Yes, he credits Joey Votto, Matt Holliday and a performance academy with helping him retool his swing.
Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn made a 100.5 mph to first to throw out Houston’s Yainer Diaz in the second inning, faster than any throw in a big league game since Statcast started in 2015.
July 16, 2022 at 4:03 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 94 thread – Saturday, July 16 vs. Reds #191484I was going to ask how big of a lead is safe to bring in McFarland, thought better of it, and now I see no lead is safe to bring him in.

Heck, they would probably have the sense just to waive McFarland.
July 14, 2022 at 12:57 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 91 thread – Wednesday, July 13 vs. Dodgers #191263Yes, we have had discussions about previous managers overusing the bullpen. Trotting people out there until their arms fall off. I believe that was part of the discussion the first time Hicks got injured.
McFarland should have been cut weeks ago. These bullpen games where Hicks starts and everybody throws 1-3 innings are nonsense. They tax the entire bullpen.
If we had used a multi-inning reliever like Woodford or Thompson last night, the bullpen likely wouldn’t have imploded. But they are in Memphis, because Mo can’t let every offseason free agent acquisition go…
July 13, 2022 at 11:09 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 91 thread – Wednesday, July 13 vs. Dodgers #191196The thing about moving the draft back, is we are keeping people like McFarland on the roster longer. It used to be, the Cardinals would get rid of them in June. Now, it’s July.

This is turning into a political discussion here.
July 10, 2022 at 1:22 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 88 thread – Sunday, July 10 vs. Phillies #190719The Cardinal business model is to build a 88 win team and hope to overachieve.
Starting next year, we will not have the imbalanced schedule where we get to beat up on the Reds and Pirates 19x per year.
The 88 win-model will be more difficult to sustain.
July 10, 2022 at 11:14 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 87 thread – Saturday, July 9 vs. Phillies #190707Update here on Cardinals OF Joshua Baez. His left wrist injury required surgery and he is expected to miss "a good chunk of time."
Bummer for a promising your player. https://t.co/YO3oEjHyNF

July 8, 2022 at 8:30 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 86 thread – Friday, July 8 vs. Phillies #190530Funny how people are triggered by curly hair. A guy whose value is on defense and the basepaths isn’t a “tough hard-nosed Cardinal baseball player.”
This article does say Rocker had a minor scoping procedure on his shoulder last fall.
Agreed, if Goldy is hitting well he should be extended. But right now, all we know is his contract expires in 2024 and he will be 36.
If he is extended, then Gorman can move to DH or LF.
July 3, 2022 at 2:40 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2021-2023 #189974The Cardinals are the favorites for Frankie Montas?
Ideally, neither of them would be in the outfield. Defensively, you probably want Winn at SS and Edman at 2B. But that forces Gorman to move again.
Where would Gorman go? He could move to LF, could become DH, or after 2024 he could take over 1B. Remember, Goldschmidt’s contract is up after the 2024 season, at which time he will be 36. If Gorman is put at DH, then the Cardinals are probably forced to trade Yepez or use him as a PH.
Winn may get a cup of coffee next year, but probably won’t be on the MLB team as a regular until 2024.
I’d love to see the Cardinals draft Kumar Rocker in the first round. He’s one of the few college pitchers this year who has ace potential. He fits the Cardinals democraphic of Top 10 consensus candidates (admittedly from last year) that fall out of the Top 10 and the Cardinals pounce. His bonus demands won’t be anywhere near what they were last year, either. One team is reportedly considering drafting him and using him as a reliever this year.
I’m not sure he’ll be on the board when the Cardinals choose, however.
Regarding his medicals:
– He’s had a year to rest/rehab
– If his medicals are clean, it’s in his interest to share them with teams to maximize his bonusThe other pitchers I like in the first round are Gabriel Hughes out of Gonzaga, Blade Tidwell out of Tennessee and Snelling.
June 18, 2022 at 10:32 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 67 thread – Saturday, June 18 at Red Sox #188465Wonder if any batter has ever made all three outs in an inning?
Not in MLB, but it has happened in independent ball. He got a plaque
If you are going to make an example out of somebody not running something out, you do it to Yadi.
Tre Fletcher is back and has struck out 3 more times today in the FCL to bring his year to 0-19 with 19 strikeouts. Might be the craziest stat I’ve ever seen.
Whatever they’ve been trying to teach him at the complex is having the opposite effect.
De Jong hitting a Homer one out of every 13.5 at bats
Still has an on-base percetage below .300. Needs to raise that at least 50 points.
