Time for a big win.
May 23, 2021 at 9:42 pm #162184WP off Contrera’s wrist sends Goldy to 3rd.
Arenado sacs him home 2-1.
Molina walks, lifted for PR Kninzer.
Bader faces 2-2 pitch: foul, K’s looking.
Williams 0-2: foul, foul, inside, low, 2-2. K’s swinging. Hate listening to opposing fans cheering.May 23, 2021 at 9:50 pm #162185Cards just are not any good. .500 at best team currently made up. The pen has three good pitchers and then trash and the offense is a joke. Losing this serious was a joke the Cubs are a joke but guess cards are to.
May 23, 2021 at 9:50 pm #162186Overmatched. Completely overmatched at the big league level. They need to find some bench players that know what the are doing at the plate. That was a very tough lose.

ParticipantCardinals didn’t deserve to win tonight. Let’s the scrubs come in our house and take 2. If not for some effort last night, I’d be calling for them to all retire and take the Midwestern walk of disgrace but they won one, didn’t try to win one, and really sucked offensively in the other one so because of the one they get lucky this time.
May 23, 2021 at 9:54 pm #162188How does an organization have zero outfielders that can hit? Carlson shows signs of being able too, the rest are just not big leader hitters. This team is so offensively challenged it is scary.

ParticipantWhy was Harrison Bader batting 5th in the lineup against a right handed pitcher?
May 23, 2021 at 10:40 pm #162191Have you seen our bench? haha!
May 23, 2021 at 11:28 pm #162192Would it have been smart to tell Edman to get picked off in the 9th? He starts the 10th on 2nd base and Goldschmidt, Arenado, Molina up.
With how Goldy has not been producing, it makes sense. I like your line of thinking, Cards667.
When Goldschmidt got 2 strikes is when I thought Edman should have just kept getting a lead bigger and bigger and not stopping forcing Kimbral to throw over or step off and then just run into the out. And start fresh in the 10th with Edman on 2nd and the only “reliable” bats up. It doesn’t matter with the Reyes giving up the bomb, but just a strategy that came to mind. I also don’t know that taking the bat out of a middle of the order bat, even with 2 outs, in the bottom of the 9th, tie game, is the right play. I’m sure some computer could give the percentage on what would be the better strategy.
May 24, 2021 at 3:06 am #162193Poor Waino. Once again he’s out there all alone battling while our offense huddles impotently behind him.
May 24, 2021 at 4:34 am #162194How does an organization have zero outfielders that can hit?
It is quite simple. As soon as you get one who rakes in AAA you trade him for another power arm pitching prospect or just DFA him. If “abracadabra…poof, he’s gone” were possible we would probably just do that.
May 24, 2021 at 7:20 am #162198Funny stuff, Bling…..but then sad on the other hand. The key to kick-starting this anemic offense may just rest with starting pitcher, Jack Rafe Flaherty. What is he doing to motivate this offense to get off their duffs and do great things? Jack not only gets an “A” for the job he’s been doing on the mound, but also for doing the work that Jeff Albert, Jobel Jimenez, Patrick Elkins and Mike Shildt should be doing.
May 24, 2021 at 8:19 am #162203What a frustrating game last night. Our offense was anemic all weekend, and the Cubs pitching staff is not that strong. We were lucky we didn’t get swept.
Of course our two best relievers were used the last two games so they won’t be available tonight as we start a tough 10 game road trip.
Having O’Neill and Carlson both out is very tough for us. Williams and Thomas aren’t reliable producers although Thomas did have a big hit on Saturday. We just have a very weak bench. The only possible reason Williams is still on the roster must be because he is LH.
May 24, 2021 at 8:31 am #162206We need to play more bad teams so guys can pad their stats. Mo’s computer would be impressed.

ParticipantBader batting 5th and Williams batting 6th says it all.
May 24, 2021 at 8:37 am #162208I’m seeing Dejong at short, Sosa at 2b, and Edman in right here soon.
I would agree with that but apparently DeJong is going to be out longer than originally expected.

ParticipantSosa right now –
.387/.500..516/1.016
He’s finally gotten a chance to play. Don’t know why it’s taken this long.
Is it too extreme to think about Sosa at SS and DeJong in the OF some day?

Has DeJong ever played the outfield?
DeJong is “only” making $4 million this year. It’s not like he can’t be transitioned into the super utility (infielder) role if Edman and Sosa are better options at 2B and SS.

ParticipantLA – had Edman ever played the OF?
May 24, 2021 at 10:59 am #162216The offense would look much different had the Cards not sold Garcia to Texas or traded Arozarena to Tampa Bay. At this point, the front office needs to find a way to make lemonade out of lemons … which most means trading someone for an outfielder that can hit.
The bullpen also needs help as well. The crew they rolled out Friday night did not look ready for prime time. It could have been an off night for some. However, Webb has had several off nights … like every time he goes out.
May 24, 2021 at 11:41 am #162217Webb has been horrible since hes been here… i have no clue how he is still pitching at this level.
May 24, 2021 at 12:33 pm #162225DeJong’s problem is hitting, not fielding. He is a very capable shortstop so there is no reason to move him to the OF.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWe threw Helsley tied to start the 7th and lost.
Then threw Wainwright 8 full, followed by Gallegos (still tied) in the 9th, and Reyes in the 10th.
Still lost. No guarantees. Shildts relievers failed twice and the manager gets to wear it, again I suppose. -
