Lol. gscottar, so true! You see these bottom feeder teams and you realize their pitching is just awful and then one day you look in the mirror and see, it is us! So sad!
The one comment I keep reading on here that bothers me the most is the one “Maybe Flaherty will get back to his old self” STOP It! He is terrible! Losing him won’t hurt us at all! Let’s just live with the fact we suck and see if FO can get us fixed for next year! The way things look pitching wise right now next year May be worse! Everything the FO does from this point on should have nothing to do with this year and everything to do about making sure it isn’t a long term problem!
Yes Blingboy, I would play him everyday in May and if his OPS is still bad then get rid of him! I suspect if you wanted you could find a stat that would make it hard to play any of our players right now with the exception of Goldy! Not sure if playing Carlson everyday is the right thing to do but I am sure it is what I would do! We gotta find out if some of these young guys can do it and if not get rid of them!
Since you ask here is what I would do
1) cut Knizner and bring Herrera up! He can’t be any worse
2) bring up Liberatore and start him every 5th day! See if he can do it!
3) bring up Walker move him to left field and play him everyday
4) tell Carlson he is the everyday center fielder and live with it
5) platoon O’Neill and Noot in right field
6) if things don’t get better by trade deadline Sell Sell Sell and try and get some prospects for people like Flaherty and Montgomery who you won’t have next year anyway
7) make room at the trade deadline for Masyn Winn to play everydayFailure to develop, trade for or sign a solid 1 and 2 pitcher since at least 2019 has come to roost! And unfortunately the future looks bleak with only Matz and Mikolas back! I think big money (A.Nola) or tons of young players(S.Ohtani) will now be required or both to give us a chance next year!
This team can’t win for losing! It is definitely getting late early! A 4th place finish in this division isn’t out of the question!
April 26, 2023 at 9:02 pm in reply to: Why Jordan Walker will start the season in AAA – not MLB #217911Totally agree with BW, patience sorely lacking here! Of all the reasons you could blame this terrible start JW is not one of them! I think the fans patience with FO is getting just as short!
Burleson is gonna be this years PDJ! Play him until everyone knows he can’t hit and then just keep playing him! I would take Walker over Burleson every day of the week and twice on Sunday! Burleson is just as likely to benefit from Memphis as Walker IMO!
I don’t understand why Walker is sent down and Burleson plays everyday! Walker is a better hitter right now than a Burleson and both stink in the field! The only reason I can think of is perhaps they want other teams to see Burleson for a trade but that is very risky IMO! He seems headed to under 200 and then no one will take him!
The Sky is Falling! Nuff said!
Thank you, Larry 24! Some will defend the front office but we have low dollared ourselves into a rough spot! Yes it’s early and you hope we get better but with the current pitching staff I just don’t see it happening! Last place in what many feel is the worst division in baseball is not what I hoped for. What scares me is next year! If you think pitching is bad now just wait! Unless the policy changes and we go out and buy a 1 and 2 but I won’t hold my breath!
This team is terrible! Management is about to get what they paid for, or didn’t pay for and hopefully fans will stay away in droves and changes will be made!
Perhaps we will be so far gone by the trade dead line we can become sellers and get something for the pieces we have that are gonna leave anyway! Flaherty and Montgomery and are be gone for sure IMO so maybe we could get some good young arms for basically nothing!
This whole situation was caused by lack of strengthening the staff! Someone should have to answer for that but no one will which is why we are in this situation!
I have a terrible feeling that after we cut Hicks someone is going to pick him up and actually COACH him and he will become a valuable 7th or 8th inning guy for a contender!
Jordan Hicks happened, again!
Why would any thinking person! A person with a sane mind, choose Jordan Hicks in this situation! Been watching baseball for 50+ years and that is as dumb as it gets!
This is becoming ridiculous! Looks like the same game over and over! Our starting pitching is terrible!
Maybe our guys think it’s the playoffs! Lol!
I love Gorman and sure don’t want to lose him! Hitting and hitting potential is not our problem! Pitching and defense is! We did absolutely nothing in the off season to strengthen our pitching staff! Most saw that staff as a weakness and in the first 10 games is any indication most were correct! I was brought up being told you win with pitching and defense and I believe it is true! Someone or some group is going to have to be sacrificed for pitching! My choices would be O’Neill and Edman or Donovan because moving the proven middle infielder will get us more and open up a spot for Gorman or Masyn Winn! The bottom line is the pitching is bad and IMO can’t be fixed by picking up a number 4 and 5 starter at the trade deadline! We are gonna have to package a good group of hitters to fix out pitching issues!
Blingboy, I agree getting Montgomery was great! He is the only starter we have that I have any faith in at the moment! However we may not have him for long as we just spent 20 million a year on Mikolas which seems crazy at the moment and with Boras as an agent I don’t see him in St. Louis after this year! I love your outfield of O’Neill in left Carlson in Center Noot in right and Walker DH! Makes great sense and they is why I’m almost sure it won’t happen! Lol!
Well at least the good news is there are 4 teams in MLB with a worse winning % than we have!
The bad news is they are the Tigers, Royals, A’s and Nationals! Not exactly a who’s who of contenders
Finally a I thought of something today! In one year we have gone from the best young defensive outfield in baseball to the worst young defensive outfield in baseball! Quite an accomplishment!Jj-cf-stl, so true! Those lists of 20 pitchers always made me feel worse, not better! Could never find a 1 or 2 in any of those names! Our starting pitching will get better! They can’t stay at a 7.5 era, but they are not very high on the top rotations in mlb IMO and aren’t gonna be as they stand now! Maybe around 15th or so which is obviously middle of the pack and may not be good enough!
Maybe we should let a reliever( not JH) start the first inning and then put the starter in!
These players today seem a little sensitive! O’Neill was loafing, and got called out! Move on! This used to happen all the time and no one cried or cared!
Man this starting pitching is terrible! We are gonna have a ton of comeback wins this year are we are gonna be in serious trouble!
