No I do not want to trade Arenado. The Dodgers better empty their farm system plus major league ready players. Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone, are easily a minimum to start any talks. Plus a ton more.

If Arenado wants to go to the Dodgers it will probably happen. Still a big IF

Arenado was a fool for not opting out. He said he wanted to be on a winner, which I assumed meant a WS winner…that will never happen here. He could have been playing third for the Dodgers this year and maybe be in the WS. So, I think if he is asked to waive his NTC for the Dodgers, it’ll be a big yes.

But again, the Cardinals are not trading him to LA or anywhere else, so all this talk is still pointless.

He’d have to be crazy not to.

There were a couple of plays that Arenado made last night that were beyond athleticism. They were works of art, ‘art in motion’.

There is a Greek mythological character whose name is Diogenes (for those who care two beans about Greek mythological characters). He is, more or less, the grand patron of cynics. Anyway, Diogenes is portrayed as a guy who goes around at night holding a a lantern up to the face of everybody he encounters, looking for an honest man. Reminds me of someone I sort of know whose opinions are entertaining, maybe even wise at times, but most often hopelessly cynical. (I think all the trade deadline rumors are making me a little goofy.)

It’s funny. There have been more rumors this year about Cardinal players being traded than any other year I can recall. And what’s funny is that nobody is going to be traded. I am not expecting anything over the next few days. I guess I could be wrong but I believe Mo and gang are going to chalk 2023 up to just being a bad year and we will try again next year with basically the same team.

I am still hopeful we can sign Flaherty and Montgomery to extensions.

    Here’s to 2024!

I’ve been thinking basically the same thing, Rat. Lots and lots of smoke, but no fire. The exception would be Contreras, in my opinion. If they can find somebody to take Contreras and his albatross of a contract off their hands, I think they’d do it in a second. The downside to that is that Contreras is just liable to become a star catcher again if playing somewhere else.

his lingering unhappiness over losing his arbitration case

Obviously, he wouldn’t have been happy about losing, so he would have been unhappy about losing. Therefore it is the “lingering” part which is at issue. I would like someone to flat out ask Denton what his source is to support the “lingering unhappiness” assertion. If there is none, then Helsley has a serious beef since that type of assertion could potentially influence organizations’ perception of him, and therefore potentially affect his career prospects.

More importantly, it could affect his ability to do his job effectively if players develop mistrust. Generally, the MLB-employed team reporter is not on the leading edge of critical writing.

It’s still possible that Jordan Hicks and the Cardinals come to an agreement on an extension, but St. Louis is drawing interest from a number of teams including the Rangers, Rays & Dbacks, per sources

Interesting hammer to try to get a player to agree to an extension. “Either agree or get traded. Your call, Jordan.”

Arenado was never asked to waive his no trade clause and has no idea how the rumors started.

    Rat,

Most trades happen within 24 hours of the deadline. I think we will see both smoke and fire. Monday and Tuesday will be busy.

Former top prospect Noah Song just placed on waivers. He is rule 5 so team would have to carry him the rest of this season before he could resume his career after lengthy absence at a more fitting level, probably A+ or maybe AA. Phils are in win mode and can’t fit him on their roster. Couldn’t be much worse than Tepera or Naile. Go get him if he makes it as far as the Cardinals in the waiver claims, Mo.

The #Yankees have expressed interest in #STLCards RHP Jordan Hicks, as well as OF Dylan Carlson, per

Doesn’t qualify as a rumor, but at least it is current.

The Yankees have a few pitchers the Cardinals may be interested in: Schmidt, Beeter, and Vasquez.

The Rangers continue to bolster their pitching ranks, as ESPN’s Jeff Passan (Twitter links) reports that Texas and St. Louis have completed a trade to send Jordan Montgomery and Chris Stratton to Arlington. The Cardinals will receive left-hander John King, as well as infield prospect Thomas Saggese and right-handed pitching prospect Tekoah Roby.

It appears that the Cardinals are acquiring young pitchers with a future…that’s fine, let’s hope they pan out but it highlights the lack of a need for Arenado or Goldschmidt. Arenado is not a part of the rebuild. With fours years of service he could bring a huge haul of talent. he will never have a higher trade value than he does today or tomorrow. Get the Dodgers on the horn and get as much talent as you can get. Maybe add Goldschmidt and get even more. Keep going Mo, make me proud.
