Kim, 31, had a 2.51 ERA and 180/38 K/BB in 190 1/3 innings this past season in South Korea. 2.98 ERA in 2018. https://t.co/DzafY1dXVH

December 16, 2019 at 8:41 pm #116942More posts from Yoo’s Twitter timeline. He is a Korean reporter.
Kim in '18, 1st season back from TJS: 136 IP. 2.98 ERA. 4.16 FIP. 8.60 K/9 (career high). 1.99 BB/9. 23.5 K%. 5.4 BB%. 1.14 WHIP (career best) Then in 2019: 190 1/3 IP. 2.51 ERA. 3.01 FIP. 8.51 K/9. 1.80 BB/9 (career best). 22.9 K%. 4.8 BB%. 1.24 WHIP. You're welcome 😆

Seriously, just not sure how his stuff will translate to MLB. Already close to 1,700 innings on that Tommy John-ed left arm. FWIW, Hyun-Jin Ryu joined the Dodgers after 1,269 IP in KBO. Broke down in Year 3 in MLB. Ryu also had Tommy John in Korea before MLB move.

A story I did earlier on him. https://t.co/skrlFQyAE3 . Been a top-rated starter in KBO for more than a decade. Throws fastball and slider, mostly.

The Cardinals have emerged as a team interested in #KBO LHP Kwang-Hyun Kim, sources tell my colleagues at @YonhapNews. Kim as posted on Dec. 5, and deadline to sign a deal is 5 p.m. (ET) on Jan. 5. #STLCards #mlb #posting

Here's part of the @longenhagen section on Kwang Hyun Kim, rumored to be signing with the Cardinals. More here: https://t.co/5ENIkp29d4 pic.twitter.com/GejPq6yEQQ

December 16, 2019 at 9:11 pm #116946Cheap rotation insurance in case Carlos and Waino can’t cut it?
December 16, 2019 at 9:45 pm #116949Who gets removed from the 40 man roster? Ravelo?
December 16, 2019 at 9:53 pm #116950He may help out of the bullpen. I don’t view him as a starting option against big league hitters. They are shopping in the 75% off discount bin again.
December 16, 2019 at 10:00 pm #116952Rosenthal’s source agrees…
Source confirms report below, says two sides still addressing some issues. #STLCards working to make deal happen. https://t.co/LlABQaJuuG

December 17, 2019 at 12:34 am #116959More of Mo’s low-hanging fruit.

ParticipantWith posting fee he won’t be cheap. Not in favor of this.
December 17, 2019 at 2:00 am #116961Mo will call him our big move and he’ll probably end up like Cecil sadly…or Fowler…or…well there’s to many to count at this point…
December 17, 2019 at 5:15 am #116962I like the idea, guys. The one thing the Cards have gotten really right in free agency over the past few years is their evaluations of Far East talent.
Over the past two seasons, you know how many MLB starters have thrown as many innings as Lizard King Miles Mikolas, with as low an ERA? Here’s the entire list:
Max Scherzer, Gerrit Cole, Justin Verlander, Jacob DeGrom, Zack Greinke, Aaron Nola, Patrick Corbin, and Trevor Bauer. Since arriving in St. Louis, Mikolas has thrown more innings, and posted a lower ERA, than Strasburg, Wheeler, Syndergaard, Bumgarner, and Hamels. Nice group to be better than.
And for the two years that Final Boss Seunghwan Oh pitched out of the Redbird bullpen, here’s the list of all MLB relievers who posted a lower ERA with as many innings pitched: Brad Brach, Addison Reed, Chris Devenski, Brad Hand, and Hector Neris. That’s it. Five relievers across all of baseball.
Over those same two seasons, here are some bullpenners who threw fewer innings than Final Boss, with a worse ERA: Dellin Betances, Roberto Osuna, Edwin Diaz, Ken Giles, Jeremy Jeffress, and Kelvin Herrera.

If the Cardinals like Kim, then I like Kim. Only thing I don’t like? He lacks a cool nickname.
December 17, 2019 at 6:53 am #116963I like the idea, guys. The one thing the Cards have gotten really right in free agency over the past few years is their evaluations of Far East talent.
I thought about this too, Bob. They usually make good calls on the guys they find in Asia. If they see him as a good investment, I’d guess that he will end up being a useful player for the Cards.
December 17, 2019 at 8:47 am #116975If he can help in whatever role the Cards use him in and doesn
t cost a bunch then whats not to like? Jeeze people I am as frustrated about the lack of action by the FO also but I don
t see the point in ripping every move the FO is trying to do.The season is still a ways off..so the sky isn`t falling yet.As I stated before I still expect some more signings like a Kohl Stewart,Tommy Milone,Drew Smly types.December 17, 2019 at 8:51 am #116976Sometimes the deals you don’t make are the best ones. The Cardinals believe in building a team on developing your own talent first.
December 17, 2019 at 9:23 am #116977Here is the Cards BIG move of the offseason…ugh…..low hanging fruit…
December 17, 2019 at 10:04 am #116982I will withhold judgement until I see what the financial terms are. Since most scouts seem to be pegging him as a a number 3 starter at best and a bullpen option at worst then I would hope we aren’t spending a fortune on this guy. From what I have read he seems to be on par as a Wade Miley type, who just signed a 2 year $15m deal with the Reds.
December 17, 2019 at 10:12 am #116984Coincidentally, when returning to the US, Mikolas got two years, $15.5 million. There was no posting fee involved. Still, I’d be surprised if it takes that much to sign Kim. I guess we will see soon enough…
December 17, 2019 at 12:41 pm #116992I am more interested in the transaction to open the roster. It appears the left-handed starter market moved with Ryu too something (risky, expensive, long), and Keuchel too mediocre.
I am worried we will force the wrong trade or simply release an asset. I think this is why there is no announced deal.December 17, 2019 at 1:31 pm #116993#cardinals left San Diego encouraged about deal with lefty Kim, and out to finalize this week. Recent deals I’m told give us a sense of where the contract landed — recent signings have been $5m/2 yr and $9m/3 for Lindblom and #Brewers. https://t.co/4Qvm3zTtWz

December 17, 2019 at 1:49 pm #116994If the deal is for $3-5M a year, it would seem to be a pretty good bargain find for the team. Even if he were to be a reliever he’d still be economical. It’ll be interesting to see what the exact numbers are.
December 17, 2019 at 2:08 pm #116995How are they opening up a 40 man spot?
December 17, 2019 at 2:50 pm #117004Doesn't everyone have a reaction article to the #stlcards adding Korean LHP Kwang-Hyun Kim? Yeah, me too! (free) https://t.co/VzOBJIulsD pic.twitter.com/jJJOzOmPpB
— Brian Walton (@B_Walton) December 17, 2019
December 17, 2019 at 3:57 pm #117020Goold says the deal is two years, $8 million. So the total outlay would be $9.6 million, including posting fee.
December 17, 2019 at 3:58 pm #117022Not a huge financial commitment, which is good.
Kim signs a two-year, $8 million deal, per source. #cardinals #stlcards https://t.co/MRIMHAKLxg
