Eddie from the right side vs. a RH’er.

Nice to get the 2 out, 2 RBI double from the talented rookie.

I am unbelievably tired of seeing a reliever in the 6th inning.

Never paid close attention to Contreras behind the plate with the cubs, but he consistently struggles to frame pitches for the ump. Another reason to bring on robo umps.

Plus, he can’t block a pitch in the dirt to save his life.

It is exhausting. The only thing worse than seeing the relievers in the 6th would be to see the Cards’ starters in the 6th.

Contreras is an absolute mess behind the plate. Good Lord.

I kinda blame him for those 3 runs.

Gonna be what – 7 games back now.

That is starting to be a lot.

No point blaming Contreras or the pitchers. When you only get 3 hits you are not going to win. We didn’t take any walks either. The timely hit by Walker is the only thing the offense did all game.

All that being said, 3 wild pitches and a balk is pretty ragged.

Catcher gets forgotten about as part of defense up the middle. Brian could probably tell us whether fantasy ball players consider that when constructing their roster. My guess is no.

Someone mentioned that PDJ had a good game in Memphis. He has put up a nice batting line there and I think his return is imminent. He did the same last year, getting hot for a while in AAA. It didn’t last long once he returned and all right thinking people who exist in the real world know that it will not last this time either. But there are 9 million reasons why the brass will not accept reality.

We don’t need a late inning middle infield glove man for defensive replacement duty. We do sort of need a bat off the bench though. We’ve got Carlson, O’Neill, Motter and Knizner, counting Gorman as DH for accounting purposes. None of those are a compelling choice if what you need are base runners, and it is not surprising we didn’t see a pinch hitter down late last night. We didn’t really have one. That’s another fine mess.

Well 6 games back and plenty of April left to go. A team can’t win it in April, but they sure as heck can lose it. The construction of this team once again leaves much to be desired. When does Mozliak have to answer for anything associated with this team’s shortcomings?

There isn’t much Mo can do now until trade season.

I guess he can go dumpster diving and try to sign Bumgardner?

He can buy a new string of prayer beads.

He hold his breath until he turns blue.

    What else?

Yeah I said the same thing earlier in the month. Not much he can do for now except maybe call up a pitcher or two from AAA but that isn’t the best option by any stretch. He created this problem in the offseason with the lack of effort to address the rotation and the pen. Problem is if this continues the trade deadline won’t help either except to move along players not in the future of the organization. Its kind of a developing mess in some regards.

I saw where Bally was not going to pay certain teams broadcast rights that were losing money for them.

Does that imply that they WILL pay for money makers like StL?

I hope so as the Cards can’t afford to lose that money…..they are cheap enough as it is

Texas…..great post as I have been screaming this for years now. Now he gets an extension! When you think of this staff coming off last year and all the problems NOT to add arms is reprehensible.

Mo only answers to Junior. Junior approves all deals. Mo can’t do anything without Junior’s permission. Mo has done exactly what Junior wanted. He kept the payroll low and has the roster just like Junior told him. “We are competitive,” Junior says every year after they lose in the playoffs. They will NEVER spend like the Tier One teams. They say they’re poor. Maybe they are or just greedy but whatever the reason the roster will always resemble this years. Two maybe three stars. The Front Office trumpets their up and coming phenoms…this year it’s Walker. The fans then hold onto the hope that the youngsters will blossom. This year people will buy tickets to see Walker. I’m enjoying watching him like everyone but will he bring a World Series trophy home? Answer that anyway you want. Now, Junior’s goal is always 3.3. If that happens then it’s a good season…for Junior. He has the world’s greatest BS artist ever to go out and sooth masses and what happens after they get knocked out in the playoffs every year. Season ticket sales are brisk and the fans flock to the gates all season the following year. This is the best franchise anyone could own and Junior is the smartest owner ever. So, don’t blame Mo, he’s doing what he’s paid to do.

Perhaps we will be so far gone by the trade dead line we can become sellers and get something for the pieces we have that are gonna leave anyway! Flaherty and Montgomery and are be gone for sure IMO so maybe we could get some good young arms for basically nothing!

This whole situation was caused by lack of strengthening the staff! Someone should have to answer for that but no one will which is why we are in this situation!

Well, the sunny side is that we’re only 4.5 off the pace for a WC…

Mo has a budget, with projections going out so many years. If Jr had the Rays front office working for him, he’d be getting more bang for the buck, but he doesn’t. I agree that he seems comfortable with what he’s got.

He could get uncomfortable though. Maintaining enough competitiveness to keep the revenue stream growing is going to be very expensive if they have to buy a rotation. They got off relatively cheap buying a middle of the order, but that will come back around in a few years. They need to do something besides develop complementary pieces and marginal starters.

Don’t you guys know that this mess is all because of our manager? Besides, Mo is the teflon don.
