Some of Mo’s mistakes
Who would you rather have, a 28 year old already set for free agency where the first 2-2.5 years were learning on the big league level? Or a 30 year old ready to explore FA after actually learning the game hitting / pitching in the minors?
Liberatore, just turned 25, looking like he’s finally hitting his stride.
Walker, not quite 23, good early, then a victim of we will change your swing in the majors. WTH? Leave him in the minors and do it there. Would probably come up last year or this year ready to go. And by the way, would you prefer the Walker that came up or the one they keep trying to switch his wing.
Gorman, just turned 25, see Walker. Let them learn where they are supposed to learn, not in the majors.
Probably a stupid question, but if he falls to 5, do the Cardinals feel “almost” obligated to pick Holiday?

I have a friend who has been sick for almost 2 weeks with respiratory+ issues they can’t quite figure. Sick as a dog.
And I’m glad it comes from JJ, the Cards organization is notorious for being full of $)^%$ when it come to IL stiff.
Question for anyone with deeper knowledge of analytics. How do you compare exit velocity of high school / college players to pros when the former are using aluminum bats. (Or aluminium for our British viewers.)
By the way, I do think Herrera has the bat, but does he have a position other than DH? (Unless his caught stealing rate all of a sudden soars.)

I liked your breakdowns above, but one point on Herrera. Why do you see him as athletic enough to play a corner outfield spot? I think he would have a decent enough arm for left, but if his speed is actually a 30 grade, VS III is gonna run his legs off covering all of CF and most of a corner.

I still want to know if he just got old, or did the Cards 1 size fits all batting mentality change the way he batted. I would have preferred the 47 double machine over swinging for the fences Matt every day and twice on Sundays.

For the kid’s sake, (okay, I’m 65, so he is a kid to me), I wish the would either trade or release Matt Koperniak. I know he wasn’t a highly ranked player, but all he has done has been better than anyone else we have in the minors. I can’t buy the he’s a AAAA player when they never give him a chance. Over 1000 OPS this spring, career .834 OPS in the minors and not a bad fielder.
Let’s keep Siani, great fielder and makes Mario Mendoza look like 1941 Ted Williams.

Worst case scenario, hanging around on the periphery of the last wild card spot at the trade deadline. Mo doesn’t want his last season to be a bomb and may do something stupid. Even if it is only making no moves.

I am a Cardinal fan for almost 60 years. I don’t closely follow other teams, so serious question.
Has there ever been a team whose management more needs to SHUT UP than the present day Cardinals?
Bill DeWitt – 6-7 years ago, we can push the luxury tax if we need to for the right player. Sorry, they were fools to believe Stanton wanted to come here and Heyward WAS HERE and didn’t want to be here. I DO believe Price wanted to be here and would have had a much better career here. A lefty in Fenway for a few dollars more?
John Mozeliak – A, B & C are trading Nolan Arenado. (Amongst many others.)
Oli Marmol – Public shots at Wilsson, TO, Matthew Liberatore. Am I missing any others?

Trading Arenado is priority 1, 2 & 3.. Let’s make sure we get nothing for him.
I know, he’s answering questions. But sheesh, misdirect, answer without saying anything, mislead, obfuscate, hell, flat out lie…
According to Baseball Trade Values, the highest valued Cardinals are Nootbaar and Herrera. I would be more than willing to see both traded because of that value, (ya gotta give to get). Noot because of value/injuries and Herrera because of value/and he’s a catcher that can’t throw and can’t play any other position than DH.
Keep pretty much anybody under 25, (not counting Herrera), anyone else is fair game.
Liberator, Walker, Winn and Gorman were rushed thru the system. So far, Winn appears to be a hit, others have been up and down, but are still young. I would have preferred they work there way up. Especially Liberator, being a pithcer, but Mo had to prove he didn’t get fleeced in the Arozarena trade.
I may be beating a dead horse, but this team needs to get younger and more athletic. A full tear down would have been better. In my opinion, Mo’s ego can’t have his last year be a bottom of the barrel finish. Like always, play to be just good enough to not totally, well, you know…
Any trade where they can pick up Competitive Value A or B picks is a bonus.
