Agree with 2016.If FAs won
t come to SLouis because they could get benched because of poor play then we dont need them.Use homegrown talent as much as possible supplemented by a few fairly inexpensive FA tweaks if needed. No big dollar guyys bec ause they rarely perform up to the xlevel and length of the big contracts.June 14, 2018 at 4:28 pm #56469Agree with 2016.If FAs wont come to SLouis because they could get benched because of poor play then we dont need them.Use homegrown talent as much as possible supplemented by a few fairly inexpensive FA tweaks if needed. No big dollar guyys bec ause they rarely perform up to the xlevel and length of the big contracts.
FYI Bw52, It is kind of difficult to read your posts because something is causing the font to get all scrambled or maybe it is just my computer doing it.
June 14, 2018 at 5:09 pm #56472If I didn’t know Bw52 better, I’d say he was just messing with our minds, GScott.

You make a good point but our homegrown guys are not that good. There are some decent players with talent (Bader, O’neill…maybe and some promising pitchers. However, we don’t have any superstars in the making. There is no Trout or Harper down there. So, if you combine decent talent but not great with inexpensive free agents you get a mediocre team that can only make a last ditch miracle run for the play in game and nothing more. The front office philosophy makes any thought of a WS trophy only a remote possibility. I just wish they would be more aggressive.
June 14, 2018 at 9:15 pm #56489Also, I don’t understand putting Ozuna in the questionable/stupid move category.
I think it was just his slow start to the season the first two months, both offensively and defensively. There were times we were all shaking our heads at his defense after he won a gold glove last year, and having him, Folwer and Carpenter struggling the first two months of the season didn’t help.
Ultimately, there wasn’t a whole lot available on the FA market to get other than Leake, Cecil, Gergerson, Holland and Fowler that would have made an appreciable difference.
Ummm….So far those four have all made a negative impact on the Cardinals. If your argument is there weren’t many centerfielders available, the only other one was Austin Jackson, who wouldn’t have cost a draft pick, but broke his leg after the first month. In terms of the Cecil signing, Boone Logan was available, is a better LOOGY, and signed for one year at about $3.5 million. Holland was last man standing as far as relievers, so I guess I agree with you there…
I truly believe that Fowler will turn it around hitting-wise.
If he’s not going to play defense for the Cardinals like he did for the Cubs, then I think its irrelevant if he turns it around hitting wise. He is nothing but a bench bat given how lousy his defense has been.
I thought the Fowler signing was needed when it happened. They didn’t have any minor league OFs ready and they needed a bridge to that point in time. I didn’t like a 5 year deal, though. I thought anything longer than 4 years was a mistake and was really hoping for 3 years.
The best deal he received the previous offseason was 3 years/$33 million. The Cardinals gave him 5 years/$82.5 million. Seems to me, they overpaid by 2 years and roughly $50 million. The Cardinals are know for their strict adherence to player valuations, and they totally blew the market determined price out of the water…The Fowler signing only needed to happen because they got burned by plugging two players who were not much more than rookies into the starting lineup the previous year and got burned…You can have two rookies battle/platoon for one position, but you don’t let your outfield be 2/3 rookies…Then, they said nothing will do except a center fielder, when if they had been willing to sign a corner outfielder, there were many more opportunities. Tunnel vision caused the overpay for Fowler…
June 15, 2018 at 6:32 pm #56545I said it at the time, he was the worst FA signing is the history of this team. For the price and production up to that point? NO WAY!!!!!! That was the first sign this team was headed in the wrong direction. It burns my insides watching him get in the batters box wearing our uniform.Id cut bait and eat the loss. We draw 3+ million for 20 yrs in a row. Sometimes swallow your pride. I mean there’s like 100 guys who can hit 17 hrs with mediocre ba. There’s about 20-25 guys who have hit like 13-15 hrs already.I want him out n gone for good!!!NEVER wanted him!

ParticipantMattyMo, I agree 100%.
July 1, 2018 at 6:51 pm #58746Dexter Fowler is going on paternity leave and will miss the series in Arizona. Tyler O'Neill will take his place on the roster. #STLCards

July 1, 2018 at 7:45 pm #58748Well, there’s some positive news
July 1, 2018 at 10:54 pm #58770And, there’s one thing he can do right.
July 2, 2018 at 7:29 am #58776bccran
ParticipantWhen your organization President calls a player out publically on “Sports on a Sunday Morning” it displays a big problem. Surprised he didn’t also call out Wong and Pham.
July 2, 2018 at 7:41 am #58777Maybe Wong and Pham don’t have a “EFFORT” problem
July 2, 2018 at 8:27 am #58780bccran
ParticipantUnfortunately, all have NPS.
July 2, 2018 at 8:40 am #58783
stlcard25ParticipantWhat is NPS, bccran?
July 2, 2018 at 9:50 am #58801bccran
ParticipantNarcissistic Personality Syndrome. Not meant to be negative. Just describes people who are caught up in their own world. Self is the main point of reference and concern (either consciously or unconsciously). Often caused by insecurities. Produces certain symptoms.
July 2, 2018 at 11:52 am #58817Bccran is that just your opinion of an official doctor opinion..
July 2, 2018 at 12:20 pm #58822bccran
ParticipantPerhaps, Onyx, but talk to people in the organization, and look at the symptoms. Listen to the talk
during interviews. The operative words are “I”, “me”, and “my”. The desire for attention through hitting home runs. The drop off in production when the “me” isn’t being satisfied by where “I” want to bat in the lineup or where “I” want to play in the field. The lack of respect when contracts aren’t extended that meet “my” expectations.July 2, 2018 at 12:54 pm #5882714NyquisT
ParticipantThink of Ty Wigginton times 10.
Is this team going to keep him around for the rest of the season?
July 2, 2018 at 1:09 pm #58833got it, nothing more than your opinion…
July 2, 2018 at 1:47 pm #58845bccran
ParticipantI’m sorry, Onyx, but it’s a tad more than that. But I don’t expect you to trust or understand that. I wouldn’t either. Thanks
July 2, 2018 at 1:49 pm #58846If those guys were hitting we wouldn’t care what their personality was. It is all about production.
July 2, 2018 at 2:04 pm #58852July 2, 2018 at 2:05 pm #58854We’re stuck with him unless we can find another team stuck in a bad contract situation(s).Plus who knows if he’ll lift the NTC.
I’m sure their figuring out a way to finesse him to another team. Get him to a park that is offense heavy so the other team can see some value in him and at the same time take on a small amount of the contact. We’ll just have to face reality that this is our 2nd best option. I think we all know what the best option is but the team will wait until all hope is lost. Right now the ownership is likely 75% there.
Its either that or play him when he returns from maternity.
July 2, 2018 at 2:06 pm #58855keep telling yourself that bccan maybe you might even truly believe that garbage

Its would’ve been nice to get him some starts in the AZ series. They might give him one more chance at some PT when he returns for Hiatus.
