TC, not arguing, but also noting that Tampa Bay has a similar reputation. Interesting that the Abreu report came out of Boston, not Chicago. If I was running a team considering trading a player, I would always ensure there were at least two suitors and always make it clear the price will be high.
I would rather have Abreu than Ozuna. What would it would take to get Abreu?

BW I agree with you and I like this player. I just don’t like the history of the White Sox organization on trades. Would love to have the player if the price is reasonable. It suspect it won’t be.

I’m not sold on Ozuna. I think Abreu has a more sustained and proven track record.
Abreu is also older, costs more, and is at a position that doesn’t currently hurt us.
Ozuna has hit 23 or more home runs the last three years and just won a gold glove. People weren’t sold on Ozuna last year, and all he did was have a career year.
Abreu makes a little more because he is a better player with a proven track record. The last four years:
2014: Abreu 317 36 107
Ozuna 269 23 852015: Abreu 290 30 101
Ozuna 259 10 442016: Abreu 293 25 100
Ozuna 266 23 762017: Abreu 304 33 102
Ozuna 312 37 124Abreu has been consistently good whereas 2017 looks to be an outlier for Ozuna. Abreu is obviously the better player.

Was thinking the same thing. Obviously the simple math works if those guys have the same production next year as this past year. But players can have huge production swings year-to-year, so you have to think more globally and try to diversify when cutting a deal. Out of those three Cardinals, Piscotty is likely better than he was in ’17. Ozuna had a career year, and has not been as good as he was in ’17.
..also… If you deal carpenter for another player the abreu deal makes more sense.
Getting caught up on “this deal isnt a huge upgrade in comparison to this deal” ignores that VEERY obvious fact.
Ozuna can also play an above average CF, LF, RF, and if needed could probably play 1B.
By comparison Stick Abreu in CF and see how that goes.
I don’t want to sell low on Carpenter. I know some people aren’t happy with him, but I am ecstatic with his production. Leave well enough along at 1B. Martinez is a nice backup too.
More to this point above, the Cardinals had the fifth best production in all of baseball at 1B last year. Behind the Reds- Votto, Braves – Freeman/Adams, Diamondbacks – Goldschmidt, and Giants – Posey/Belt. Hosmer’s Royals were 7th and Abreu’s Sox were 8th.

No, but I was the most vocal person about trading for Ozuna last year, because there were things that held him down the two previous years – like the public spat with Loria that got him sent down to AAA and the injuries to his wrist in 2016.
Some people didn’t see the value in trading for Ozuna last year, and he goes out and hits 37 home runs and wins a gold glove while Fowler plays 118 games and gets moved out of center field because his defense is terrible.
