I absolutely cannot stand Saturday afternoon games. I wish the Cards would schedule more of their Saturday games at night. How did our Saturday games mutate into afternoon games anyway? Seems like years ago most of them were at night.

I am the opposite, Rat. I love day baseball and think there should be more of it. The schedule I don’t like are night games on getaway days. Those should all be day games. Like the Monday game we played against the Phillies – would have liked that to have been an afternoon affair. Plus I am a bit selfish as I love having the game on while at the office, or working from hom.

Having said that, last night’s win felt hollow somehow. We beat the Reds, who while they have played better are not exactly a threat for a post season berth. And once again our bullpen cannot keep a team down.

We are too good of a club to let this lousy bullpen sabotage our chances. We need to DFA McFarland and get Thompson in there, and probably do the same with VerHagen and get Woodford on the roster. Meanwhile hopefully Mo is working the phones on a deal for a good starter. It will be expensive and likely cost us Burleson and maybe someone like Nootbaar or even Yepez, depending on years of control.

Seems like there might be less drunken or druggie crazies on the downtown streets on Saturday afternoon than late Saturday evening, as fans walk to their cars. I’m all for day games during the weekend.

Yes, but it is unrealistic to think he can get a good starter with years of control for Burleson and Yepez or Nootbaar. Anyone with a good starter to trade will be able to find a far better deal. He might get someone at the end of a contract or who is significantly underperforming a big contract.

Gorman’s value is probably not what we have been thinking either, having emerged as a straight platoon player with a high K rate and lowish BA and OBP. Our chips that anyone with a good starting pitcher with years of control to trade are probably Edman, Donovan, Carlson, Helsley. And I think either Walker or Graceffo would be part of it. Otherwise, someone else will make a better offer.

Do I think Mo will do it? No.

He should not trade any of those. Trade Flaherty, Dejong and some lower minor league players.

Gorman? He’s a young kid who’s adjusting to the major leagues and is a star in the making. No way they trade him.

Nicholas Frank Lodolo……tall (6’6) drink of water out of Texas Christian. Nick brings both a lofty ERA and WHIP into today’s ballgame, but do not…….and I repeat…..DO NOT let that fool you. Studying the probable matchups and the intricacies of Lodolo’s pitching, the stars have aligned perfectly in his direction. This game today sets up beautifully for Lodolo to spin himself a very nice ballgame. But this doesn’t mean he’s necessarily going to prevail. Somehow, someway, our Cardinals should find a way to win this ballgame, despite Lodolo’s fine effort. I’m with the majority here in not agreeing with the esteemed Rat about Saturday day games, as I love them. What’s for din-din tonight one may ask? Two hamburgers with a big slab of raw onion on top, with yellow mustard and pickle. Potato salad, deviled eggs, baked beans and homemade apple/pecan pie with Breyer’s vanilla ice cream resting precariously on top.

Very refreshing seeing the Crew blow a 5-2 9th inning advantage to SF last night. The Giants whacked 3 dingers in the 9th, capped off with a Yaz Jr. granny……..8-5 Frisco your final.

I watched that Brewers/Giants game Pugs. I was going to post it but I was too tired. And Whitey Herdog was too tired too so we just hit the hay.

Din din today will be a thick center cut rib chop in the air fryer with some Aces High sweet corn, a Pepsi, and then a piece of chocolate cake for dessert. All of this about the time of 1st pitch today. I am sure there will be at least one if not two 7×50 Palma Real cigars on the agenda as me and Whitey Herdog sit on the couch, taking in today’s titanic struggle.

The most dastardly thing those dastardly Cubs ever did was cave to the pressure and install lights. Let there be more day baseball! ESPECIALLY on weekends.

I agree with those who would toss Flaherty out there to see if we get any bites, perhaps add Sosa, Pujols and Dickerson, though I doubt that would help much.

Well, I’m off to start my duck breasts, dauphinoise potatoes and broccoli din-din. We will finish off yesterday’s blueberry crisp for dessert.

    Rah Cardinals!

Big question to Cardinal In France. Do you use cream only or milk and cream in your wondrous dauphinoise potatoes?

We are t going to get anything that would help us for flaherty or players like that. It’s just ludicrous to think that way. If you don’t want to give up some of the so called young talent that isn’t helping you right now that much, then the best you are going to get is the verhagens and the McFarlane’s of the world and hope they have a magic run. If you want to be a true contender and not just settle for some kind of above average mediocrity, you have to be willing to give away pieces that may end up not being that great anyway. Right now those young pieces are just potential, nothing more. The best teams give up good pieces to get better in areas they need to improve. If you don’t want to give up those pieces, them this is about as good as it will be. Shouldn’t have expectations of too much more.

Pugs: Cream only, and lots and lots of crushed garlic.

1982 Willie: I have absolutely no expectations for giving up dead weight or barely breathing weight.

I am working on an organic bean burrito, cheddar sunchips, green grapes, and a large diet mountain dew. I will wait until tonight for my little debbie chocolate brownie.

I don’t see us trading Flaherty since he is on the IL and since he will count as Mo’s big deadline acquisition, albeit a month late.

Mikolas gets through first inning giving up 1 dinger. Better than yesterday. Albert, Nooty and Knizner added from yesterday. I think everybody else is about the same. Obviously 2 from yesterday not playing.
Din-din will be baked chicken , corn, carrots and potatoes all at once. The easy way!
    Go Cardinals!

Someone mentioned DeJong also. With what he is owed on his contract he has negative value. Once he is cut loose someone will give him a chance like happened with Carpenter.

Sosa leaned out intentionally. I also think the pitch might have been a strike. That’s something that I’ve always thought should have some reworking in the rules if it isn’t in there already

Oh oh Nooty can’t hit a curve? I hope not. Gets 1 BLD (bases loaded dud) tied with Goldy, Gorman and somebodyelse- don’t remember. Got 2 runs this inning by being there. One run lead!
