The team we have now is probably a solid AAA team – nothing more.
I really think Mikolas is done. Anyone counting on him to pitch at all any more – much less well – is begging to be disappointed.
Will Hudson be back and be good? Who knows?
Will Flaherty be injury prone the rest of his career? Who knows?
Do you really want Wainwright to be the ‘ace’ of the staff? I don’t.
I really do not think this mess is fixable in a single off season….
Still 7 out. Can this team rip off a winning streak?
If they could win 9 of 10 that might cut the deficit to 3-4 games. Back to ‘arms length’.
5-4 loss. Ugh That’s 4 L’s in a row to two of THE worst teams in baseball.
4 under .500 and 7 games out now. Looking really grim.
Now 6 games out – need to squeeze that back inside 5 and keep hanging around to see if they can turn the season.
The division is a dumpster fire – a slightly above average team can win it…..
Another pitching match up for the ages…..
I flipped a coin to see who will win and the coin said it didn’t care – couldn’t be bothered.
6-17 now on this run. I think the Pirates have too big of a lead for us to catch them but if the Cards can continue to stay hot anything is possible.
Batting Average is one thing, On Base Percentage is another and imo more important stat.
How do these cards stack up against the league in OBP?
Its not just this year.
The last half of 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and until,mid- August of 2019 was essentially .500 baseball.
The team got hot and made a Cinderella playoff run to the 2019 NLCS where their luck ran out and last year was the result of being in what was truly one of the worst divisions I have ever seen. The 4 teams that made the expanded tournament won exactly one playoff game between them.
Being the cream of the crap last season is masking the fact that this just isn’t even close to being a good, well built team.
This season is answering a lot of personnel questions with mostly negative results.
There is a mountain of work to do and roster holes to fill for 2022 – about double the amount I thought there would be.
Again, for starting pitching for next year I would count on Flaherty and maybe one of what we have now Hudson is probably the best bet but who knows how or if he will recover.
So that’s 3 starting pitchers to find or promote and hope they are good and can stay healthy.
The line up isn’t clicking, I’d bet on 3-4 new faces there to figure out.
There are simply too many question marks. I think it’ll take a couple of seasons to sort this out assuming good moves and decisions are made.
Too many ‘ifs’.
His stats don’t warrant being cut loose by all those organizations so clearly it’s his age and making room for the younger players.
He’s not great by any stretch but he’s not bad either.
I’ll bet he’s a solid clubhouse guy.
No AAA or AA players are performing well at any position of need?
Sure, the teams as a whole are bad but usually bad teams have a few good players…..
The Cardinals will at least win close to 81 games this year.
81 – 35 = 46 more victories.
So call it 41 to 51 more wins assuming 76 to 86 wins for the season.
Have no idea what we’re going to get.
Being consistently inconsistent will keep a team around the .500 mark.
As long as they can stay within 6-7 games of the division lead with a few weeks to play anything can happen. 2019 comes to mind.
Weren’t they 7 behind the Braves with 9 games left for the second WC spot in 2011? That championship has to be the most unlikely to have occurred in the history of baseball.
I have always subscribed to the theory that if you can score at least one more run than your opponent you will win most of your games.
