Welcome back Norman Avocado.
And din-din on this wet Monday will be a couple of baked potatoes, some Allen’s Italian green beans, Bar-b-q chips, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and some Turkey Hill Homemade Vanilla ice cream.
I say wet Monday because it’s Sunday night as I type this and it’s been pouring and storming for a long, long time.

I would not be surprised if a fresh arm is called up tomorrow to replace Rajcic.
Maybe Gastellum for Pozo on the 40-man. Winquest is also a possibility but I don’t think he’s earned it before Gastellum. Ideally, it would be a guy who could pitch long relief, but I don’t think Dobbins is eligible yet. Same with Fernandez I think. Matthews and Mautz both just pitched. Zimmerman is the other possibility if they want a long guy but he can’t be optioned once called up and I think they’d rather keep him as an emergency starter option. Therefore, I think we see Gastellum debut tomorrow.
JJ is up to 7th in baseball in fWAR. Walker hasn’t been adding more WAR lately and has slid out of the top 30. Burly and Herrera are catching up to Walker’s 2.3 WAR as each has 1.9.
I have to admit I was wrong on Burly a few years ago. He was very GB heavy and chase prone so I didn’t think he would be a good regular. But Burly has been consistently improving his weaknesses each year and he is smashing the ball.
Taking a gander at the meteorological conditions for tonight’s upcoming clash with the DBacks.
As I type this all is clear in the St. Louis area according to the Doppler Radar. There is, however, a big pile of green stuff south of the metro St. Louis area. It appears to be heading either east or NE so it should miss St. Louis.
I hope it doesn’t head towards us here in SW Indiana. We had around five inches last night and there is flooding in the area.

feels like early spring out there today even though its overcast. speaking of overcast. got a feeling that the season is about to go south for the Birdos. each time they approach .500 they really. I don’t think they can out-slug their pitiful starting pitching and horrible pen. I am probably wrong, but that weekend in KC was eye opening involving the starters performances.
Arenado is probably going to tee off on the Cards and I think we will lose 2 of 3. With the Cubs in Wrigley and games against the Braves and Brew Crew…we will be sellers come mid-July. It was fun while it lasted. Lets just hope they finish not too far below .500. Go Cards!
Yeah, that upcoming head to head matchup at home vs. the Brewers is a rare 5 game series that includes a double header on July 7 to make up a washout. In all probability, those 5 baseball games will be the so called defining moment for the ’26 Cardinal edition.
And oh, all die-hard Redbird fans should take note that the 5th and final game of that Cardinal/Brewer series is Harry Potter night…I fully expect a rowdy and raucous SRO crowd for that one!
The Cardinals are 5-0 in Pallante’s last 5 turns and he’s been the winning pitcher of decision in 4 of those 5 turns. Not at all sure those two facts mean anything, but if I were foolish enough to wager on baseball, I’d call in a dollar or two on the D-backs.

Rajcic generally has a rubber arm so he may be able to go 2 or 3 innings despite pitching over an inning yesterday. We used 7 of 8 yesterday though.

The pitching couldn’t be more of a disaster than yesterday.
I mean the long-term affects. Pitching guys on back-to-back days typically means they need a couple days off to recover. That means every reliever we use tonight not named Bruihl won’t be available Tuesday or Wednesday. Some could be optioned out though. But then they have to stay in Memphis for 15 days unless there’s an injury.
Just back after a whirlwind 3 day trip to beautiful Door County to attend my 3rd wedding of 2016. Last year I went to 6 of them, but only have one more slated for this year(August), so I won’t be topping 2025 matrimonials this year.
Anyway, Arenado is going to be out to club the daylights out of us……let’s not let him beat us. Any word on any “Gassy” (Gastelum) sightings yet? We need him up here pronto! Pivotal series. A poor showing in this 4 game series and I’ll agree with “Honest” AbeRosa’s sentiments about us being sellers next month. I’m calling it 6-3 Birds tonight with Walker getting off the proverbial power schneid by launching a tape measure 2 run blast well up into the cheap seats.
My din-din tonight won’t garner any blue ribbon attention, but what the heck. It’ll be 2 Oscer Meyer beef bologna sandwiches. One with yellow mustard and the other with Duke’s mayo. I’ll also be munching on some Gerkin’s sweet pickles and potato chips dipped into sour cream. No dessert tonight, gang, as the ol’ Pugsaronias is watching the widening waistline get downsized a smidgen on this fine Monday evening.
And we’d be terribly remiss in not acknowledging Rat’s continued meteorological excellence. Thanks a million for all that you do for us, Rat!
I’m well aware that they do things a bit different today, but Whitey worked Bruce Sutter 3 consecutive days on numerous occasions. And even more numerous were the occasions he worked Bruce 2 or even 3 full innings in the successful pursuit of a SV. And I can’t count the times I’ve see good SP’ers feature a particularly lousy turn when working on an extra days rest. It was once very common and easy to see that a SP’er not only seemed to get sharper, but also stronger as his pitch count increased during the latter 3 innings of a baseball game. In any case, I’m entirely convinced that you have to spin up the crank to keep these guys dialed in and fine tuned.
I think I’ll stay up for the first inning or two to see where we’re going before struggling off to the feathers.
Din-din was cold cantaloupe followed by lasagne, green salad and strawberries.
Wetherholt just keeps hitting. If he continues to swing the bat, he’ll score 100 runs in his rookie season.
I’m all for moving the baserunner up, but I don’t understand giving up an out with a sac-bunt in the 2nd unless you travel back in time and Al Leiter’s standing in.
