Mo clearly was for quantity over quality. Relying on the Cardinal’s past history of uncovering hidden gems. No place for them to hide now days with the tech that ha emerged in scouting.

I have asked this before, as have others. Why so adamant, “Don’t trade Donny” and variations (if you have answered, I have missed it.) He is probably our best trade chip. Ya gotta give to get. Who would you be willing to trade? I believe I have stated this before, but I would be willing to trade ANYONE on the Major League roster. Need to get more athletic with power potential bats and power arms please.

You have posted this before. Just wondering why you are so adamant?
Seems to me you have to give to get. He is our best ML trade piece, (maybe Winn). By the time this team is ready to contend again, he will be 30 and a FA.
Is it just me? I’m not very enthused by any of the 4 mentioned, maybe Kilen, but is he more than a Donovan clone?
Cijnje – Is he really more than a gimmick?
Montes – Big time power, but not a great hit tool, K’s a lot and slower than molasses and fielding is a major issue.
Whisenhunt – Can you survie on a plus-plus changeup and not much else.
Kilen – First rounder, 60 hit tool, still young, so maybe?
From the M’s I would prefer Sloan and Arroyo, (one ranledslightly lower and one slightly higher).
Not really seeing any pitchers for SF. I just can’t see taking Whisenhunt as the best of a bad lot of minor league pichers. (And yes, I know he made appearances in the bigs this year.) I suppose Kilen and either Dakota Jordan or Bo Davidson as an OF.
My guess is this year’s AA standouts will speed through AAA and come up to fill holes as the season wears on.

I really hope not. This is a big reason we are where we are. Liberator was rushed to to cover Mo’s keister for Arozerena going on a tear for the Rays after the trade. (FA right handed hitting outfielder with power anyone, lol). Gorman and Walker, both pushed through the system, when they would have been MUCH better off learning to hit in the minors. Heck, Walker is less than a year older than JJ.
Please don’t rush the process. Next year is a loss already. (Okay, maybe Bill opens the wallet and signs Schwarber, Bellinger, Cease and Valdez, lol.) The next year is almost certainly a lockout of some duration. Let the process work.
The only way I see Nolan A. traded is for Chaim to sit down with him and tell him that BIG $ contract or not, he is a starter only if he plays up to it. If not, he will be a part time player, DH, 1b, PH making a lot of money.
Hopefully he will then extend his market of teams.
Of course the Cardinals NOT playing the contract, (see Dex, Paulie D. etc.) may not be a starter with ownership. If a guy stinks it up, play someone better, no matter the contract.
As I remember the 80’s, Augie LOVED the Cards. AB III loved soccer and didn’t give a rat’s fanny about the Cards. I really worry we are looking at the same with BD III.

Haven’t been a huge Spencer Jones fan, despite his prospect ranking. He struck out over 200 at AA last year. This year though, K’s down and power, BA, SLG WAY up even at AAA. Donnie for him and a their 2nd/3rd pitching prospect and maybe a lottery ticket type, (Francisco Vilorio 18 year old OF out of the DR.)?
Sorry if I come off a a pessimist, but I see this as at LEAST 27 before this is fixed. To me, Donny and Burly great as your 4th 5th best offensive player. Not as top of the roster pieces.

I agree. I would be willing to trade just about anyone on the major league roster. It seems to me to a lot of posters, have Donavan/Burleson are the best position players we have. Unfortunately, to me, the are AT BEST options 3, 4 or 5 on a good team or 4, 5 or 6 on a great team.
We are desperate for an influx of talent on the offensive side. Especially a power bat. I see hope on the pitching front and don’t mind keeping Gray as a mentor to the young guns as they come up

Also a question, since it doesn’t include $ signs, is Mo the worst GM of all time selecting who to keep or trade from the minor leagues? Seems to me we have made a few bad trades of minor leaguers over the last few years. (A few being A LOT!)
As to the original question:
Will Ollie be retained? Probably yes, but hasn’t shown a reason why.
Will Flores continue the draft position. Not without a better onderstanding of our philosophy. This year seemed to be a break from the HIGH FLOOR, LOW CEILING of past drafts. (Bloom?)
What further player development changes will occur? Hopefully a lot.
Will we become more aggresive in international markets I hope so. Not a fan of the spread the wealth over 20 guys instead of reaching for the moon on 2 or 3.
Will we go after high dollar free agents. Doubtful…
Had a high school friend drafted in 76. Threw low to mid 90’s +. Injured arm in minors. Is 91-93 really good for a 16 year old, (great arm)?
Sorry, get most of my info on the internet. (Cable channel for Cards game stinks, to be polite. Too much pixelation to watch.) Just curious who exactly is running things above Marmol. Still read complaints about/see the occasional head scratching decisions, but is someone else reading the spreadsheets, or do you think Marmol has a bit of Schildt coming out in his personality? Doing his own thing to save a chance at being here next year.

Who would you rather have, a 28 year old already set for free agency where the first 2-2.5 years were learning on the big league level? Or a 30 year old ready to explore FA after actually learning the game hitting / pitching in the minors?
Liberatore, just turned 25, looking like he’s finally hitting his stride.
Walker, not quite 23, good early, then a victim of we will change your swing in the majors. WTH? Leave him in the minors and do it there. Would probably come up last year or this year ready to go. And by the way, would you prefer the Walker that came up or the one they keep trying to switch his wing.
Gorman, just turned 25, see Walker. Let them learn where they are supposed to learn, not in the majors.
