This is the place to share and discuss any news items about ex-Cardinals.
August 8, 2024 at 4:17 pm #263513Eddie Vedder has a home less than a mile from Wrigley. Coincidentally, one of my best friends lives right next door. I’ve been there, but never met Eddie. He has a performing stage built on the roof of his garage. Anyway, he likes Waino, though not as much as the Cubs.
One of the all time best retirement gifts just arrived in the mail. Courtesy of someone I would have never expected! @Cubs @eddievedder #ianhappstillknockingitoutofthepark pic.twitter.com/ay4u8Z9RFS

jj-cf-stlParticipantWainwright is singing this weekend in Washington, Mo. Saturday at the City Fair.
August 8, 2024 at 5:35 pm #263517Kniz got picked up by the D-Backs. Going to 3A
August 8, 2024 at 5:47 pm #263519BTW, we mentioned Flaherty going to the Dodgers recently, and I had commented that I saw him pitch for Detroit in Cleveland in late July. His catcher that night was Carson Kelly.

cardsfan64ParticipantAnyone hear anything about Alex Reyes? I thought he would be back from injury by now and trying to hook up with any team. The last I saw he was a free agent. So much talent, but couldn’t stay on the field very long.
August 10, 2024 at 8:13 am #263731My guess is that Reyes will never be back from injury. Too bad.
August 10, 2024 at 8:14 am #263732Matt Bowman, RHP with Twins, is exercising his opt out clause. Has 1.37 ERA over 29.2 innings with 33Ks and 1.01 WHIP in St. Paul and since moving to 3B side of rubber a 0 ERA over 8.2 IP with 11 Ks. The Twins have until Monday to add him to MLB roster or release him.

August 11, 2024 at 9:50 am #263903Wow, haven’t thought about Matt Bowman for awhile.
Man, a real shame that Reyes was so derailed by injuries. He had a half season of success as our closer, and then once again the injuries came in to play.
Maybe a bit of a latter day Herb Score – tons of talent but a twist of fate resulted in a “what if?” Scenario. (My tablet won’t let me use a lower case “s”)
Score had more success, and really got a tough break. But Alex looked to be finally on his way there for a few months.

ParticipantThatsva heck of a gift waino got. Love eddie vedder though finding out hes a cubs fan knocks him down a little.
August 12, 2024 at 5:40 pm #263996Ocampo was with the #stlcards in scouting and the Dominican academy admin from 2005-2009. After time with MLB, he worked for Jeff Luhnow in Houston. https://t.co/6VIoaoGIrQ

August 13, 2024 at 1:58 pm #264085Reaching Ten Years of Service Time is an incredible milestone… but doing so on your birthday is next level.
Congratulations, @RGrich15! Celebrate double today. @Dbacks pic.twitter.com/KsOIJQLZV3

August 14, 2024 at 9:11 am #264199I would love to have O’Campo back in the organization. I had some email exchanges with him back in the day and he couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful
August 14, 2024 at 11:59 am #264221I had positive experiences with him, as well. Not sure how many more AGMs they need, though… They already have three plus Girsch, who in my view is more of a super-AGM. Banks and vice presidents come to mind…
August 15, 2024 at 4:44 pm #264411I’ve been sitting there when a media member has a hot topic he wants to write about so he badgers the manager with the same questions repeatedly. it can get pretty uncomfortable. The best part here is when the writer asks Shildt if it would have been better if he’d had a 5-0 lead…

August 15, 2024 at 5:04 pm #264412The proper question would have been, “What did you think of Kingman’s performance?”
August 17, 2024 at 7:37 am #264582The Houston Astros released Aledmys Diaz.

August 17, 2024 at 8:45 am #264591A laugh for the day…
Legit heartwarming when you drop into a Reddit thread about Brad Lidge working on his archeology degree to make a joke and found someone has already posted it #stlcards pic.twitter.com/7Ge4vyYAm2

August 17, 2024 at 8:24 pm #264672I’m Indianapolis at the in-laws this weekend and went to the Indians game. Gallegos pitched for St. Paul. He had some velocity back it looked like, command still was spotty. DH for Indian’s was Malcolm Nunez.
August 19, 2024 at 7:03 pm #264845More small sample on Dylan Carlson – his OPS+ as a Ray is now 161, and he got the game winning hit for them last night, batting left handed even.
Way too soon to tell if he has turned the corner, but give a younger player with skills some confidence, and who knows.
August 19, 2024 at 8:03 pm #264853Here’s the thing about Carlson. He’s a good player all around. Solid bat to ball skills. Some limited power. Average defense. He could have easily been a 3 WAR player for the Cardinals. The problem was that every time the Cardinals had an opening for him to play, he was either hurt or got hurt soon after. And every time he was healthy, the Cardinals had moved on to someone else. At times they buried him for no good reason. I’m not sure he’ll ever be an all-star, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him have 3 or 4 seasons in a row as a slightly better than average player.
August 19, 2024 at 8:25 pm #264858Edman making his Dodger debut tonight, batting 9th playing CF. Had a good 6 games at AAA before tonight.
August 19, 2024 at 8:33 pm #264859Edman was assigned #25 for LAD, last worn by Kolten Wong last year.
August 22, 2024 at 2:29 pm #265202Matt Bowman brought up by the O’s
Hayward DFA by Dodgers.
August 22, 2024 at 5:16 pm #265219Jason Hayward collected $210M primarily because of the hype he received. Collecting that kind of money, and extending his career so long, tend to devalue player evaluation and scouting in general, IMO. There are some parallels between Hayward and a current Cardinal, IMO.
