The losses are starting to mount up as we regress more towards our expected record. Let’s hope we can rebound and find the magic again, although this downward trend is not surprising.

To that point, their Pythagorean W/L is 39-40 vs. the actual of 42-37.

For all the noise about the influence of the Tarps Off group, the Cards have a poorer home record (.524) than road (.541).

With the Saturday loss, the Cardinals are fourth in the three-team wild card race. And they could end today in fifth if Miami wins again.

For what its worth, my daughter says the tarps off crowd has gotten “flabbier”.

It appears so, but these guys sure gave us nearly a half season of fun inspiring baseball. However, Bloom can’t be too upset if the team continues it’s decline. If the team had continued winning, there’s no way he could have turned his back on the players and coaches by trading some of them away. He would have been the most hated man in St. Louis since Bowtie Bill Bidwell skipped town for Arizona with his team in tow.

The meteorological conditions look good for this one. Nary a green spot in sight. However, the heat is going to be there as this could be one of the hottest weeks of the summer this year. Fortunately the Redbirds will be on the road for the rest of the week after today.

Now the Cubs and Brewers in Milwaukee have a big swatch of rain and storms headed their way later this afternoon. I suspect the roof will be closed at County Stadium.

And din-din today is the usual Sunday feast. A ribeye steak in the air fryer coated with olive oil, A1 sauce, and some Montreal Steak seasoning. Some jumbo crinkle cut french fries, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, a piece of Angel Food cake and a big bowl of Turkey Hill Homemade Vanilla ice cream.

p.s. I still think this is a Must win today.

I’ve gotten to where I prefer seeing Pages behind the plate so we are not just giving away SBs. It is still likely we will give away at least one base from a ball getting past a knee down catcher that wouldn’t have gotten by a traditional catcher. We just saw one the other day, I think it was Crooks that time. Back when the knee down style was just showing up, it was never employed with a runner on base nor with two strikes on the batter, but it was a slippery slope.

This year’s edition has yet to suffer more than 4 consecutive L’s. Today’s game will be the 4th time this season that they’ve been faced with the dismal prospect of losing 5 consecutive games, so we’ll see if the kids can prevent the proverbial ship from taking on any more water. I’d have to say that the angle of list is getting precarious.

Check that…Today’s game will only be the 3rd time this season that the Cardinals will try to dodge losing 5 consecutive games. Things are looking up already…Haha!

Realsim has started to sink in as this team now resembles what we feared it would like. As Pugs mentioned they did give us a half season of inspired baseball. I also agree that if they continue to sink it does take the heat off of Bloom as he can continue with the rebuild properly without too much blow back. This decline might end up being a blessing in disguise because we are going to acquire even more nice prospects and be that much stronger for 2027 and 2028.

If our playoff dreams do end up vanishing for 2026 I will continue with my ABC mantra (Anyone But Cubs).

    Go Crew!

It’ll be jungle boogie out there on the field today. I took a little stroll around the yard a bit ago and I felt like I’d been placed into the Belgian Congo.

Leahy so far walked 3 in two innings but no runs. 46 pitches to get through those 2 innings.

Torres spanked one. 2-0 good guys.

The Torres 2 run tater give the Cardinals the early lead. That’s a nice response to adversity.

The Marlins hijack 2 extra base hits to prevent at least another run. Maybe they’ll miss a couple later on.

Leahy settled in after the first two innings. 74 pitches through 4 and he seems to be rolling along.

Leahy had donated 3 BB’s but hadn’t allowed a hit until the lead-off 5th inning double which prompted me to check and be reminded that the record for most BB’s while achieving a no-no is 10. Those came during a 10 inning no hitter from Jim Maloney of the ’65 Reds in a 1-0 W over the Cubbies at Wrigley. He later worked another no hitter in a 10-0 Red’s W over the Astros in ’69. In ’65 Maloney also no hit the Mets for 10 innings. He took the L in that game when he allowed a lead-off 11th inning HR in a 1-0 Mets W. He K’d 18 Mets in that game. That’s baseball for you.

Edit…At the time Maloney worked the 10 inning no hit L, the rules allowed for it to be placed into the books as an official no-no. That rule was later amended to omit no hitters that were broken up in extra innings, so poor Jim is credited with only 2 career no hitters. Such is life…

I guess a solid 5 inning start is nothing to complain about these days. If we only had some hitters.

Boy, oh boy. Took a nap at 3B with 1 out. I’m always reminded of Holliday in game 6.

After starting the leadoff man 3-0. Potatoes O’Brien sets them all down and we win.

The Bogsider from Derry with a genuine no room to move high pressure SV to seal the W! We’re right back in the hunt for a 12th WS championship…
