Add one #2 type SP, two reliable bullpen arms, resolve 3b and cf. Hopefully only 2 of the above come from outside the organization.

I hope that today was the very last time we ever see him play in a Cardinal’s uniform.
It looks really bleak for sure but – a couple of years from now hopefully we are having a much different conversation.
We don’t know right now if Bloom can get it done or not – that’s part of living in the moment.
in 1984 the Cubs won 13 of 18 games (13-5) against the Cardinals who finished 3rd 84-78 and 12.5 games back – we all know what happened in 1985.

Cardinals may as well improve their draft position at this point.
Brewers are quite the organization for sure.
It feels like the Cardinals are so far behind that they’ll never catch up but we all know that isn’t true. Next season the Cardinals could be breathing down their necks and in ’28 the division might have a new boss.
So, in thinking about th Cardinals right now; they have a few good young players but so does every team.
There’s just not quite enough of anything – not enough hitting, not enough starting pitching, but enough relief pitching, and some holes in the defense. The Cardinals are not horrible anywhere but they aren’t really good anywhere either.
I wonder if they will make any moves to add a few pieces to go with what the minor league pipeline spits out and try to be good next year or if they’ll let next year be another building year?
I could see them choosing either path.
I will expect them to at least make the playoffs next season – may be yet another real short stay but I do expect them to get in.
Walker has just gone off a cliff since the all-star break and especially the last month.

Our division is Chicago, Milwaukee, and then three teams that are trying to emulate Milwaukee.

Walker has hit 6 hrs since the ASB. How do we feel about him long term as a 15 hr per season player? Because that’s where he might end up settling in…
It’s not looking good for a winning record. I believe I had estimated 78-83 wins for 2026 (which is admittedly a pretty ‘safe’ prediction) but unless Milwaukee has nothing left to play for the last three games and plays their bench against the Cardinals even getting to 78 may be a tall order.
Well, salary caps are usually set up as a percentage of league wide revenues
In the NFL under the current CBA, the players get 48% and the owners get 52% of the pie. Obviously both sides want the pie to be as big as possible.
It’s not about limiting the money the players get to some arbitrary number; it’s about deciding how to split up the total revenue pie and then each franchise has the same allowance to spend on players.
Now what I don’t know is how league wide revenues work in MLB vs the NFL. It may not be as neat and tidy in baseball.
I’m interested in a salary cap as a way to improve competitive balance.
There are many, many factors involved but teams that have money to burn and are willing to set it on fire can (with competent management of course) stockpile more talent and paper over player injuries and busts much easier than ‘poor’ teams.
Money isn’t the end all be all but it sure is nice to have.
