sure that would please many around here.
MrperkinsParticipantI have doubts about that unless Shildt has some photographs of which we are unaware.
MrperkinsParticipantSierra hit .260 in minors, under .200 in mlb last year. All three pitchers had Era’s in upper 3’s in minors. Yes, in retrospect Yelich would have been ideal but you make the trade when it become available, not a year later with a do-over.
MrperkinsParticipantAnd he provided that .280/23 HR season at a very fair rate of 9mill. That is not a bad price for a supposedly down year. And if he leaves then you in theory have “his money” off the books and therefore available for someone else. Yes, Dewitt opened his precious pursestrings like so many deny ever being possible.
MrperkinsParticipantI’m still not that upset with the Ozuna deal. No he didn’t have an MVP season but he had a good second half and with free agency after next year I expect a solid campaign this year. None of the prospects we sent exactly set the world afire their first year in Florida and we cleared precious spots on our 40 man so San Diego can’t set up a buffet in front of our system for the Rule 5. Don’t we have the option to offer Ozuna the QO after the year? We can get back a good pick.
MrperkinsParticipantWow, just saw replay of Machado with a very dirty play at first base from last night. Ran to first inside the line all the way down and kicked/spiked Aguiar as he passed. Benches emptied. Replay and story with Yelich and Shaw comments on espn.com right now. I want nothing to do with this punk.
MrperkinsParticipantIf you don’t like Molina not running out ground balls you will hate watching Machado. At least Yadi has the excuse of saving his legs for catching. Machado is just plain lazy and doesn’t even try to explain it. There was a good article on this at mlb.com earlier this week. Combine that with his insistence of playing shortstop when his defence is among the worst at that position and he strikes me very much a me-first type player. I’d rather take the risk on Donaldson and keep Dejong at SS where he is above league average than plug Machado at SS and make deminish Dejong’s value by putting him at 3rd. I don’t want 2 guys on the team who won’t run out grounders or it may become 3 or 4 in a hurry. Bader is a shining example of always putting pressure on the defence by always running hard. He beat out a few routine grounders and forced some hurried throws as well.
MrperkinsParticipantI’m with stlcard25 on rotation
Martinez
Mikilos
Flaherty
Wacha
Reyes or bust
Let gant fill in when Reyes falls apart(and we know he will)
MrperkinsParticipantToo many walks his entire career. Yes, he can strike out the world. But I never want to put in a guy who I am afraid will walk the lead off hitter. I’m not saying our guys can do better.
MrperkinsParticipantI’ve been hoping for brewers Astros since the teams were announced. Go brewers.

MrperkinsParticipantLooks like a bad time to gamble on any Rockies pitchers, if there was one. I’m doubting the Baez numbers…maybe I am just afraid to see he is able on defence as well as bat? No way he I’d Arenedo good.
