Perhaps this was win #1 if a 21 game winning streak.
With prospects you have to know that most are not going to be major leaguers – much less stars.
You have to pile up the numbers, play the odds, and hope you read the tea leaves right plus that the injury gods don’t frown on you.
The organization is where it is.
Chip Carey must wonder if he’s ever going to get to call a playoff series – much less advance.
August 3, 2026 at 8:56 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #113 thread – Monday, August 3 at New York Yankees #315218Well, so far this game has perfectly mirrored the Cardinals season to this point.
A nice promising start and a putrid finish.
So if all goes well Ragsdale could conceivably get some ML at bats towards the end of 2027?
Assuming there is a season.
I wonder if Bloom has another trade coming for Stanek / Nootbar / ?
Couple of hours left to get it done.b
Got a couple of young outfielders (one very young at 18).
You never know. You pays your money and you takes your chances.
I hope we get a haul from the Brewers long list of prospects.
Brian I agree but this still makes me feel the need to go take a shower, lol.
Plus a bag of used batting practice balls.
Bloom is certainly leaving things until the last second. Hopefully with certain names off the board he can maximize the returns he gets.

August 2, 2026 at 12:41 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #113 thread – Monday, August 3 at New York Yankees #314935The team will either fight back this series or just roll on off the cliff…
August 2, 2026 at 12:40 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #112 thread – Sunday, August 2 at Toronto Blue Jays #314934Who is the piggy back ‘starter’ in case Liberatore needs to be rescued in the 3rd inning again?
I hope the Cardinals have a big day in the trade market. The clock is ticking hard.
August 2, 2026 at 9:32 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #112 thread – Sunday, August 2 at Toronto Blue Jays #314916There are 51 games left in the season including today.
If the Cardinals play .400 baseball the rest of the way that will end up being a 74 or 75 win season.
I had thought 78-83 back in April.
It’s not the total wins that bother me in 2026 – it’s the fade after a strong start that leads me to not feel good about future seasons.
Instead of growing into the season and improving as it went along its been just the opposite.
Looks like Rosenthal is a shill for the Dodgers.
August 2, 2026 at 9:23 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #112 thread – Sunday, August 2 at Toronto Blue Jays #314910I really think Liberatore is about as good as he’s going to get.
He’s pitched a ton at the ML level.
Just add him to the very long list of #4 and #5 starters / long relievers that the Cardinals seem to be so good at developing.
Do we really think there is going to be a hard cap OR a ‘hard cap’ that can be exceeded by paying a luxury tax? There’s an enormous difference between those two things.
August 2, 2026 at 9:12 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #112 thread – Sunday, August 2 at Toronto Blue Jays #314906If May is traded then Matthews moves in. If Dobbins is also being considered then yeah although if Romero is also traded Liberatore to the pen fills the lefty vacancy that would leave.
I think he might just be pitching for his rotation spot today.
August 1, 2026 at 5:05 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #111 thread – Saturday, August 1 at Toronto Blue Jays #3148552023, 2024, 2025, & 2026 – 4 years of sub-par baseball; each season a unique story of futility.
If any team needs there to be a 2027 season it’s the Cardinals. All their young players desparately need to play and not sit for a year.
August 1, 2026 at 5:02 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #111 thread – Saturday, August 1 at Toronto Blue Jays #314854Well, since the loss on June 11 to end that 6 game winning streak the team is 17-29 and have fallen to 3 games below .500
That is 6 weeks of mostly bad baseball.
I guess they aren’t too far off the pace of the 78 to 83 wins many predicted at the beginning of the season but the way they’ve gotten there casts plenty of doubt on the future.
They have not ‘grown’ into the season they have regressed and pretty badly.
So I guess a lot of this falls on two main things: A putrid offense and a putrid bullpen.
Bullpens can be built / rebuilt in a single offseason but I’m not too sure what to think about the lineup. There’s not a lot to hang your hat on there as far as thinking the offense is going to click with what they have on the roster and at AAA.
The best thing I read in the above is that Svanson is on the bus to Memphis.
I think the sword should cut both ways but apparently it dies not. Interesting.
Harsh words…
Not everyone maintains their focus after becoming generationally wealthy.
Would Gorman’s salary go up for sure? Is it possible that an arbiter might decrease his pay based on performance?
