Arenado’s golden sombrero did not help the cause.

Well, Marmol was long since out of the game, so should we blame McEwing?

If the front office is forcing Marmol and McEwing to use Hicks then shame on the front office. If Ollie is just being stubborn and doing it on his own then not only shame on Marmol but the front office should take things out of his hands by trying to demote Hicks to AAA, DFA him, or try to trade him for someone’s class A filler.

It reminds me of 2014 when Matheny refused to remove Allen Craig from the lineup even though it was obvious that he had lost it. Mo finally orchestrated a trade of Craig and Mitchell Boggs to Boston for John Lackey, which was quite a heist in favor of the Cardinals.

Mo had to save Matheny from himself. Maybe history needs to repeat itself. And I do feel bad for Hicks. He needs a fresh start elsewhere.

Keep enough bum pitchers in the pen and we will draft pick closer to twenty, every round, than thirty. Oh, and pocket the $ good relievers should have cost.

    This isn’t a yearly trend, it’s a game plan.

There’s plenty wrong right now. When you’re at home and have to win on Sunday to salvage a push in a 4 game set with a clearly inferior Pittsburg team, it certainly ain’t good. There’s a lot of talent on this team and I still think that talent will win the NLC. My primary concern consists of the decisions and judgements sourced from the clubhouse office and dugout area. Many of them are clearly the type which could well be termed foolish and they’re too abundant to be listed in this comment. Furthermore, If I can detect them, I’m entirely certain that many of the talented ballplayers on this roster can see them as well. My foremost fear is that these players will reach the point in which a total lack of confidence in the their leadership will contribute to a lack of confidence on the field of play. If that happens, they may well be reluctant to fully man the ramparts.

Bling…You and I both know that the Redbird field manager monitored and dictated this game from the clubhouse.

It was Craig and Joe Kelly traded for Lackey

DeJong is in the Memphis lineup today.

A busy day around here so fortunately I did not have to watch this one. When I saw the line score and it showed “L – Hicks” and a gigantic ERA I figured we either had no one else to turn to, or management is the definition of insane.

The only hope for Hicks is to go to the minors and work on being a starter. Get stretched out in a low stress environment where you can have a bad inning but recover. He has the live arm, but never got a chance to work through the system and learn to pitch. He was asked to simply throw at the top level at a young age, which lead to injuries and now he is trying to figure it out in high stress situations. Just a total mismanagement of what should be a real good pitcher. Has all the tools of a top of the rotation pitcher, but has been mishandled. Still who knows – Sandy Koufax had a similar early career. His was due to the goofy bonus rule where the Dodgers had to keep him. He struggled a lot his first 5 or 6 years, then got it together. I think Hicks can do that, but again, needs to go to the minors and get in the reps.

Some areas of concern. Our club is -8 in run differential. Thus our W-L record is an accurate indicator of our play. It is not like we are having a lot of bad luck. We may have had some, as they were talking last night about our hard-hit ball rate leads the majors. But our pitching is lousy.

Second, in the early going Milwaukee, Chicago, and Pittsburgh all look better than last year. Maybe even the Redlegs are a little better. Our club looks quite a lot worse. The division looks more competitive.

Not the kind of start we expected coming out of Spring Training. A long season, but the early trends are mostly negative for our St. Louis Cardinals.

I happened to notice during today’s telecast that Johnny got plenty of screen time as the camera panned over numerous times to feature his image while he was sitting alone on the climate controlled side of the plexiglass in the domain of his exalted and lofty sky box and carefully observing the proceedings down on the field. I wouldn’t go so far as to say Johnny looked angry or unhappy, but he certainly took on the look of a man that I would term highly somber and serious. He seemed to be paying very close attention and formulating some sort of decisive action. You can never be entirely certain of the thoughts that swirl around in a man’s coconut simply by his expression, but you can certainly get a reasonably distinct idea…

I have a terrible feeling that after we cut Hicks someone is going to pick him up and actually COACH him and he will become a valuable 7th or 8th inning guy for a contender!

You are correct Oliver it was Kelly that accompanied Craig to Boston. Mo did the right thing with that trade.

I don’t think that would happen. Hicks does not seem to have any skills besides throwing 100. Disciplined high level hitters just wait him out. But Mo’s gaggle of gun groupies still think he’s got potential. sigh.
