The thing that keeps my glasses rose colored regarding Hudson is how when he is on, you can look at him pitching in the 7th and he might only be at 75 pitches. He is one of our few guys that I feel can throw a complete game without 130 pitches
This may be posted elsewhere but in the “we all saw this coming a mile away” department, Helsey is getting an MRI after renewed tightness in forearm. Wish they would have got the surgery almost 3 months ago. I had a feeling he was going down for the count at some point this season from opening day.

Offer up Contreras along with some of our “prospects” who will never see significant play in St. Louis such as Yepez, Gomez, Connor Thomas to a team like the Angels with a big payroll but lousy farm and maybe we can get a deal and clear out some driftwood from the farm.
Edit: It was my intention that this offer would basically be for nothing in return other than ridding ourselves of Willson’s deal.
I was the biggest fool for championing that Matz deal. I even said we would be grateful we added the extra year. It has not been ideal so far but he has pretty good results since shifting back to the rotation….
I thought I read that we paid for the buy out for next year and half his salary for the remainder of this year
Former top prospect Noah Song just placed on waivers. He is rule 5 so team would have to carry him the rest of this season before he could resume his career after lengthy absence at a more fitting level, probably A+ or maybe AA. Phils are in win mode and can’t fit him on their roster. Couldn’t be much worse than Tepera or Naile. Go get him if he makes it as far as the Cardinals in the waiver claims, Mo.
Jorge Lopez traded from Twins to Marlins in exchange for Floro. His stock sure tumbled. At this time last year some Cards fans were making some truly shocking trade offers for this guy despite his coming out of nowhere. I said then that he would revert and he sure did. Of course I also championed the Matz deal to the point that I said we would be glad we added the extra year lol. It does look like Matz could be turning the corner however… I certainly wouldn’t give him away while paying half his salary like some would like to see
The post draft MLB.com write up of the catcher we got for Genesis focuses on his prep hitting ability rather than defense. I was hoping with his puny offensive numbers that maybe at least he was a good defense no hit guy
Who knows, maybe he pitches well and we can flip him for a lottery ticket in 2 weeks. Stranger things have happened. Hard to dislike this signing when he isn’t really blocking anyone emerging and he may be needed filler
His numbers in the minors look great and he has a good track record aside from the horrible start to this year. I was hoping the Cardinals signed him before last year instead of VerHagen and McFarland
Another name to toss in that 2011 bullpen was Eduardo Sanchez. I think he and Salas came up about the same time but Sanchez was considered the better prospect. He had great numbers in the minors and a good slider if I recall correctly. He lost effectiveness in 2012 and got claimed off waivers by the Cubs and was out of affiliated ranks shortly after.
I lost confidence in players names when Wes Swackhammer never amounted to a hill of beans. And when we drafted that guy, I want to say his name was Ben Diggins, and he didn’t sign, and ended up with the Dodgers I think. I was sure he was going to burn us and I don’t think he ever even made the big leagues
Well both Matz and Hudson will likely pitch as neither can be depended on to get through 3 innings without 5ER. I guess start the one that you hope will get you the easier lineup to face.
I don’t see Montgomery resigning. Not with the way the club has barely scored for him and the clubhouse surely isn’t all roses. And we no longer have the “great defense behind you” card to pull in negotiations
I was excited that day we traded for him. I didn’t have internet access at that time and the radio crew was being very mysterious. The first cards inter league series was that night but it was destined to be rained out so the radio crew was trying to keep us tuned in talking about the trade chatter all day and that the Cardinals may be acquiring an all star pitcher and that Danny Jackson was proposed to be going. Well that sounded great to me as Danny had really stunk it up for us. The crew really held out before telling us that Valenzuela was the main guy coming back. I still had visions of him no hitting us in 90 or 91 so it sounded good to me. But the big deal for me was Phil Plantier coming to the Cardinals. By this time his prospect lustre had faded nationally, but I remember my Beckett Monthly drooling all over him the off-season after his phenomenal debut with the Red Sox and I had bought 3 or 4 of his Topps Stadium club rookie (which was also Stadium Clubs first year) and I was sure he was going to be a superstar, especially after he hit like 35 homers one of his first years in San Diego. Valenzuela never won a game for us in 4 decisions but Jackson pitched even worse for the Pads if I’m not mistaken.
If I am Mo, I call up Philly and try Goldy and Contreras for Mick Abel. Really I just want to dump Contreras contract and it is worth it to clear Goldy’s contract and get Walker learning the 1st base job during a lost year. But I salivated over Abel during his draft year and would love to get him as he is overshadowed by Painter right now and had an injury early in his career. Philly gets a replacement for injured Hoskins this year and adds a couple big bats for their hopes to reclaim the pennant. Then I reveal my deepest, darkest, desire of all…replace Mo with Jeff “Who says you can’t go home” Luhnow. Ok, I’ll put my video game controller down now.
