Knizner is eligible to come off the list this weekend some time. Is there anything about his condition?

Hard to get news when the players are disbursed for the break. Likely the next updates will be on Friday afternoon once the clubhouse opens to the media.

FWIW, I would like to see more of Herrera.

The Cardinals pretty much blocked Herrera’s future with the club by signing Contreras unless they foresee a lot of DH time for Willson. Herrera looks like a trade candidate to me.

Well, at least the last series before and the first series after the break are against teams having seasons as bad as the Cardinals.

Kiz is probably being fitted for a larger cup.

While I like him and he seems to be slowly getting a little better, I agree that this lost season would be a good time to take longer look at Herrera.

The team looked to be in a win now mode last winter, and brought in Contreras rather than go with the younger guys. I thought had we gone with Knizner as our number one catcher he would hit better, given the chance to play more regularly and looking at his minor league numbers.

Plus Herrera would be a good potential starter in the next couple of years. But then the Contreras signing seemed okay as well – get another good bat in the lineup.

Now it looks like Ivan is likely to go elsewhere as part of a deal for controllable pitching.

Me too. Which is why I’m hoping Kniz can prove he’s healthy ASAP. ;-]

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m much higher on Mr. Knizner than I was last year at this time. I think he has all the making of an excellent backup receiver for the next 10 years. Matter of fact, I think there’s a fair chance that he ends up playing nearly as long as Yadi did, and just like Yadier, all with St. Louis.

I’m looking for a big second half and to get the ball rolling, how does an 8-3 throttling of the Nats tonight sound? I see an extra long tape measure being employed this evening to be put in use after Walker gets done walloping one high up into the outfield rafters. On a programming note, your’s truly may or may not be riding high in the PBP saddle. It all depends on……now get this……the ex-wifey has been trying to get me set up with her younger sister, who is 3 years younger than her and the ex-wifey is 14 years my junior……..which for all of you in Joliet, is 17 years younger than Pugs. Anyway, a bunch in her family are having a big get together in Shorewood tonight and I haven’t decided if I’m attending?

So am I Pugs. I know that catcher gate was a fiasco in many ways but I think this team plays better with Knizner behind the plate and Contreras at DH. The pitching staff just seems more comfortable with him and I think his bat would be serviceable with regular PT.

What’s the over/under on Gorman striking out twice tonight?

Be careful Pugs. Youth is fine but a modicum of experience can go a long way down happiness road.

I’m OK with Kiz, have mixed feelings about Contreras and would like to see more of Herrera. How’s that for wishywashy thinking?

Still wish Mr. Manager would flip Noot and Goldy in the order. Goldy is a run producer, the most consistent we have along with Arenado. Was hoping he came to his senses at the break.

That is crazy Pugs – your ex wants to set you up with her sister? Something does not seem right with that scenario. With most divorces the ex would prefer never seeing you again, much less bringing you back into the family. Sounds like there are ulterior motives going on there.

I am more curious about why OlliMo thinks Noot should bat third than why he thinks Goldy should bat second.

#STLCards C Andrew Knizner (groin) has been cleared for baseball activities & could be activated on Sat, manager Oli Marmol said.

Marmol said a case can be made to keep 3 catchers on the roster — Willson Contreras, Ivan Herrera & Knizner — with how they’re using the bench.

I think it is written into law that a LH batter must bat between Goldy and Arenado. It was Gorman until he cooled off so now it is Noot. I understand the concept but the lefty righty thing is annoying.

Marmol doesn’t want two lefties at the top of the order. And he wants to go with the R-L-R in the heart of the order.

It’s funny folks. Please remember this. Someone once said having Goldschmidt and Arenado hitting 2-3 in the lineup means that strikes fear in the opposition and their pitcher. Having to face those two immediately.

Well, gee, I wonder why Herzog didn’t bat Jack Clark 2nd……..

Fortunately for Whitey he managed before the days of Moneyball and didn’t have to deal with the front office sending down droves of spreadsheets to study and implement.

    Other injury updates.
O’neill will be reevaluated after Sunday’s game in Memphis.
Edman will miss several days. Got an injection of pain killer in wrist.
Donovan will DH and work through a throwing program.
    Monty will start Teusday.
Wainwright feeling better “slowly progressing toward a return to pitching.”

Goldy just isn’t hitting well w/men on (.722) or RISP (.714) and we are past halfway.

Leader with men on? Gorman (.939)
    Leader w/RISP? Nootbaar (1.082)

So yah, it’s a spreadsheet thing about the current club, in case you missed it.

I sure hope Jr invests in a software upgrade this winter. And some smarter wonks.

Yeah – so Goldy “not hitting well with men on” obviously means that is how he will do the rest of the season in these guy’s thinking. Sheesh…no wonder this club doesn’t win.

Its a who’s hot and who’s not game Mike. Always has been and it’s not 2022.

Of course we could always draw names out of a hat when your predetermined notions don’t live up to your expectations.

Although I consider Jim Edmonds to be the best Redbird CF’er of my lifetime and I always really enjoyed seeing him play, he’s one of the most annoying PBP sidekicks that I’ve ever been subjected to. There’s been quite a few of these guys over the years that have made me thankful for the mute button, but Jimmy’s right at the top of the list. Insufferable is the only term I can think of. Sorry Jimmy.
