Espada is interesting, as Houston is analytics driven. Puerto Rican, which Yadi has already said would be a good thing.

Possible negatives, Astros bench coach starting in 2017, what did he know with the Bang on the Drum All Day scandal? Does he get along with Albert?

They need a #1 or 2 starter, moving 2/3/4 down a notch to 3/4/5. Or at least a 3 and move 3/4 to 4/5. Thor, Marcos Stroman, Robbie Ray, Hell, bring Max home.

If news reports are true, they had to ask MLB’s permission to have a news conference to fire him during the playoffs. Also, they fired him over the phone. Seems to me this is something bigger than Shildt wanting Albert gone.

I may be totally wrong, but Mo seems to be the the type of boss we have all probably had, one who thinks if it isn’t his idea, it’s a bad idea. In other words his *^%$# smells like roses. Not sure, but I think it was the Mets where supposedly the GM was sending down decisions to the dugout. Sometime, I hope one of these guys actually tries managing. I can’t imagine the players would respect them.

I would love to see someone from outside, a Francona or a Bochy. Unfortunately, I really believe Mozeliak will never bring in anyone who disagrees with any of his decisions, never bring in a LaRussa type.

Marcus Semien and Marcus Stroman. 5 years each around 225-240 total between the 2?

I wouldn’t mind 7 inning double headers, but only if they are like the 60’s. None of this day night crapola. Won’t happen as it gets in the way of revenue for the owners.

    Hate the DH.

I don’t like the shift and really think the whole launch angle stuff etc. is making the game nearly unwatchable. Can you imagine what coaches/analytic people would do with hit it where they ain’t guys like Ichiro and Carew? (Edit for clarification: Coaches would be trying to change them from a young age to lift they ball, etc.)

Also, pretty much no to everything else. Maybe balls and strikes for consistencies sake, cause a few of these guys are BEYOND bad.

Also, I think the we aren’t really concerned about this year stuff should have gotten him called on the carpet.

    Buy or sell?

As selling almost always mean vets, honestly, not really much to sell. Martinez or DeJong, not worth much, short of throwing in cash. Waino or Yadi? Fan revolt, unless they publically ask for a chance to win, (Padres?). Goldy, no way to move his contract. Arenado, not unless they know or thing he will opt out, and can you move that contract?

Buy? Don’t really see that either. Short of something crazy, who would you give up? Not Gorman, Liberatore, Herrera, Wynn or Walker. Thompson, Oviedo or Rondon maybe?

Mo has worked himself into a box that I am not sure he can get out of. Short of being within 4-5 games at the trading deadline, what is the point of giving up anyone for a Scherzer, etc?

Scherzer or Stroman, cool. Lynn won’t happen, because that would be Mo admitting he made a mistake in letting him go. Mo is like every corporate boss and won’t admit a mistake like that. Every one of his ideas is golden, if he didn’t think of it, it’s trash. Until he needs it of course, then it was his idea. Albert, Maddux, Schildt, even powerless Girsch will be scapegoats. Can only hope BD3 wakes up at some point.

It seems to me you were able to make a trade for a player with the option of talking to the player on contract issues before making a trade. Is this still possible. Just think of Story from Colorado. DeJong, Oveido & a couple lottery ticket types, if you can sign him.

Looking at sellers as of today…

    Orioles
Cedric Mullins – L/L – Undoubtedly in future plans. Would cost a lot.
Trey Mancini – R/R – Wish he hit lefty.
Josh Means – Lefty – Cost prohibitive prospect-wise?

    Twins
    Max Kepler – L/L – $15 mil over next 2 years, 10 mil or 1 buyout in 24.
Jose Berrios – Name keeps popping up on MLB Trade Rumors, though I can’t figure why.

    Tigers
Robbie Glassman – S/L – Decent hitter, bad fielder.

    Rangers
    Joey Gallo – L/R
    Adolis Garcia – R/R – Oh, wait…..
Kyle Gibson – Innings eater his entire career.

    Marlins
Starling Marte – R/R – A rental, but still a very good hitter & fielder.
Adam Duval – R/R – Doesn’t move the needle for me.

    Pirates
Adam Frazier – L/R – In division, lots of teams asking. But man….

    Rockies
    German Marquez (I can dream)
    Charlie Blackmon – L/L – Expensive – RBI’s still very good

    Diamondbacks

David Peralta – L/L – Nice fit, 7.5 mill next year

If the Cards keep playing as craptastic as they have been lately, do they sell at the deadline, and who could the sell that would bring value back?

Can we give the trade a few years before we call it a huge mistake. I do worry Mo is skittish because of the trade, but we have no proof RA is going to be a great player. He may be, or he may have had the best month he will ever have. He may be Willie Mays or he may be Dusty Rhodes. (Yes, I am old.)

Anyone think it was $50 million and they had to redo the players because the Player Union or MLB did want to set something that high? I just find it odd how many names changed, and that (to me) it appears to be lighter.

Would you give up Gorman & either Liberatore or Thompson for Ramirez from Cleveland? 3 years on contract at a very reasonable rate, and wouldn’t be blocking anyone.

First a large thank you for this forum. I read Cards Talk, but feel in need a shower after reading all of the insults, etc.

What do you all think the odds are that the Cardinals actually do something to really improve the team from last year, (not Yadi & Waino and the status quo)?

Apologies if already brought up, but if Yadi gets 2 years, they really need to front load the contract, leaving more for 2021.
