He’d have near doubled those #’s and led the team to a couple of WS championships in a Cardinal uniform…It’s the intangibles.

June 29, 2026 at 12:35 am #311365And think of all the fun he and his sidekick Yadier would have had for all those years. Once again, it’s the intangibles that almost always intercede.
June 29, 2026 at 3:32 pm #311393It wouldn’t surprise me if Mo has Randy Flores on his list to be the next permanent Angels GM.
June 29, 2026 at 3:40 pm #311394If ever he could uncover any clues to his whereabouts, I was wondering if he’d choose the guy with the nice curly hair who was once in charge of replenishing office supplies…Or, on the flip side of coin, maybe the reason he’s gone into hiding is that he doesn’t at all want the job…Has there even been a sighting of this guy in the last couple of years?
June 29, 2026 at 3:43 pm #311395He was very visible on the back fields this spring. We always said hello, but I have no idea what his duties are.
June 29, 2026 at 4:40 pm #311400Haha…That’s him! And he looks to be entirely safe and sound…However, I can’t help but to notice that the Redbird manager along with the six or seven Cardinal players in the photo seem to be avoiding him. Oh well, maybe they owe him money…In any case, I’m happy to learn of his welfare.
June 29, 2026 at 5:05 pm #311402I’m not at all one of these conspiracy guys, but I have to concede that I’m a bit suspicious and skeptical by nature. With that out of the way, I’m beginning to lean on a theory that postulates that, with the possible exception of team owner Willie Jr, this guy they term the “GM” is, in reality, the primary power broker in the Cardinal hierarchy…My acute baseball intuition tells me that Johnny was forcibly nudged out of the picture by this notoriously stealth and mysterious GM and that it was his decision to replace him by the one we all know as, Bloom. And do you think for a minute that Willie Jr. is going to hand over the reins to his boy as was claimed in that staged PR release a couple of days ago? This kid obviously knows not a thing about the game of baseball, nor is he at all interested in having all that hard work placed on his delicate shoulders…No, it almost has to be the furtive and mysterious one with the attractive curly hair that’s genuinely at the helm of the Redbird ship…

ParticipantBrian, i dont know what hindsight you are talking about when saying they were wise. Being wise doesnt always make you right. He had good numbers the following 5 years and like others said, intangibles and situations create different scenarios. But let say i give you that. Pujols earned that money the years he chose to give the cardinals a break with his previous contract. Plus the cardinals gave lots of money to players that never deserved it nor earned it, so i would rather pujols have gotten it, he earned it. The cardinals at one time prob might have been wise to get rid of musial based on some figures but they didnt and their organization was and is better because that didnt happen.
June 29, 2026 at 6:06 pm #311405He certainly knows how to look out of place.
June 29, 2026 at 6:15 pm #311406Haha…That’s an age old Indian trick. Hiding in plain sight by looking as conspicuous as is possible. He’s a sly one…
Edit…After another close look it occurred to me that he appears to be waiting on his turn in the water closet. That’s exactly what I’m driving at. It’s extremely difficult to get an accurate read on this guy…

June 29, 2026 at 6:46 pm #311409Maybe his job is to keep it tidy.
June 29, 2026 at 8:47 pm #3114141982 willie, you have a right to disagree, but your opinion is very likely in the minority. For example, the ESPN article (link posted earlier) includes the Pujols contract with the Angels (10 years for a 31-year-old(?) plus 10 years more at $1 MM per year) as one of the worst deals in MLB history. Not my opinion, but that of an unbiased outside observer.
Here is an MLB.com article by Will Leitch that speculates via various scenarios what could have happened if Albert stayed. It seems very balanced.
Among the conclusions are that the team wouldn’t have been able to afford keeping Waino and Yadi for their entire careers.

June 29, 2026 at 9:31 pm #311416I’ve seen the Yadier and Adam thing too, and it may or may not be the case. I’m just a lowly baseball fan, so I’ll never know the precise circumstances.
June 29, 2026 at 11:34 pm #311423My acute baseball intuition tells me that Johnny was forcibly nudged out of the picture
It definitely looks as though Mo was forced out.
June 30, 2026 at 4:27 pm #311476I hate to think of Yadi in any uniform but a Cardinals uniform. But I think it’s inevitable that he’s going to be wearing another uniform someday soon. Given the circumstances the Angels now seem most likely.
June 30, 2026 at 5:03 pm #311478I dunno. Mo knows both the plusses and minuses that come with Yadi.
June 30, 2026 at 7:23 pm #311499Yeah, you wonder if Albert ends up taking the reigns in Orange County.
I was in our local Lowe’s yesterday and a guy had an old school Angels hat on – it was the original style with the interlocking “LA”, two tone with the halo on top. I told the guy I think that is still their best cap design and they should go back to those.
