Which is why the players’ union didn’t want to add too many wild card teams. If a front office knows they can get in the playoffs with 82 wins why spend more?

I don’t blame them, though I hate it more for giving Mozeliak cover of saying “We made the playoffs” and so many think that is a great point.

Cards 83/84 wins. Brewers win the division, Cubs better than expected. (And yes I have bile in my mouth typing that.) Thankfully the Reds and Pirates are tanking. Maybe a wild card. I hope.

I’m sorry, Matz is a #3 starter if he repeats last year, much worse in previous years, (plus Mo overpaid for a free agent, AGAIN). The 3 RP / Swing starters are nobodies and Dickerson is meh… I hope Albert does well as the RH DH. I have been a Cardinal fan since my 1st game 65/66. I am over 60 and really want them to win. I just don’t think they have done anything to REALLY improve themselves.

I hate the whole make the Wild Card and pray for lightning in a bottle business model. It just seems they are doing the 3 Amigos farewell tour to make as much $ as possible. I have seen posts here and on other sites about fans making their voices heard by not buying tickets. This will not work, unless they are willing to wait years. Too many tickets bought by corporations to be given away as freebies. Empty seats don’t matter if the seat is already paid for.

Damn, I don’t remember going into a season as pessimistic. I really hope I am wrong.

I read that and all I can think of is Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. Thinks he’s about to become a made man and instead, boom.

Though I hate to say it, the Scrubs are going to be better than expected. Much better off season.

Michael Conforto anyone? Gives OF 4 legitimate players, so all can have days ‘off’ as DH. Lefty bat. Would cost a draft pick though.

I think DeWitt believes winning would be nice, but being just competitive enough to make as much $ as possible is much more important than winning. If player acquisition cuts into the profit margin it ain’t happening. Remember, Dewitt claimed baseball in not a very profitable business.

I really wish someone in the media would ask him why he isn’t looking to sell if it isn’t profitable. Per Forbes, they came in at #7 last year with a Team Value $2.245B Calculated as of March 2021. Seems to be a nice amount to retire on.

I guess I am tired of all the bologna that comes out of his and Mo’s mouths. DeWitt from a few years ago: We can push the luxury tax level for the right player. Mo and his we have dry powder…

As they be competitive mantra worked last year, they think the Cards are the 17 game winning streak team, when they are probably much closer to the team that played the first 120 games. I really hope I am wrong, but in my opinion, this off season has been BAD.

Maybe Mo can work some trade magic. He seems to be better at that than signing people.

    Twins To Sign Carlos Correa

Reply To: Remaining 2022 Free Agents

In a stunning move, the Twins have agreed to sign the market’s top free agent, shortstop Carlos Correa, reports Mark Berman of Houston’s FOX 26 (Twitter link). Rather than the massive long-term deal that Correa has been seeking, he’ll instead sign a three-year, $105.3MM contract with opt-out clauses after the contract’s first and second seasons

    Remaining FA’s
Carlos Correa – SS – Would lift overall grade to A range. A man can dream.
Trevor Story – SS – Would still be an upgrade and maybe to C+.
Nick Castellanos – DH – Wish he was a lefty.
Jorge Soler – DH – See above.
Kenley Jansen – RP – Still waiting on their high leverage reliever.
Michael Conforto – OF – Lefty bat, coming off 1st bad year.
Michael Pineda – SP – Back of the rotation insurance.

Corey Dickerson – C- Lets face it, he would have been behind at least 7-8 other left handed free agent bats.

Leaves overall off season grade at C-.

I wish Soler or Castellanos had been left handed. Though they almost certainly would have cost too much also.

I’m not saying a 1910 ball, but get rid of the juiced ball. You say it is an entertainment product, but it isn’t entertaining.

Also, you didn’t come up with an idea to save it, lol.

Hope it works out. Not a huge fan though. He is a #4 starter, which means the present 4/5 drop down a notch. It does nothing for 1-3, which is what they really need. When Waino retires, he moves up to #3, which he isn’t on a playoff team. I hope Mo has some further moves up his sleeve.

Just wondering how Mo looks at analytics. He signed Carp to an extension way too soon. He had a great half year, but the other half wasn’t very good. Analytics say don’t play him the last couple years. Shildt keeps playing him too much. Who does Mo blame, Shildt for going against the analytics, or himself for giving him the extension? Contracts are gonna play. Traded Fowler, basically paying his entire salary. Luckily was able to trade/(dump) Leake. How often can he blame others for his bad signings?

Oli will eventually be a scapegoat. Whether before or after Girsch is the question Eventually BDW will wake up and have to look at Mo. Though I don’t know with their “Make the wild card an catch lightning in a bottle” philosophy, all you have to be is in the top 1/3 of the league.

Espada is interesting, as Houston is analytics driven. Puerto Rican, which Yadi has already said would be a good thing.

Possible negatives, Astros bench coach starting in 2017, what did he know with the Bang on the Drum All Day scandal? Does he get along with Albert?
