If VEB thinks the Cardinals were good this year I’d hate to see if they were bad.
This FO is under no pressure whatsoever to do anything. They could no nothing at all, not add a a single player and still draw 3.2-3.3 million, sell a million hot dogs and an ocean of beer while they counted their money.
Mo is already moonwalking and putting out Mo speak to set the grounds for doing nothing big or even close to big.
They’ll be competitive until September next year and probably miss the playoffs again.
If you want to get a glimpse of the 2019 Cardinals just look at 2018, 2017 and 2016.
We lost 5 out of the last six games and looked like clowns against the Brewers and Cubs.
And, the sad thing is, Mo will call the season a success and 3.2 million people will go through the turn styles next year and Junior and he can smile all season long.
Rats:
Machado a Cardinal in 2019…you’re funny.
Cardsredsox:
The fans are not migrating from the ticket office. They’ll sell over three million next year. Why should they do anything in the off-season? They were in it until the next to last day this year. There is no reason for them to spend any money or trade any prospects. But, we’ll see.
BlackHills:
The incredible thing is that it could happen.
Brian:
Thanks again for deciding what I think. I do believe that wining the WS is the measure of success. I don’t see the 2017 Dodgers, the 2016 Indians the 2015 Mets, etc. remembering those years with too much fondness. I don’t remember a parade for the Cardinals in 2004 or 2013 so clearly the FO thought it was less than a successful season. I guess a team can be happy if they’re above five hundred. Not me. There is one successful team each year and yes 29 failures. Sorry but falling short is failing. They did win more games than last year if that is a kind of big improvement for some. People who are easy to please are nice to have around because they don’t expect much and failure doesn’t bother them. I guess I have higher expectations.
Stl Card 25:
Yes, I’d make that trade in a second but Houston FO might literally die laughing.

If you are wondering if the Cardinals are going to spend BIG in the Free Agent market…I can disabuse you of that notion. You can rest assured they will be frugal as always.
If you went Gant, Hudson and Kelly it could be very close.
I meant Shreve who could help this year. The rest are for the future.
gscottar:
Sorry, can’t see it.
Martinez is always one pitch away from the DL
Mikolas is good
Wacha is injury prone as we can see now
Flaherty and Weaver have come down to Earth.
Reyes could be injured in ST and be out for the year again. You can’t count on him for anything.
Hudson is a kid…who knows anything about himSo, is there potential? Sure. Is it reliable? No.
bicyclemike:
They completely gave up on 2018 and for good reason. This roster has no chance of doing anything. They only acquired one guy who might help this year. The rest are prospects so there eyes are on the future. Its’ time to start preparing for 2019. They know that. There is always a time to raise the white flag, to throw in the towel, to tap out or to just say I quit.
August 1, 2018 at 5:21 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #63589It IS as unlikely as it may seem. No chance in H–l in this Universe. They’ll trade for Starling Castro to play short, move Dejong to third, Carpenter to first and get rid of Martinez. And, Mo will say is excited about the 2019 Cardinals.
July 18, 2018 at 5:03 pm in reply to: What is right with the Cardinals and what can be done to keep it going?? #607641. The potential of the young arms is exciting.
2. Molina
3. Jose Martinez. We might be 12 games out without him.
4. Norris and Hicks
5. Carpenter
6. Maddux
7. Oquendo

What you say makes sense. I hope they do it.
Farrel or Girardi would be fools to come to St. Louis. The FO gives you crap for a roster and then expects you to win. No manager could take this bunch of garbage and make the playoffs. Now, if they are serious and trade or release about nine guys and spend BIG on free agents in the off-season then they’ve seen their past mistakes. I’ll wait and see.
Maybe this deadline will be interesting.
You can forget them being sellers. That would be an admission that they failed…they don’t do that. They’ll add a couple of slugs or do nothing like last year.
PadsFS:
You do remember that the Cubs won the WS in 2016. Trading those prospects paid off. They have an outside chance to win the WS this year. We have no chance. If we keep all of the beloved prospects for the next five years and never win the WS then what good are they. Sure, we have guys ready to play all of the positions but are they any good? This business is about winning the WS. The Cubs get that. The Cardinals don’t get that or have chosen to ignore it to count their money.
July 12, 2018 at 9:11 am in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #59825People are saying that Fowler will not be with the Cardinals in 2019. Who would take his contract?
TexasCard:
Did you actually think they would make an offer?
July 1, 2018 at 10:54 pm in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #58770And, there’s one thing he can do right.
The post earlier that told of another sell-out is the answer for anyone who thinks they “have” to do something or that anyone is in danger of losing their job. Why should they do anything. The money is still rolling in so why take on a large salary from one of these superstars at the deadline. Stay the course and count your money.
I have never seen a Cardinal team this bad defensively since I started following them in 1964. It’s hard to believe that a major league team can be this bad defensively. Martinez needs to go somewhere. The front office needs to make several moves. Will they? Time will tell.
No.
Who should they hire to replace Matheny?
Junior won’t be forced into doing anything. he’s not going to spend 20 million on a guy to save 5 to 10 million in revenue. He’s a businessman and he knows they’ll sell 3.2 like always. Any action at the deadline would surprise me.
The scary good bullpen strikes again.
