Seems like a catcher would be open to DH once or twice a week. In the pre-DH days now and then a catcher might take a turn at first base. But obviously it depends on the guy. e>

Agree. I’m just not sure that a ‘catcher’ that cannot throw the ball withing 10 feet of the bag during a steal attempt can really be called a catcher. I wish him the best and the Cardinals the best.

I’m not ready to give up on Herrera in left field yet. It’s just that I’m not at all confident that he can throw the ball where it needs to be thrown. I’m not at all confident at that. I’d like to see some more of how he does playing left field. If he is just not cut out for the outfield, then so be it. But I want to give him some more reps before calling it a day. Love his bat and the way he stands in at the plate.

Brian. Thanks for posting the photo of Torres. It’s exactly what I was hoping for. There’s still hope for him.

Just noticed that there is no live action photo of Bryan Torres rightfully claiming the roster spot previously belonging to Brendon Donovan. Torres will surely be featured in next week’s
    WWW Walton and Reis Episode.

he one thing that bothers me about Tread Athletics is that they had Andre Pallente throwing his ‘death ball’ during his offseason a year, or so, ago. Sounded daunting. But nothing ever came of it. Hope the same this doesn’t happen to Knowles. I may have this wrong. But it seems as if the Cardinals’ signed up their own version of Tread Athletics over this past offseason. It looks like there is a trainer, a coach, conditioning guru, or some other ‘bird dog’ shadowing every player in camp. What kind of results is this going to bring?

Please comment on the next WWW Walton and Reis.

I’d sure like to hear Brian and Kyle talk about this next week.

Hoffman is just floating the idea because it might be a way for him to pick up an extra billion$ or so. The value of the franchise is down for now. But that value is going to shoot back up again as soon as the Cardinals resume their winning ways. WDWJr is a true baseball fan. He’s good for the city, good for the Cardinal fan base, and good for baseball.

Hoffman is a big blow hard. I think he just likes to see his name in print. There was all that talk about Hoffman converting so much of southeastern Misouri into wine counctry and nothing ever came of it. Ignore this nonsense.

I really enjoy the WWW and Reis, also. I enjoy Kyle’s enthusiasm and his acumen for analyzing pitches and pitch movement. This guy seems to have supervision not at all unlike Clark Kent, I’m sure. However, three weeks ago Kyle got the day off and Moises Rodrigues talked it over with BW. I like getting a glimpse into the human element of the game and I sensed Rodrigues’s joy over his recent success. He had been with the Cardinals for over twenty years, and now, the guy that hired him, John Mozeliak, was retiring. Imagine the worry and the consternation he must have felt for those two whole years. But when Bloom informed Rodrigues that he was keeping him on, think of how it must have felt. Then, on top of it, Rodrigues signed his top two international recruits, Emanuel Luna and Carlos Carion. Who knows if either of them will make it to the big time, but Rodrigues sure sounded good about the signings. And he still has another 3M$ of so to spend before the signing season ends. Moises Rodgigues sounded like he was clearly on a role. Raniel Rodrigues’ name came up. He was originally scouted for his offense primarily and possibly as a first baseman. Now they’re trying to make
him into a catcher. All we can do is wait and see how this turns out. The Cardinals’ website had him listed as ‘a stout 5’10″‘. It will be interested to see how this plays out eventually. Moises Rodriguez also mentioned Brannelli Franco as one to watch this year. His control and his velo spiked up this year to 96-98 MPH. It sounds like he’s definitely one to keep and eye on especially since he just turned 19 years old a couple of weeks ago.

If that darned BW hadn’t cast a shadow of doubt on our future right handed hitting star, Joshua Baez, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Here’s a novel idea… Since Donovan already has a GG, and since he is the closest that the Cardinals have to anchor an infield of young, mostly inexperienced players, we just keep Donovan and let him be our starting second baseman. Yes, we already have four other players that could start at second base. But none of them would fit into second base as well as Donovan. See how things look at the end of the 2026 season, and maybe offer him a 3-4 year extension.

Herrera to LF for me, also, assuming that he can throw the ball to the infielder and not 15 ft to the infielder’s right or left.

I’m so depressed that I’m thinking about finding some doctor to give me some pills. I hope the Dbacks trade you some place where you can get a ring. Looking forward to your HOF induction.

Seems to me that they at least have to give Crooks a look at the major league level. He could make a promotion difficult for Bernal.

‘it aint over till the fat lady sings’ attributed to
Dan Cook ‘On further investigation, I learned that Motta did not originate the saying. Dan Cook, a San Antonio sportcaster, did. Cook said it goes this way: ”The opera aint over till the fat lady sings.” And the ”fat lady” was not Kate Smith. Cook said his line was a takeoff on Yogi Berras line, ”The game isnt over till its over.” Further, Cook said this story is recorded in the Library of Congress and that he is bored to death with this topic already. Dear Abby: ”Inquisitive” asked: ”Why do some people go to funerals of people they hardly know? I am referring to people they don`t even have a speaking acquaintance

Whoopa. I forgot about Jenkins. He’s certainly got a few more wins in him as long as his pacemaker is functioning properly.

And lets not forget about Skip Schumaker playing all over the outfield mixed in with about a dozen seasons at second base.

The Cubs are definitely in win now mode. But what about their pitching? It looks good, but not really great. Who’s their stopper?

I am in full agreement with all of bb’s posts regarding Arenado and Donovan going to Boston. This potential trade gives Boston a multiple GG winning third baseman with the possibility of a resurgent offense from a player at the ripe old age of 34. Plus the Red Sox get a GG gamer to fill their second base need. Now if the Cardinals can get Witherspoon with only a token amount of cash going to Boston, Bloom deserves Baseball Executive of the Decade. In deference to gscottar, we have enough prospects, IMHO, unless that prospect happens to be Sloan from Seattle which seems to be all but impossible.

There doesn’t seem to be much risk with Donovan. The only question would be ‘How much better can he get?’. There’s substantial risk with any pitcher or position player that hasn’t yet reached the majors. If I had to choose between Witherspoon and Cijintje, I would take Witherspoon. He’s younger and still very projectable. After that I would probably be okay with Cijintje, although I don’t like the fact that he really is a ‘novelty pitcher’.

I still think that the Cardinals are waiting to see if Bregman signs with Boston. If Bregman doesn’t sign with Boston, then Arenado and Donovan will both be offered to Boston, IMO. The more the Cardinals pay on Arenado’s contract, the better the return in prospects from Boston.

I’ve been recording baseball’s All Time Games. And one of the games that caught my eye was the 1983 game between the Royals and the Yankees played on July 24 and finally completed on August 18, 1983. This turned out to be the game in which the famous/infamous, and now timeless, ‘pine tar incident’ occurred.

What caught my eye during the August 18 completion of the July 24 game was that Dan Quisenbury was the Royals’ closer. Quisenbury was a righthanded pitcher who threw underhanded with a pitching motion not unlike that of our own Cooper Hjerpe, but from the right side. Made me wonder what Hjerpe could accomplish as closer.

BTW, The Quiz passed in 1998 at the age of 45.
