I think it was him, Euro. It seemed like every time he sent a baserunner, Clemente rifled one in to HP…Haha!

I kind of thought O’Neil wasnt running full speed as well but like you say, could have just been the angle I saw

If it was more recent, it could’ve been Chris Maloney, but I don’t remember him being bad. Maybe he was. I was going to see a lot of games live when Lachemann was 3B coach and remember thinking he made more bad decisions than what seemed acceptable.

Caray just said the Cards have 63 hits in the first 5 games. Fourth time in franchise history having 10 or more hits in each of the first 5 games. And on pace to lose 97. 😉

Front office might consider taking quality more seriously than quantity when they go shopping for pitchers later this year.

ATL’s a pretty good team, but the Cardinals simply haven’t been given much to work with from their SP’ers in these 2 games. The BP sure did look pretty good tonight, though. Oh well, a loss just the same.

Marmol’s post game pressers are pretty wearisome and mundane. I miss “Tony TV”. Those were always entertaining and seemed to be even more so after a Cardinal loss…At times, after a particularly annoying question, it seemed as though the star of “Tony TV” was taking on the look of weapons grade fissle material that was about to exceed it’s melting point…Haha!

OK, there are a few things worth mentioning:

I guess if the lefties had been in the lineup it would have been 4-0 instead of 4-1. Good call on that Ollie.

It seems like allowing 10 hits in 5.1 innings should be mathematically impossible.

I have not been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and quality of our outfield defense. They very much wish Walker was an outfielder, and I hope they get their wish some day. But nobody else has looked good out there either. Once Noot comes back maybe Walker could do some DHing for a while.

I did like Motter’s defense at 2B, and he is doing as well as anybody at the plate. Donovan lite so far.

When all the starters suck it makes sense to look for a common denominator. I was thinking Contreras, but Knizer was in there some too, and I don’t think they did any better. Blake maybe. They get killed early for some reason. Edmonds was saying its the time of year, etc. But its the same time of year for everybody.

The 10 hits tonight were pretty well scattered. ATL dispatched Matz and the Cardinals in the same fashion as they did last night against Woodruff with the HR. In those 2 games the Redbird SP’ers were touched up for 5 of them of which accounted for a total of 9 ATL runs. Obviously, they have keep the baseball in the ballpark.

You’re not the only one. Lol I saw it a few times and clearly he slowed a tad on that. It would’ve been a close play but in a game of inches and feet I think he makes it without the slight hesitation after hitting 3rd.

Yeah when I watched it O’Neil didn’t look like he was going full speed ever…

Marmol seemed to pile on to O’Neill after last night. O’Neill has quite the injury history, so I understand it. I’ve also felt O’Neill was a bit fragile mentally as well. Still, I think Marmol should be on a short leash with the public call outs. I’d be in favor of a mid season firing if he can’t control his tongue.

    Euro,

My thoughts exactly. This is pathetic.

Lack of max effort and execution on outfield defense is a bigger concern than whether an injury prone guy was pumping around 3B hard enough.

Here are some of the runs scored around MLB Monday and yesterday –

    Dodgers – 13
    Guardians – 12
    Cubs – 12
    Athletics – 11
    Mariners – 11
    Rays – 10
    Brewers – 9
    Diamondback – 8
    Orioles – 7

Seems like many ML pitchers haven’t settled in yet. Let’s give it some time with our starters.

If we go back to last year, the score on public call outs is Marmol 1, Player 0. Marmol is probably okay as long as he doesn’t wax philosophically behind closed doors.

So when does O’Neill get traded?

So Marmol said something about Tyler not giving 100% or that he wasn’t AT 100%? Either way it seems a little early in the year to start pushing your message through the media. I was thinking today would be a good day to start Carlson at CF anyway.

After reading the story on ESPN, sounds like normal frustration boiling over. A few wins ought to put this to bed

The outfield defense is not good.

It’s difficult to judge via computer screen, of course, but sometimes I get the impression these Cardinal outfielders are giving up on some quite catchable balls, holding up and taking balls on the first bounce rather than giving it the old Harry Bader charge straight ahead. But as I said, it’s difficult to judge if you ain’t there.

If O’Neill was indeed dogging it as he rounded 3B, that’s no good. And if Marmol indeed indicated to the media that he thought that was the case, that’s no good either. In my view, it’s a serious issue that should be addressed at once, however the only settings in which to properly address it is in the clubhouse or manager’s office for the simple reason that the media are trained and championed to blow something like this way out of proportion. It’s just what they do and if Marmol doesn’t know that to be the case, someone with practical experience should tell him.

These players today seem a little sensitive! O’Neill was loafing, and got called out! Move on! This used to happen all the time and no one cried or cared!
