I’d be happy if they took all the players the As were asking for and attached it to Contreras and his contact and traded him to the first team that accepts the day he is eligible to be traded.
Almost 20 million for 5 years to a 30yr below average C.

Get serious in the Turner Sweepstakes, I don’t mean pay whatever. If we get outbid, that’s fine, move on to another Position group. Plan B for the available payroll should be the trade market. Just because there is 2nd tier FA available doesn’t mean they are the answer. That’s how you end up with the Mike Leakes, Tino’s, and Fowlers.
For C I really like Murphy. Something like Carlson, Liberatore, and McGreevey for Murphy and RP Zack Jackson. Little bit of an overpay but probably needed to aquire him. If that fails, then turn attention to one of the 2 Blue Jay Catchers. Stay away from Contreras unless he is only wanting a 1 or max 2 year deal. If we do trade Carlson, I’d like to see us sign kevin kiermaier to a 1yr deal.
(This fantasy only triggers after Turner signs with another team)While the Cardinals might not be good at signing the Tier A FAs, they are extremely good at trading for players who would be a Tier A free Agent in 1 year. Then using that year to sell the player on the team, city and fan base, and then signing them to a multi-year contract. So if Ohtani becomes available, we should be in the thick of all the rumors. Only way a player like him signs a long term, it’s after he spends 5 months seeing how great it is for him to be here.
**Disclaimer: All of the above is my opinion and can be viewed as far-fetched, ridiculous, and stupid. I just had some free time and wanted to rant.
Anyone got an opinion on who Gordon Graceffo would be comparable too in MLB/Retired? As in someone comparable whether it be stuff, delivery……
I understand that no players are identical, just trying to get a feel for him as a prospect. I really haven’t heard much about him outside of what I have read on this board.
Thanks.
August 2, 2022 at 6:12 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2021-2023 #193739I got a notification that the Cardinals received a C in a three team deal with As and Reds but can’t find it anywhere now. I assume it was a minor deal. Does anyone have the details of it, or am I just imaging things.
ESPN Mock 2 0 has the Selection being
Jett Williams, SS, Rockwall Heath HS (Texas), Mississippi State commit
Though it does note that the Cardinals don’t have a preferred type, so it’s one of the harder picks to project this far out.
Incentives could bring it to 48M. I actually really like this signing.
Forgot he was Nolan Gorman’s best friend since they were little kids. Seems like getting him was a win everyway you look at it.
If I had to guess, if say for O’Neill and/or Martinez. But that’s just a guess. Seems like a good pickup but cant really judge until we know what was sent back. Either way not often the cardinals get a guy with his raw stuff a year after he was picked. He is supposed to have one of the best curveballs in the minors.
No one knows if this deal will work out or not. With that said, I absolutely love this deal. Miller was my top choice to add as far as relievers go. Imagine how much money he would of got exactly one year ago. If his physical looks good, you got to roll the dice for that amount of money.
I love this trade if it is for 1 year go.(Even better if Goldy signs a 1 year extension but no way in hell he would do that).**BUT** His declining ability to hit a ++Fastball tells me any contract extension would be regrettable by 21.
Add in that this trade cost us a chance at Harper makes it even worse. Yes I know there is no guarantee to get Harper, but you gotta pass on Goldy if there is still a chance for that.
Will say I really wish they would of signed Donaldson for 1 year now. Trade Wong, and go for it in 19. Overall I think this trade will continue to keep us in that weird situation. Situation where we are not WS contenders, but good enough where the FO keeps adding 1 piece every year for another go at it. Welcome to mediocrity.
So Wiley, you don’t want harper because he didn’t win a World Series or lead his team to the postseason every year? But you want Donaldson because he didn’t win a WS or lead his team to the postseason every year? Oh and Brantley who never won a playoff series and batted sub 200?
Guess you would rather have Heyward(1 WS) than Mike Trout also?
I think it takes at minimum Flaherty, Hicks and one other player to get the deal done. I think that 3rd player could range anywhere from Kelly to Gyorko to Gomber depending on how many teams are in it and how serious their offers are.
Ozuna can also play an above average CF, LF, RF, and if needed could probably play 1B.
By comparison Stick Abreu in CF and see how that goes.
So about Stanton
I honestly just want to read one report, where a “source” claims Stanton is “considering” approving a trade to St. Louis.
Why? Because I apparently like to be completely heartbroken when I find out he has been traded to SF.
My feelings would be
Flaherty (rotation)
Gant (bullpen)
Hudson (rotation)*I feel he will be an All Star at least once
Sherriff (bullpen)
Ravello (bench)
Voit (bench)
O’Neill (starter)
Bader (Bench)
Lino (Bench)
***Wouldn’t Diaz be considered as already making it?We will go after Stanton in the offseason, then he will be traded to another team. Afterwards Mo will come out and say we offered Piscotty for Stanton as long as the Marlins paid the rest of Stantons contract. I don’t know why Miami didn’t take that deal. We tried really hard to improve the team but we aren’t just going to make a trade for the sake of making a trade.
We need a new FO.
I will say I hated the Fowler signing then and I hate it just as much now. Fowler is not the type of guy that will push the ball club over the top, even though we are paying him like he is. To be honest, I said the same thing about Matt Holiday, and I was 100% wrong about that. Lets hope Fowler turns out the same way.
I think you just pointed out the issue. Fine is good to have but the “fine” players need to be surrounded by a couple Superstars or true all stars which we don’t have.
I’m in the camp of keeping Carpenter though. I’d rather trade Gyorko, yes I know he is more valuable with his contract, but that is why I want to trade him now. I think we could get a top prospect or 2 for him, probably along the lines if not more than what the white soxs got for Eaton.
I am a die hard Cardinals fan. Always have been, and always will be but…….. I don’t know why but I have no interest in this year(or last year) team. I still check the scores and news every night and morning, but don’t care if I see them on TV. This is the first year I don’t DVR the games. Now I will say I have went to about 15 games this year, and I enjoyed every game.
I don’t know why this years team makes me feel this way but I’m just not interested in watching them play.
July 18, 2017 at 8:02 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #27937Seems like Yanks are about to get Frazier, Kahnle, and Robertson. So that would eliminate them as trade partners.
For Dawel Lugo, Sergio Alcantara and Jose King.
Not sure how those prospects compare to guys in our system, but I am glad the Cards didn’t go after J.D.
