You are a dreamer but I like the way you think. Fingers crossed.
November 5, 2018 at 10:29 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #73972If they try to win with the offense they already have it will mean another third place finish and no playoffs. To become a quality team and this team is NOT one it will take major moves. If the FO is satisfied with mediocrity and failure then keep doing what they do every year.

That would not be a “good” off-season. That would be a start. They need much more than just one bat and a relief pitcher. They need to get serious in the off-season.

What does outrighted to the minors mean?
October 30, 2018 at 11:46 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #73523I read the VEB article…interesting but Harper? It’s not realistic. They’ll tweak and fight for a wild card until the end of September. That’s the off-season in a nutshell.
October 29, 2018 at 7:04 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #73503The free agents and where they will likely sign seems accurate to me. It just points out the type of player the FO will pursue while we have NO chance of signing anyone who is actually good. The bane of being a Cardinal fan…plenty of money but they won’t spend any of it.

Congratulations, you are a good judge of character. I am frequently an obnoxious jerk. My own kids can’t stand to be around me and who could blame them. My take on your post was that you ruled out everything they could do. Now, my guess is that Junior and the Juniorettes have already done the same thing. You mentioned several possibles then ruled them out for various reasons and I would agree with everything you said. As to your question do I feel confident that the team will make a big upgrade? No, absolutely not. I’m never confident that they will do anything worthwhile and they never do. My expectations are always fulfilled every single off-season. With a certain amount of false bravado and BS from Mo they will pass on many guys who could help. You know, too much money, too many years, can’t block all the hall of fame youngsters in Memphis, can’t make the team financially unstable, so many big contacts fail to produce the desired result and a dozen other lame excuses that they give every year. As to your get young proposal…makes sense which is why it won’t happen. Carpenter is an icon, Gyorko has a favorable contract, Fowler is going non where, J. Martinez is the second best hitter on the team, Wacha is damaged goods, Cecil sucks and is making too much, Mayers still has talent in their opinion, Garcia might be gone and maybe Pena. Don’t look for any substantive changes. The lineup is set for next year with third base being the only possible place for an addition and they have Wisdom for that. Like Junior said in his own veiled way, “We compete for the wild card every year until late September, why should we do anything.”

So, I guess your solution is to do nothing. Clever.

You are right they are stuck with paying Fowler anyway. But then you are asking Junior to add another 15 million for Donaldson. This Bill DeWitt Junior and he doesn’t throw money around needlessly. They may sign Donaldson but they won’t cut Fowler. Junior cares much more about the interest rate on his invesments than he does about WAR.
Yes, 27 trade for Scherzer by all means.

You do know that Junior is the principal owner…there is no way in this Universe that he will throw away 54 million dollars. The Front Office made that horrible signing and now they are stuck with it and so are the fans. Junior doesn’t care about making the team better…IF it cuts into his profits. Remember Mo saying it was his responsibility to keep the team financially sound. Gee, I wonder who told him to say that. No, Dexter will be on the roster in 2019 so get used to it. Hey, maybe he’ll hit .324 with 25 home runs and 90 runs batted in!! Stranger things have happened, though I cabn’t begin to remember when.

GScottar:
I like the way you think. I hope it all happens.
Brian:
Interesting prediction that they will move quickly and boldly in the trade market. I will await the outcome. You’re right, there is more than one way to build a winner. I just wish this Front
office could find one of those ways.I didn’t know they knew he was hurt. I honestly don’t know why they acquire some of they guys they do. If they were trying to make the team lousy they couldn’t do a better job than they already are.

I dob’t know if the GM for the Brewers is a genius but he is certainly smarter than Mo.
October 16, 2018 at 1:52 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #72542Jager:
Do you seriously believe That Junior would pay Harper or Machado what they will get or he would pay off the rest of Scherzer’s contract?
Onyxgem: Perfect point. The prospects are just that and it doesn’t take long for the league to catch up with them. Next year we’ll see just how many of them are any good.
Brian:
25 years doing the same thing doesn’t mean anything unless you can learn something. Considering he has to okay any trade or signing means he agreed to Fowler, Cecil Leake, Moss, Gregorsen, Holland and a whole list of slugs who were worthless. My point was: what he does or does not know about baseball doesn’t matter. He is a shrewd and successful businessman because if the suckers are buying your patent medicine no matter how worthless it may be…don’t change the formula.
One thing I like about Schildt is his quick hook. Matheny left guys in too long. Schildt doesn’t wait around for a disaster.
I don’t know what has happened that would lead anyone to think that “Big Happenings” are on the way.
With one of the dullest teams in baseball they draw over three million. There’s no need for Junior to do anything. If they literally did NOTHING and went to ST with the roster they have right now they’d still sell over three million tickets. The Cardinals are a business and they’re making money like crazy. Why mess with that. I wouldn’t. Why sign a thirty million dollar guy and cut into those profits. Just sign a couple of bullpen slugs and a second tier hitter that no one else wants and spend 2019 counting the profits. I don’t know what Junior knows about baseball but to be certain he knows how to run a business and make loads of money. Go, Junior, you’re the man.Listening to Junior talk about being aggressive is laughable. His idea of being aggressive would be to acquire David Freese to play third, move Carpenter to first then send Mo out to say how excited he is about the 2019 Cardinals.
“They’re going to be aggressive and they have resources.” Okay…let’s see it. No more BS talk…go get REAL talent.
I don’t expect them to do a single thing of value but I’ll be watching.
Remember Diz:
DeCartes said, ‘I think therefore I am’ not Plato. Your use of “Well Duh” might suggest why you lack an understanding of Western Philosophy.
October 2, 2018 at 3:48 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #71498This team was not good but not bad. They were mediocre, which is worse than bad in some ways. A bad team forgoes any optimism about the season…you just hold your nose and watch them lose. A mediocre team will go on a few runs and fans get needlessly excited but they inevitably come back to the mean and fall out of contention. A good team does not lose five out of six to the two teams in front of them in their own division in the last week. No, they need to do a whole bunch of things this winter IF they care about winning. One or two little tweaks is not enough. They have to go big IF they seek success.

Spoiler Alert!!!
2019 will be just like 2018.
