What do you think? Would you have traded O’Neill or Bader for Wheeler for the remainder of 2019? (Not clear if those “10 or 11 starts” included the playoffs.)

If the Cardinals could expand the trade to include Diaz, I would be willing to part with Bader. I know we would have to include more to get Diaz also. I would have to think about a trade of Wheeler for Bader straight up. Most likely, I would do it.

I’d have done Bader for Wheeler. If anything to try to keep the guys’ arms in the bullpen from falling off. Maybe Wheeler could have been resigned with a “try before you buy”

I don’t trade Bader or O’Neil for 11 starts from Kershaw.

    Talk about overvaluing your assets.

Jackson made 12 starts with a 3.58 ERA – and went on to make four more starts in the post-season.

Not exactly a good look for Mo. In my experience when you’re afraid of failing and that fear paralyzes you it usually ends up with you failing.

I’m not upset with trading Gyorko. I honestly expected him to be traded in the offseason anyway or for the Cardinals to buy him out. However, doing nothing because you’re afraid of failing scream red flags.

Management needed to add a quality pitcher and they failed to do so.

I loved that Rasmus trade. How sad is is that I don’t think Mo would make that move nowadays.

    Reminder from last off-season.

“It’s not like, ‘Oh, we better win the division next year or we’re going to turn everything upside down.’ That’s not our view. I think that’s a dangerous approach because then you put people in position going all-in as the model…” – Bill DeWitt Jr. 10/4/18

BHC, it certainly appears that the dynamics between the manager and front office in 2011 were very different than today.

I wouldn’t trade O’Neill or Bader for Wheeler. I don’t like rentals. Like Forsch said if Diaz had been in the deal then we could make something happen.

I think the FO has lost it’s fastball. They’re scared to act.

I was going to write: there’s a sheet of thin ice outside the FO doors. I’m sure that they can see it, but hey we are tied for first so I didn’t.

How about some enthusiasm for this team. No help from trades? No problem. We have as good a chance as any other team to win our division. And we are at the top without a real All-Star… what other team can say that? GO CARDS.

When Ozuna comes back it’ll be like we made a trade.
