Right now the Cardinals stand with sole possession of the 5th overall draft choice in 2024. The first, second, and third slots look beyond reach. But, after looking at the schedules of the White Sox and the schedule of the Cardinals, while taking into consideration the status of the Cardinals’ starting rotation, I’d say that we have a chance of overtaking the White Sox for the 4th overall pick. Let’s just hope that the new management team for the White Sox can motivate their team to win.
MLB went to a % draft lottery last draft. For instance, KC finished fifth worst and picked eighth last season.

The Cardinals are now 3rd in attendance per game. We’ve seen the home attendance falling, even with the “win now” players still playing for us.
The idea that Arenado and Goldschmidt sell tickets, so don’t trade them, is being tested. Bill is seeing the dwindling attendance results since the deadline.
Next season is a fresh start. BillyMo have stated 3 starters. If they go the Matz route, buying middling FA starters, we could be sellers again at the deadline. The freshness will wear off and attendance could fall again.
Does this force Bill to finally shop for a top end FA starter? Or two?
Equal value trades, subtracting from the lineup to acquire pitching, doesn’t make the end product better. It’s shuffling deck chairs.
Bill has his management in place. I don’t see a CWS type turnover in our FO. This offseason is on Bill to loosen the purse strings and bump payroll back to the top 10, so attendance doesn’t fall again.
They have already stated they are going after Urias, Nola, and
Snell. I’m sure that doesn’t mean they sign all three. Problem is, signing high price fa doesn’t guarantee success. Long term I would be happier seeing them invest in their system.The model has always been to have a pipeline of players coming up so we don’t have to be buying too much on the market. Not be doing the tear down rebuild rinse and repeat. So what happens if Mo spends the money this winter and next season it doesn’t work? Is Bill supposed to eat some contract and spend some more to try again in 2025? Bill is probably more concerned with the breakdown of the model than we are thinking. That makes Mo vulnerable.
Was just checking the standings and while we are in line for the 5th spot now, we are dangerously close to Pitt, Washington, and the Mets. We would do well to tank this final game of the series vs the Pirates to help cement our “lead”. Playing Palacios has backfired a tad but thankfully not enough to disrupt our losing. We may have to send him down and try Fermin in the outfield.
They have a multitude of games vs. very good teams that are all contending for post-season baseball from here on out, so there’s good reason to expect the final tally to be in the vicinity of 95 losses. They still have to play 7 vs. MIL, 6 vs. PHI, 6 vs. CIN, 3 vs. ATL and 3 vs. BAL, in addition to 6 with SD who may feel they still have a chance, so I’d expect something similar to Little Big Horn from here on out…But hey, they may run the table in September if the whiz-kid manager’s prophesy proves to be true.
So Jerry Reinsdorf finally mustered the intestinal fortitude to clean out the front office. Good for him. Will Bill DeWitt find the courage to do so?

Not saying he is wrong, but I sure as heck would not assume he is right, either.
Brian-Im new on this site. I’m assuming I need a paid subscription to use the quote feature? Which I plan on doing. It looks like it unlocks a lot of the goings on in the minors, which I like. Anyway, yes I guess I never heard that as an exact quote from Mo. I’ve just read it in multiple outlets. Either way, I’m not sold that buying pitching is the best way.

Considering those players are currently under contract to other teams, I would guess the answer is “yes”.
