Sorry, I should have been more specific. I meant system wide. Admittedly, you can be overwhelmed for any player. Right now, the only player on the major league roster I wouldn’t trade is Winn. Minor leagues, Matthews, Davis, Weatherholt, and probably Crooks. Anyone else is fair game.
Not saying I want them traded, but I would prefer Walker or Gorman going to the AL if traded and return is good.
Herrera and Nootbaar are 2 of our highest ‘future value’ players and I would rather trade high. I’m not sure what Herrera’s position is other than a very poor throwing catcher/DH. I like Noot, but don’t love him. Not quite O’Neil’s injury history, but scary enough and not the power or fielder TO was.
The Golden dumb idea. I grew up across from a ball diamond. Many sandlot games we had WAY too few players and made up rules to fit the lineups. The major leagues isn’t that. WOW!
Pitchers
Sonny Gray – Trade I if possible, if they are really going the cheap route.
Erick Fedde – Keep at least until trade deadline.
Andre Palante – Keep
Ryan Helsley – Trade now. Can’t afford risk of injury or bad half year.
Matthew Liberatore – Keep, still hasn’t turned 25. Rushed to majors to quickly in my opinion.
Steven Matz – Trade for a Class A lottery type, even if throwing in cash. Can’t stay healthy.
Michael McGreevy – Keep
Miles Mikolas Trade with cash for a Class A lottery ticket type. Innings eater for someone.Catchers
Wilsson Contreras – Keep, unless a really good offer. I don’t believe Herrera can be a starter. Not sure they didn’t move him to 1st to see if he would be willing to agree to a trade.
Iván Herrera – Trade. Excellent bat and trade value is high, but DH is only other position. 55 steals given up only 4 caught, YIKES.
Pedro Pagés = BackupInfielders
Nolan Arenado – Trade for prospects if possible. Throw in cash to get better quality.
Nolan Gorman- What is his trade value. If still decent prospects I would trade, but only to AL.
Thomas Saggese – Keeper, part of the future. Hopefully a cheaper Donovan.
Brendan Donovan – Keeper unless a couple really good prospects coming back

Alec Burleson – I would trade him, though I know others wouldn’t.
Lars Nootbaar – I would trade. Still has a LOT of value, but too injury prone. Can’t let him become O’Neil where value drops.
Michael Siani – Keeper for now. Too good as a cheap 4th outfielder/defensive replacement. Now if he can figure out hitting.
Jordan Walker -Wouldn’t trade unless overwhelmed and then only to an AL team. Like Liberator, rushed to the majors, still a kid.I am 65, been a Cardinals fan for 60 years. Once a player is a Cardinal, I am a fan for life.
It seems there is a lot of we can’t trade player X, especially Lars and Ivan. I want them to do great, but they have more trade value than any other players on the roster other than possibly Winn i believe (53 / 32).
I did a comparison between Noot and Tyler O. on Baseball Reference and Noot is a slightly less injured, less power hitting player with a better OBP version of TO. I see him as a good but not great fielding 15/60/.260 player. I would trade him in a heartbeat.
Ivan can hit, no doubt. He can’t throw anybody out to save his life and has no other position to play Was his arm injured this year? Not that I ever heard. I would trade him in a heartbeat also. Sign someone like Jansen or yes, Carson Kelly for a year or 2 Better fielding, decent hitter and wait for Bernal or Crooks.
Is there anybody you flat out wouldn’t trade? My list right now, Matthews, Davis, Weatherholt, and a few other minor league pitchers and Winn. (Okay, if the Mariner’s offered my their entire starting rotation…). Other than that anybody is fair game as long as Mo isn’t the person deciding.
If they are really going with the youth movement, i really wish they would give Koperniak a shot this year. I’ve seen a lot of posters on other sites saying he’s a AAAA player. I keep wondering how you can say someone’s a AAAA player if they never get a shotin the show.
Also, MLTR had their picks for free agents. Only three mentions. Sorry, Juan Soto not to the Cards in any universe.

Stupid question time.
I know competitive balance picks can be traded. What do you think the traded player cost would be? Could it be a lower ranked player plus cash? Are there rules against including cash in this type of trade.
Would be nice to get back in the 2nd round.

BlackHillsCard: Amen to that. If you are a college AD, you generally get two shots at a coach of the schools major sport (basketball school or football school). More if your a smaller school and have your coaches poached by larger schools.
I would say Mo shouldn’t have gotten a third shot, but Schildt obviously didn’t bow down to the spreadsheet guys, so they fired a winning manager, dumb. If they let him fire Oli, your just going to get another Mo yes man.

But not very good seasoned leadership, average at best in my opinion. Acquisitions of Goldschmidt and Arenado were great, not sure of any others. Also, many you wish you could have back. (Still wondering what management person on the Rockies he has incriminating pictures of.)
I’m not sure of a single FA signing that was really good. I guess you count Holiday as excellent, but he was a resign, not from another team. First year of Jhonny Peralta was really good, then 1 avg. year and 2 years of yuck. Still hopeful on Contreras and Gray.
(And by the way, 64 and saw first game in 66. Lived through the dreadful 70’s and early 00’s.)

Every article I’ve read has Yamamoto looking for 8 years and 200 million and most thinking he will get it or close to it as he just turned 25.
