1TD, furniture? Mine is already gone after watching these pitchers for 4 games! The offense makes it fun though!

If I were a big league scout I think I just saw how to get Big Alec out without throwing a strike! He seems unable to stay off the breaking ball down in the zone! If I were he I would expect to see they pitch a lot the next few weeks are so!

1td we have played 4 games so far and Hicks has pitched in 3! If he pitches in 75% of our games this year I’ll be certifiably insane by the end of the season! Lol!

Hicks needs to be sent to AAA if possible or sent packing! His time is St.Louis has run its course! He will benefit from a fresh start and we will obviously benefit by giving up less runs!

I will say again! My son against Jordan Hicks in HS and he has not improved at all! Still can’t throw strikes, period! You would hope after 5 years in the organization his control would improve! I think it is safe to say it is never going to get better!

Why would any manager, after seeing Hicks on Thursday stick him out there in the 8th inning again! Everybody on the team busting there butts and here comes Hicks again! If we hang on it’ll be great but if we lose we got just what that decision deserved

Gonna be a long season with this pitching staff! On the other hand lots of fun high scoring games coming! When our closer starts the 9th with a 4 pitch walk you just kinda hang your head! Hicks is not good, period!

Jack looks just like he did all last year! Walks way to many hitters, throws way too many pitches an inning and just looks average at best! Anyone with faith in him, it is blind faith! He has done very little the last 2 years! Hope I’m wrong but I doubt I will be!

This has to end soon! We should have moved on from PDJ so long ago it’s ridiculous!

Bike Mike, I totally agree on last years outfield! We were calling ONeill, Bader and Carlson the best young outfield in baseball! I bought it hook line and sinker! Not again! The best of the three IMO is now on the Yankees and the other two did so little last year I doubt either one is truly an everyday player on a contender! Out outfield is weak and Walker has to come through for us!

Hopefully Burnes will be so mad and want to stick it to the Brewers and sign with us to take his revenge! That would be awesome! A real #1!

Just got finished listening to the 1967 WS! Had to drive from Texas to South Dakota and got all 7 games in! What a team! Maris batting 3rd, Cepeda 4, McCraver 5! I cried a lot! Know that sounds wimpy but Dan they were just so good!

All my old Cardinal hero’s are gone
    Brock
    Gibson
    McCarver
I am just so saddened today! Those Cardinal teams of the 1960’s will never be topped!!

    2 thoughts on Montas!
    1) I think the A’s should have some splaining to do on the shoulder issue! They obviously knew he was damaged and I understand buyer beware but still it seems wrong to trade a guy you know is damaged as healthy!
    2) so the Montas trade looks bad for 2023 but if he comes back and wins 18 games in 2024 and 16 in 2025 maybe a great trade! We will have to wait and see! When we traded Alcantara and Gallen for Ozuna they trade looked way better the year it happened than it does now!

Bling boy, obviously it does matter what Dejong did 5 years ago and what Mo did 12 years ago because we keep paying them huge sums of money to NOT hit and lose in the playoffs! Good gravy!

For me the question becomes when is a little longer too long! Like with DeJong? Are we still wanting a longer look at him? I’ve seen enough! I know it seems like your damned if you do and damned if you don’t, but that’s why they get paid the big bucks! I agree with GS post! Hope we take some bigger chances down the road!

Sanchez was a top pitcher on 2 different teams that made it to or won the WS! He could be dominant! Struck out 18 or 19 I think one game as a Tiger! He is not now but was in the 2010’s pretty dog gone good! My point is when your facing a great pitcher it shouldn’t come as a shock that the offense does little! That’s when you need your aces to step up and throw a shit out! Kinda like Carpenter in game 5 of 2011! We only scored one run in that game! But alas we don’t have a Carpenter so when we face an ace we have to hope we get 4 or 5 runs and that is kinda hard to do!

Jnevel In some of those 8 games you mentioned where we scored 1 or 0 we faced some pretty good pitchers
    Annibal Sanchez
    Max Scherzer twice
    Steven Strasburg
    Aaron Nola
Doesn’t surprise me our offense struggled! Those guys led there teams to the WS for a reason!

1td, I think you hit the nail on the head with Hudson! When you look at his numbers you say “he’s pretty good” but when you watch him with your eyes he is hard to watch! Seems to have no clue where the ball is going and is SO slow! I think we are fans who watch every game get frustrated with him even when he does well because of his slowness and overall body language! Hope he can win 15 again this year! We need him!

I’m glad Rolen got in but don’t understand why Edmonds was not even really considered! He has more gold gloves than Rolen, a better lifetime batting average and way more home runs! I think he may have been dropped off because he didn’t get enough votes in his first year but hope the old timers group will consider him someday!

One might argue that calling them #3’s is a compliment! In his last three season Mikolas is 23 and 30 on winning teams! Most contending teams would not be counting on those numbers for a number 3! Flaherty pitched one good game last year! He is always hurt! His greatest season to date he won 11 games! Most contending teams probably wouldn’t be counting on him to be a #3 either! Even if Flaherty got back to his top form could he maintain it for a whole season? History says no! Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that Flaherty pitches all year and gets back to form and wins 22 and Mikolas goes back to his 18-4 season of 2018! But keeping your fingers crossed is a risky way of hoping to win it all, if that really is the goal!

One more time! I’m not stupid! I know we can make changes before the playoffs assuming we are in them! We all know who the pitchers on this staff are! We all hope they are good enough to win in the playoffs and we all know there will be injuries and additions to come! What I doubt is we will get a solid number 1 and 2 pitchers to help us really make a deep playoff run! No need to list our roster of pitchers! I know who they are!

We constantly fuss about the same thing! A few on here are convinced the cardinal pitching we have right now is good enough to win in the playoffs, while I think most disagree! I personally see this group of pitchers as good enough to win our division and that’s about it! Our 1 and 9 record in our last 10 days we have need for major improvements! I’m hoping we do great but expecting an outcome very similar to last year!

1td. I also was okay with Quintana going elsewhere because I assumed we would do something to strengthen our pitching! We didn’t! I agree with Nathan that hoping people will just suddenly do better is not really a strategy! If you compare our pitching staffs to other contenders you can make a decent argument that our depth is as good as some others! Where you can’t argue is the top of the rotation! We simply don’t have the horses at the top! I wish we did and I hope someone comes through big but I feel silly to predict that will happen! Most likely it won’t!
