Typically I would call this a loss but for whatever reason the Cardinals always seem to have Kershaw’s number.

Maybe what Mo meant is Noot is the center fielder except when he’s the right fielder. Let Carlson get his hacks vs the lefty I guess.

We need Carlson to be the center fielder, and hit.

Taking a early gander at the out-of-town scoreboard on this late Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates win Game #1 of the DH 6-3 over the Senators at RFK Stadium.

Miami jumps on the Cubs for four runs in the 1st inning at Joe Robbie Stadium.

The Reds and Oakland no score in the 2nd at Oakland Alameda County Stadium.

The Angels are in Milwaukee to face the Brewers later tonight at Miller Park.

Under what logic is Contreras batting cleanup?

Lineup looks good on paper. Pitching might negate that. Montgomery needs to have a quality outing. I mean the 6 inning variety. Lol

    CIF asked:

Under what logic is Contreras batting cleanup?

I didn’t look up his career numbers against Kershaw, but this season, Contreras has a 1.212 OPS against left-handed pitchers. That is also why Carlson is hitting fifth.

While I am on the subject, I bet you didn’t know this.

Under what logic is Contreras batting cleanup?

The same logic that has Arenado (.248/.292/.333/.625, OPS+ 76) batting third.

You are right on, BB. Looking at Arenado’s splits, his OPS against LHP this season is a decent .853. Good job scoping that out!

P.S. He has a .925 career OPS vs. Kershaw. Double kudos!

Can they please just try Goldschmidt in the 3 hole? Just a series or two. I just don’t understand the reasoning for him batting in the 2 hole. I’ve played this game and coached it and I just can’t for the life of me understand it. I know the computer algorithm says that his best spot in the order. Whatever…

Okay, this is Johnny’s last chance. I’m only going to tell him once. The following line-up will produce a 21-7 W/L record in the month of May and vault the Redbirds back into serious contention in the NLC.

    Edman SS
    Donovan 2B
    Goldschmidt 1B
    Arenado 3B
    Gorman DH
    Contreras C
    O’Neill LF
    Carlson CF
    Nootbar RF

You can thank me in Oct. Johnny. I’ll have one of those Boy Band T-Shirts…

Pirates won the 1st game of the DH against Washington and are up 8-0 in the 4th in game two. Looking like the Cards will begin the night 9.5 games out of first. Lose and they will be ten (10) games out of first on 4/29.

We all know the Pirates will fade. They might want to start pretty soon.

Since they’re the closest team the Cardinals are looking up to, we might want to hope the Reds begin to fade…They’ve won 5 in a row.

    1TD,
Burleson instead of O’Neill is exactly what I’d do against RHP.

    Vs LHP I’d go
    Edman 2B
    Carlson CF
    Goldschmidt 1B
    Arenado 3B
    Contreras DH
    O’Neill LF
    DeJong SS
    Knizner C
    Nootbaar RF

Yes, Knizner would play vs every LHP
Get another LH bat out of the line up (Burleson and Gorman splits show they have no business facing a LHP for sure), and Knizner defense is SIGNIFICANTLY better than Contreras, maybe not his arm, but the receiving, blocking, framing is all much better and the pitchers look more comfortable throwing to him.

I thought Goldy started hitting better when they moved him to batting second, about a week ago, but I haven’t checked the batting order splits. It’s NFL draft month, which took a ton of research.

This is our best defensive lineup. Let’s see if they can score more runs than the pitchers give up.

1TD and I are on the same page with lineups. I would used the group he listed, with Burleson getting an occasional start in left, and DeJong at short with Edman at second on occasion vs LHP.

Taking another gander at that out-of-town scoreboard:

The Reds get two runs with two outs in the top of the 9th and down the Athletics 3-2. They have now won five in a row.

The Cubs lose again at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami by the score of 7-6.

The Pirates take Game #1 of the DH 6-3 over the Nationals at RFK Stadium. They now are pounding the Nats in Game #2 by the score of 12-0.

Milwaukee has an early 3-0 lead on the Angels at Miller Park in Milwaukee. No word on Front Row Amy yet in this one.

Pittsburgh i something else! Man – and to think, they are doing this with O’Neil Cruz for the most part. They will get him back in August.

They will slow down, but it’s getting to where you have to think they are a good club.

Just a fun stat to throw out there, Victor Scott now has 17 stolen bases in 20 games for Peoria. Assuming he was in the MLB and played 160 games (I know – huge assumption here – just go with it), he would steal around 135 bases in a season. Crazy. Also, he hit his first home run today as well. So yeah, that’s only about an 8 home run pace.

With a loss tonight and a day to go before May the St. Louis Cardinals would find themselves 10 games out of first place. Who would have bet that start through 29 games?

That has to be considered an epic fail and while only a month should lead to consequences for the leadership of this franchise.
