Surely to high heaven this will never be implemented???

Sometimes I wonder if MLB is going mutate into a complete joke.

I read about that yesterday. Manfred really needs to have his head examined.

He’s obviously entirely delusional and should immediately be subjected by a court of law to an observational term of involuntary commitment before he does further irrepairable harm to the game or himself. The poor man needs help.

Why not? It ranks right up there on the idiocy meter with the phantom runner on second base.

Yea at first i thought this was a joke but its not. Baseball seriously needs a new commissioner.

Manfred said his idea was “generating buzz”. All reactions I’ve seen are negative, for good reason. Too bad he isn’t using all his creativity to fix the huge ongoing problems including TV contracts, revenue disparity, bad stadium situations, etc…

This has got to be one of the dumbest ideas i have ever seen

Yeah Manfred is not exactly a baseball purist…..too bad we couldn’t impeach him. This numbskull of an idea wouldn’t benefit our boys anyway, as we don’t have a “best hitter”…….we’re loaded to the gills with mediocre hitters though. Maybe for our Cards team only they’d refer to it as a “Copper AtBat Rule”.

Goofball idea. Let’s make changes to improve the game without changing its structure. Pitch clock was a good idea, ghost runner was not. I’d like to know who these owners are that in favor of such a bad idea. Probably the higher payroll clubs…?

Or, perhaps MLB could make pitchers pitch underhanded once a game to a team’s worst hitter!

If the ghost runner flies,so can a ghost batter, or whatever. Its been downhill since they lowered the mound. Put a keg of beer behind second base and quit pretending its still baseball.

I’m okay with it as long as they term it the Dingbat Rule.

    Agree Brian!

    1. The Rays & A’s stadium issues are still plagued by issues and risk falling apart.
    2. TV situation needs to be resolved. I see the current situation as a “stop gap”.
    3. Revenue disparity needs to be addressed. Playing field is getting severely slanted to the big market teams.
    4. MLB expansion becomes difficult if the revenue gap is not addressed. Otherwise, they will end up creating two new small market teams. How does that benefit baseball?

1964cards – I agree with every one of your points.

The Golden dumb idea. I grew up across from a ball diamond. Many sandlot games we had WAY too few players and made up rules to fit the lineups. The major leagues isn’t that. WOW!

I saw this as well and thought the same thing as you guys – trying to come up with a gimmick when there are real issues to address is insanity. It seems leadership in most everything these days has become more and more immature.

This would be akin to football saying, “for one key play each game the offense can choose to allow the defense to use only 8 guys”. Or basketball to allow one player at a key moment an open shot behind the three point line that counts as four points.

It takes away the competitiveness and makes it more of a novelty act.

The revenue disparity is the biggest issue to be addressed. I hope we get some adults in the room to really think and work on the real concerns of the industry rather than think up fairyland stunts.

Maybe Manfred should get the Savannah Bananas to test the idea first.
