At least no BLD wounds from today that I remember, Wooster. Of course, you just knew the Cards were ripe for a FATNO-B9 failure and that was their ultimate undoing. That’s failure to score with runners on First And Third No Outs – in the Bottom of the 9th inning, if you’re not up on the latest metrics.

Found this. Don’t know if this means much. His avg dives but his OPS goes up late and close.
9th Inning stats look good, extra innings not.

    Great batters fail 7 of 10 PA’s

Whether a hitter who succeeds 3 of 10 PAs is a great hitter depends on whether he tends to do it when it matters or is just good at padding his stats when it doesn’t.

Agree Bling, so high leverage matters more than low leverage? That’s what you’re saying?

This team is really no different than the teams we have had the last several years. Sputter, sputter, hang around.500, then go on a little hot streak, and squeak into the playoffs at the last second only to make a quick exit from the playoffs. I expect 2022 to be no different.

The name on the door of the manager’s office doesn’t matter because the Cardinals are always going to build an 88 win team and hope for the best.

Not arguing with those rankings or the basic point, but the comparison using attendance is not a direct representation of revenues. For most MLB teams, what they call “Game Day Revenues” (tickets, parking, concessions, etc.) are about 40% of total, as I recall. The Cards are more dependent than most, with it over 50%.

None of these teams are going broke. They could all spend more if they choose.

Of course they could spend more, but in the case of the Cardinals it’s how they’ve spent what they have. They have too many gaps and they are stuck in the middle with a thin line between just getting in and not getting in at all. That’s as close to mediocrity as a franchise can get. It’s stale and needs a major shake up for better or worse. But the age old complaint of profit taking at the expenses of the on field product rings true. Their goal isn’t to win championships its to make money. They do just enough and that is their business model. The fan will just have to except it.

Don’t forget the Pujols/Molina swan song year, which is really Mo’s and the DeWitt’s focus for this season I believe. Speaking of Molina… where is he? Still nursing right knee inflammation down in the PR while his team is struggling? Haven’t seen him around lately, but correct me if I’m wrong.

Riding the payroll clock back home in PR is lame. He should be with the team, at least for homestands, or at the Complex in Jupiter. Hopefully he isn’t putting on more weight and is staying somewhat fit, since I am sure we will be seeing him again.

I’ve fallen behind on reading the articles, is there any news about DeJong or Baez?

ZTR, hate to correct you but it’s Mojitos, not daiquiri’s.

Yes EURO that FATNO-B9 is an excellent stat
I was contemplating adding a new stat. Since we have exhibited huge failures to develop any bases loaded situations lately we could use the ammended ABLD for 2 men on. The -Almost Bases Loaded Dud- stat. Typically however for single men on it will be the HdHdhGT stat. How the He– did he Get There. Which will require somebody taking notes on how we did it!
