1TD, confidence is the key and Liberatore and Gorman don’t have it. I always hated the cocky kids on the team growing up but part of the reason they were good is because they thought they were not doubting themselves at all.

Liberatore lost his composure when Walker let that bloop fall in. He’s been around too long to be losing it.

He misplaces his composure as soon as he’s staked to any sort of lead.

Libbies ERA is now 5.66. With the hope that Dobbins enters the rotation moving forward, what do you do with him? Bullpen? Memphis? Trade for a box of sunflower seeds?

Yeah, Albert, it’s blatantly obvious by the downcast look on his face and the overall body language that he displays while he’s working on the mound that he doesn’t trust in his ability to make a pitch. And the hitters can clearly see that.

That’s a nice looking Wilson IF’ers mitt on Whetherholt’s glove hand. I also like the way he let everyone know to keep out of his way and let him handle that pop-up.

Ouch…Dobbins not any better for Memphis today. 4 earned runs in 4 innings.
Also Gorman now 1-9 with 6 strikeouts.

I’m reasonably certain about one thing…If Liberatore’s ever traded to Philadelphia, the Phillies probably won’t allow him to retain jersey #32.

Even if Liby is removed from the rotation, we still need the depth. I have no confidence Dobbins would be better.

Man, Herrera is sloooow. On the dribbler past the mound I was thinking, “no way they can get him..” Then saw he was still two steps from the bag when the guy got the ball. Sheesh.

Hope he’s not hurt on that awkward last step.

When Libby took #32 this year I was hoping it was a good sign – a fulfilling at least to some degree of what might have been.

Opening day starter, was supposed to break out.

I had high hopes too. He has a good repertoire of pitches. He just seems to break down in big moments and has never really solidified control to where he needs it. Tonight he got hurt by multiple middle middle pitches.

He turns in a nice one often enough to keep hope alive, but hope don’t last forever.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him make a pitch when it was crucial that he do so, Jnevel. Many times I’ve seen him working with a 2 or 3 run lead and as soon as someone reaches base he seems to refuse to come at the ensuing hitters with any authority. Before you know it he begins to aim his pitches and it’s time for the sadness and sorrow.

The Cardinals and Cubbies are now tied for 2nd place at 7 off the pace in the NLC after the Cubs take both games of a twin bill from the Mets in NY. Meanwhile, the Dodgers continue to bulldoze through the rest of the league with another W and best W/L record in the game, the Phillies have pulled to within 5 games of the Braves and the dark horse Astros are only 2.5 games back of the Mariners in the ALW. I’m staying with all my early season gypsy fortune teller ’26 division winner picks consisting of the Brewers, Dodgers, Phillies, Yankees, Astros and Indians. Gypsies don’t waste the power of their crystal balls on WC’s…

Per Wednesday’s With Walton and Reis, Kyle thinks Hjerpe may be the top ranked prospect in the organization. The trouble is that he’s only been throwing 20 pitches per outing so far. Kyle thinks Hjerpe will be up to 40 pitches in about a month. So after 2, or maybe 3 innings, it becomes a bullpen gme.

Every time we see Matthew Liberatore in a Cardinals uniform it’s a reminder of how terrible John Mozeliak was at the backend of his career in St. Louis.

Hjerpe may be the top ranked prospect in the organization.

Health risk and proximity risk are hard to quantify and get swept under the carpet. His entire pro career consists of 100 innings, virtually none above A level. Advanced hitters are not going to be so perplexed by the delivery, so I think Hjerpe is more of a lottery ticket than a top prospect at this point. He did just go 30 pitches by the way.
