    Seems like a fair fight.

Matz to DL with lat strain. Expected to miss more than the minimum and possibly the rest of the year. Thompson expected to take his spot in rotation

Hopefully the team will use the balance of the season to evaluate as many near MLB ready prospects as they can.

Veteran players continue to drop like flies.

I’d like to see players like Mikolas, Goldschmidt and Arenado ‘s workload cut back to decrease the chance they also get injured. Anyone over the age of 30, lol.

I suspect that Matz is gone until spring training ’24. No need to bring him back, right? It will open a spot on the 40-man Mo just has to pick the right prospect or add a young waiver wire guy that will be around a while, at least until the end of the season.

At this point the team has nothing to lose.

As a reminder, they already have three 40-man openings currently due to the trades, but Helsley will need one. So they could still add three guys without even dealing with the marginal guys taking roster spots.

The bigger challenge may be 26-man spots, but at least that goes up slightly, to 28 on September 1.

Speaking of Matz. What a favorable turnaround over the last 2 months. He was just awful for such a long period of time for us. If I had to venture a guess, I think the reason for his vast improvement had to with more than just recovering from injury. He’s changed something in how he conducts business on the hill.

Matz career was going down the toilet. I think he had a long talk with himself and just decided to get way more aggressive with his pitches because, why not? What he was ding simply wasn’t working – at all.

RHP Ryan Helsley’s next rehab outing has been pushed back from Wednesday because of soreness, manager Oli Marmol said.

Although he’s looked real good in his last 5 turns allowing only 4 ER’s in 29 innings of work, I won’t be placing any wagers on Matz until he’s able to feature 5 or 6 decent turns in April and May of ’24 when the Cardinals are competing at the start of next season and his outings mean something.

Whoa!…Just got a good look at the seats. I know it’s still early and before first pitch, but my count is 6250 in the seats. On the sunny side, I don’t think they’ll run out of beer.

I imagine they will do their utmost not to show shots of the stands.

I’d say so too, Bling. I happened to see a good camera angle when it was focused on Hudson for an extended amount of time while he was still getting loose and warming up on the mound prior to first pitch. Even the field level boxes looked desolate. I guessed 6250, but with a lot of late arrivals, it’s probably 6300 by now…

Haha!…Yeah, dollar beers may help, but they’re probably afraid the unwashed masses will drink themselves into a frenzied mob and storm Johnny’s skybox…He’d end up like Marie Antoinette!

That may be the worst baserunning play that I’ve seen by a Cardinal since Holliday got picked off of 3B during game 6 of the ’11 WS.

Gamecast just says Knizner doubled off third. Sounds like it could happen to anyone.
