Why the dislike of Zimmerman? Hasn’t he pitched the most innings of any AAA Cardinal? He may not be part of the future, but filling a need. With all the injuries Memphis has with starting pitching, I feel like he is filling a void right now. When some starters get healthy, he might be expendable if they need roster space.
Cards24, I just don’t see a need to keep starting Zimmerman. Molina has had the most solid season at Springfield, including 13 1/3 scoreless innings. Zimmerman could still be in the rotation, or moved to long relief, at least until Hendersons returns. In fact, I think Molina has been our best pitcher in the minors. He’s pitched over half a season, and IMO doesn’t have any more to prove at AA.
Over a long season, depth always comes into play. The Cards are especially thin in pitching at the upper levels. No reason to jettison a productive arm. When Player Development believes Molina is ready for Triple-A, they will find a way for him to be there, which they could easily do without releasing Zimmermann.
At AA we have 5 college arm type starters that look like they can handle a starters load and all in the top 30 per the Cardinals.MLB official site. Doyle (1), Cijntje (4), Lin (24), Davis (26), and Molina (29). There are also several top 30 pitchers just behind at Peoria. There are also Clarke and Hjerpe in the top 30 and working their way back.
I am most familiar with the 5 at AA, and all look like promising developing starters. It is worth remembering that they are Texas League pitchers facing Texas League hitters and I caution against extrapolating in a straight line because from here on none of them will progress in a straight line. It is an encouraging situation, and rather than pick one to beat a drum for I choose to watch and wait and root for them all.
I also want to mention Brandt Thompson. He is a low round draft pick who gets jerked around like Savacool, but not to that extreme. I wish, instead of viewing him as an expendable pitcher who can be ground up in the name of organizational need, they would make him a pure reliever and leave him in the AAA pen and see what happens. We need to develop pen arms too.
Fair point, but there is a decent chance than two or three of the five will eventually end up relieving as the pyramid narrows. There is a hierarchy and Thompson is rightfully in a tier below them. No matter how he is used, if his pitches are good enough, he will find his way.
Zimmerman reminds me of Curtis Taylor from last year in that he is a journeyman depth piece who can give you some quality innings. Frankly I would have liked to have given Taylor a shot in STL last year and the same goes for Zimmerman this year. Let them eat some big league innings while the true prospects continue to season.
There is no comparison between Zimmerman and Taylor. ZZimmerman has MLB experience, and sucked, but Taylor has not. I am wondering how TTaylor has done overseas.
Zimmerman is a filler. He is an inning eater who sucks. If it wasn’t for Henderson being hurt, he wouldn’t have a job.
Zimmerman has MOB experience. To the tune of 40 games and a 5.60 era. Taylor was never given a chance. He is not pitching well in the KBO either this year.

For me it has been as if Mason Molina came out of nowhere. So I decided to look up his history and post what I found in case there are others wondering where the Cardinals got him.
Mason Molina came from the Rangers in a trade for Phil Maton at last year’s (2025) trade deadline. So he’s been with the Cardinals for a little less than a year. Maton was a very good reliever for the Cardinals and was just as good for the Rangers. Along with Mason Molina the Cardinals got Skylar Hales who is now is at Memphis and not showing much, 1-2 with 7.71 era and 1.98 whip. Mason Molina, OTOH, just got promoted to Memphis after impressing at Springfield. He was at the Rangers low A team when we got him, then finished the rest of 2025 at the Cardinals high A team in Peoria. In 2026, after only pitching 21 innings at Peoria in 2025, the Cardinals promoted him directly to AA Springfield, where he pitched 69 innings this year, 2026, before now getting promoted to Memphis. He turns 23 years old this coming July 8.
Happy to see the promotion. I was probably second highest on this board on Molina after gscottar. I was hoping they would draft him out of college, but getting him in a trade for a reliever is almost better.
Does Molinas promotion mean Fajardo may be on his way to Springfield?

If I had a crystal ball I’d say that May won’t be on our team next year, if there is a next. I would also say Pallantes is gone as well. I hope Andre like May and Nootbaar that they do well so we can hrs valuable trade chips for them. Liberatore could be moved also.
