Something easy to miss, especially amidst Gorman’s homerun barrage. But Memphis batted Kramer Robertson at leadoff the last two nights. Friday night, he went 0-0 with 4 walks and one HBP. Last night, he went 2-3 with two singles and a walk. He raised his OBP by 40 points in two nights.
Given the Cardinals don’t have a leadoff hitter who can get on base, it would seem to be in their interest to have Memphis bat Robertson at leadoff the rest of the year.
An OPS of .700+ is just fine for Edman. He’s not expected to have a high slugging percentage. He’s hitting .272 to Bader’s .219. Poor example for you to bring up.
No, Edman’s not expected to have a high slugging percentage, but he is expected to have a high OBP. It was .317 last year, and .325 this year. Bader’s was .336 last year. And while it is only .301 this year, it only takes a few hits to surpass Edman again this year.
As for poor examples to bring up, referring to batting average rather than OBP is rather silly.
But he hasn’t underperformed in 2019, 2020, and 2021 like Bader.

@bccran – Bader has 83 plate appearances this year. His OPS still fluctuates 30 points with every hit. He is not the problem. Do you know what it takes to raise his OBP to the lofty range of Goldy, Arenado & Yadi? One hit.
When we traded for Goldschmidt, I am sure the team was expecting at least a .340-.360 OBP and >.850 OPS. They are not getting it.
And Edman went down to a .712 OPS today, too, before his last hit.
I haven’t been a diehard follower of our farm system for that long, but yes, it is disconcerting to see how bad our farm system is. With all of the teams, they can go up by six runs in the top half of an inning, and you can be sure they will give it back in the bottom half. Or go up by five runs in the first and wind up losing by five.
Tyler Webb is like Brett Cecil. You can’t bring him into high leverage situations. And this year, you can’t bring him into any situtations.
As for trading DeJong – I would keep him as a backup. If you look at the Dodgers – they want versatility and depth. DeJong provided both. DeJong is only making $4 million this year. What happens if Arenado or Goldschmidt gets hurt?
Back to the Bader bashing. OK – his .712 OPS is the same as Goldschmidt’s .712.
One of those players, we traded a pitcher, a catcher, a 2B and a draft pick for, and are paying him $26 million per year. Who is underperforming?
OBP’s through today:
Arenado – .320
Molina – .314
O’Niell – .313

Going into today’s game, Carpenter needed 537 more plate appearances in only 104 games.
I think your math is a little off. Carpenter needed 1100 plate appearances across last year and this year, or 550 each year. Last year, the MLB season was 60 games instead of the normal 162. So 60/162*550 = 204 plate appearances needed. He had 169, so he was short 35 plate appearances.
So, to start this year, he needed 585. He has 107, that leaves him needing 478.
Rat, .275/25/90 is exactly what I expect from Goldy.
So, you expected him to have an OPS lower than TON, Yadi, Sosa, Edman and Bader?
I certainly did not. Not this early in his contract.
Is it too extreme to think about Sosa at SS and DeJong in the OF some day?
Has DeJong ever played the outfield?
DeJong is “only” making $4 million this year. It’s not like he can’t be transitioned into the super utility (infielder) role if Edman and Sosa are better options at 2B and SS.
For next season we should be looking at Flaherty-Hudson and three new internal faces. That’s my hunch.
Hopefully, one will be somebody like Scherzer. We need a front-line rotation piece.

For the season, he is still below DeJong in both OBP and SLG.
I’m curious as to who will be starting at 2B and SS for Memphis on Monday night. Evan Mendoza looks like the best option for 2B. But who will they put at SS?
