One of the ways to get to know the minor leaguers better is to Google them and add “interview video”.
For instance, Google “Jimmy Crooks interview video”. Up will come multiple interviews he has done for various media outlets in the minor league city. I do this for most of our top prospects. Some of the answers to interview questions are interesting as well as getting to see what the players are really like.

I hope BW is able to do some of these interviews while in Florida and post them for TCN subscribers.

Are we talking 5 players from the MLB roster to not trade? Because I don’t have 5…I’d say Winn, Walker, McGreevy (although he’s not an absolute) and that’s about it. If you forced me to pick two more, I’d say Herrera and Gorman, because I think they have more value to us than other teams.

If you include minor leaguers, I’d throw in Mathews, Hence (because I don’t want to sell low) and Wetherholt ahead of McGreevy.

For the right price, none of them are untouchable.

If I were doing the trading I would even dangle Winn out there to see if anyone else thinks as highly of him as we do.

From the MLB roster the only three I can come up with would be Donovan, Winn, and Walker. Everyone else is up for grabs.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I meant system wide. Admittedly, you can be overwhelmed for any player. Right now, the only player on the major league roster I wouldn’t trade is Winn. Minor leagues, Matthews, Davis, Weatherholt, and probably Crooks. Anyone else is fair game.

Not saying I want them traded, but I would prefer Walker or Gorman going to the AL if traded and return is good.

Herrera and Nootbaar are 2 of our highest ‘future value’ players and I would rather trade high. I’m not sure what Herrera’s position is other than a very poor throwing catcher/DH. I like Noot, but don’t love him. Not quite O’Neil’s injury history, but scary enough and not the power or fielder TO was.

The only one I wouldn’t trade is Mathews. It would be real hard to get me to trade Winn, especially when you consider what we’ve got to replace him at short.

With the NL now having the DH it allows for a guy like Walker to hang around. IMO, the Cardinals have too many defensive liabilities on the roster and they can’t ALL be the DH.

Again, the OF is just weak offensively AND defensively. It takes a really special POBO to pull that off.

It’s not just the OF though. Look at Gorman, who probably can’t defend any position well at the ML level, and the catcher situation with Contreras and Herrera, neither of whom can play the position, apparently. But yeah, the OF is most glaring. I think it comes from obsessing over somebody launching minor league mistakes into the parking lot and promptly forgetting about everything else relating to baseball. They get up to ML and you are going crazy trying to figure out how to get some value without getting killed by the holes in their game. You end up with a Chinese fire drill day in, day out.

A special POBO is right. How do you end up with no center fielder? How do you end up with one corner outfielder and he is not reliable health wise? No starting ML caliber catcher? Probably no 3rd baseman? 1st base hoping to be filled by whoever emerges from the dumping ground for flawed players who can’t do anything else well enough. Would it be even possible to make a bigger mess of the roster?

Bling that’s why we need to RE-SET the roster. You called it the other day in another thread concerning how positions should be filled. But they leave the guy responsible in place for another year in order to not soil his legacy by replacing him now.

I hope that is what the reset is as far as the ML roster goes, KCB. As you say, and as Brian has said, Mo is still in charge. And as Brian sort of hinted at, Mo has a conflict of interest. He wants his last year to not suck, and he won’t be around after that last year to take heat for whatever that looks like. So he has an incentive to prioritize a good 2025 over longer term considerations. I don’t know what will happen.

I agree with KCB, How can you do RESET and keep the guy who SET it in the first place.

I guess we aren’t getting Juan Soto. The days of waiting around to find out we lost the bidding on high priced free agents is over. That’s ok with me. Now get on with building the system that has a chance to make us proud of our team again. Im getting disgruntled with the Mo hyperbole that we can compete this year. They need to lock this guy in his office with a muzzle and handcuffs until his contract expires. Othetwise we risk him causing the postponement of it (rebuild) another year.

We’ve been rebuilding since Albert went to Anaheim. Mo has to ask to borrow the car keys now 😉

This season already is like when you open your refrigerator and can tell something has been in there too long.

Bill should have checked the expiration date on those NTC’s.

Ditto KCB. The two year rebuild is going to turn into a five year rebuild thanks to Mo refusing to let go of the rope.

Yep, I see that narrative building here. If we fast forward, is Mo Blooms fall guy?

Considering that we have not been good at building a good team when we were supposedly trying to why do we now think it is a good idea to try to build a good team and reset at the same time? So now all of a sudden we are great mutli-taskers?

My sons an idiot. He’s buying the Mo Schhmo. Thinks we can win the division if we keep Helsley. I thought I raised him better than that.

If they had any interest in winning the division they probably could make a run at it with a few competent signings and spending a little $. The Brewers should be a little weaker with Adames leaving

I’m trying to wrap my mind around what’s going on here. Are we saying that winning is no longer the most important thing? (Sorry Vince!) It seems management is trying to prepare us for poor performance, making excuses before the first game is played. Don’t get your hopes up, we’re rebuilding. Is that how we will instill pride in our players? With low expectations? Is that why we extended a mediocre manager, to fulfill those expectations? I subscribe to Bling’s refrigerator theory. Something doesn’t smell right.

The way I read it is ownership is saying they neglected player development/coaching and infrastructure the past 5-7 years and are going to cut the Major league team budget by 40-60 million dollars and throw it into player development coaches/maybe scouting and facilities.

Are they really going to spend $40-60 million on player development? and also how long are they going to do this for?

Not to mention no one seems to have taken the fall for their complete failure to address this the last 5-7 years…maybe Girsch did, but they golden parachuted him to like the marketing department…..good luck selling tickets when your 20 games under at the end of May Girsch
