A person would think you have really poor reading comprehension if that’s all you got out of that article. But I know better.
Your vision and memory are faulty, then. DeJong was never a top 100 prospect in baseball, let alone top five like Wetherholt. In fact, DeJong wasn’t even in the Cardinals system top 10. His best ranking on BA’s Cardinals list was no. 14 in 2017. In DeJong’s defense, he turned out to be better than many, many fourth-rounders.
I’m just commenting on how wrapped up in the analytics and biomechanics he seems to be. Maybe no one else remembers a couple interviews DeJong gave back when he was trying to pull out of his tailspin. Hopefully the same won’t happen to JJ, but he is way too deep in it as far as I am concerned.

You are going to make me go back and re read the article. I didn’t get that.
Like you said, you can identify stuff that you’re not great at and try to find ways to address it. I think a lot of teams get super geared up to just look at that type of stuff, that they can kind of lose what makes a player a player, if that makes sense. You get so caught up in, “I don’t do this well or I need to get better at this,” and then you get away from yourself.

I do not suppose Wetherholt to be intellectually above other prospects of the last decade, and I would suppose nearly all of them were smart enough to seek balance. The system producing a ML impact player or two for the Cardinals roster is what will open my mind, not an interview, and certainly not one doting on how wonderous the analytics is.
But interviews conducted by the media are the team’s primary source for all of the hyperbole that leads to marketing success. They may be more important than what happens during the competition that takes place on the field of play…If the interview is a good one, he’s either worked a shutout or hit for the cycle.
I dont care about interviews. When i see him on the major league field, thats when i will care. I dont know how hes doing down on the farm though i know you can check such stuff. My thought however is we have had more than a few players who have excelled there but didnt really pan out big time in mlb. I always found a old interview with pete rose interesting. I usually thought he was pretty baseball smart but in this case i didnt agree. He said it was easier to hit in the majors than it was in the mi nors mainly cause the backdrops in the mlb are much better for hitting. The evidence ive seen with cardinal minor leaguers doesnt support such stuff. So until weatherholt performs well in tbe majors, ill wait to get excited.

You know, I thought it was a nice article to share about our #6 nationally ranked prospect. Sorry to have insulted you and others by trying to start an upbeat thread about the team rather than whine and complain about the things that have gone wrong. I will go elsewhere.
I greatly prefer optimism and hope over pessimism and negativity, also. My optimism and hope turns out to be misguided at times (and I don’t want to call out the players that come to mind). But I still prefer anticipating success to expecting failure. And I’m not saying I’m Pollyanna about everything. It’s just that I reject the constant cynicism. It all boils down to a conscious choice.

What’s going on with him?”After an unbelievably blistering start to his AAA time, he’s cooled off some. But his overall Memphis batting line is still fantastic.
If we prorate his one-month performance to 156 games (an eccentric number, I know, but the math is easier), we get this: .297 average, 39 doubles, 6 triples, 52 homers, 97 RBI, 149 runs scored, 91 walks.
I didn’t see much to fret about in the interview. When it comes to hitting, the kid seems to embrace the cerebral side of things — so did Mike Schmidt and Ted Williams, among others — but I did NOT get the sense that he’s been swept up in the exit velocity/launch angle nonsense that’s contaminated many organizations (not unlike how the velocity/movement fixation has infected pitching development).
Here’s hoping he spends the next 8-10 years as Masyn Winn’s double play partner, starting on Opening Day, 2026.

Not exactly. Since his first game at 3B nine games ago, Wetherholt has four games at short, four at third and one at second base.

I would love to see him in St. Louis this year as much as anybody, but it just doesn’t make sense because of the 40 Man roster. Keep him off of it until they can add people to the 60 day IL in spring training, and then sign him to one of those “pre-major league deals” that buys out a couple of after arbitration seasons would be a perfect world.

You left out the bolded part. It gives it a completely different meaning. That was convienent on your part for whatever your agenda is. Common technique in today’s journalism.
