Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn made a 100.5 mph to first to throw out Houston’s Yainer Diaz in the second inning, faster than any throw in a big league game since Statcast started in 2015.
July 17, 2022 at 7:31 am #191548Focus is entirely on scouting with no credit whatsoever to player development. In reality, both are key contributors to future major leaguers.
#STLCards are being mentioned as team with the kind of prospect talent to trade for Juan Soto. Realistic? No, don't think so. But it's more proof scouting director Randy Flores has been crushing it. And another #MLB draft starts today. For @stltoday: https://t.co/2qFY4JTNBP

July 17, 2022 at 9:37 am #191557Yadi’s rehab is going well as seen on the broadcast of his Puerto Rican basketball team.
Yadi being Yadi. Yadier Molina who is the owner of the Vaqueros Bayamón in the profesional Basketball team in Puerto Rico got ejected after kicking the ball 😂😂😳😳@JomboyMedia @BaseballBros @hgomez27 @Jared_Carrabis pic.twitter.com/trxHY1vBnl

July 17, 2022 at 12:30 pm #191570As I said in a thread a couple of weeks ago the stars of this organization are Randy Flores and Gary LaRocque. They are making Mo look good and offsetting his free agency adventures.
July 20, 2022 at 10:55 pm #191970Pinder and Roberts are old for AA, but Pinder has nearly as many rbis as Walker in less than half the games. Maybe he is a late bloomer with his checkered injury past?
Roberts might be useful as reliever, as his draft consensus was he had a mid 90s fastball paired with possibly the best slider in the draft. He could be a helpful middle reliever.July 21, 2022 at 7:20 am #19197814NyquisTParticipantPinder can hit…. at what level is questionable. They have to challenge him asap.
July 21, 2022 at 8:27 am #191984Roberts and Pinder Will be tough tô protect in the Rule 5 draft
July 21, 2022 at 9:27 am #191991IMO, the biggest danger would be if Roberts finishes the season well, he could be worth a Rule 5 flyer if not protected. Relievers would seem to have the highest chance of being taken.
Paniaugua is another who could be a Rule 5 loss, but the Cards would seem to have extra roster spots available with Yadi, Wainright, Pujols, Dickerson, and McFarland becoming free agents.
July 21, 2022 at 10:45 am #191999bccranParticipantPindar’s minor league stats =
1,133 PAs
281 games
.252/.366/.369/.735Is he better this season? Yes, at AA ball as a 26 year old guy after 6 years in the minors against younger kids who have less experience than he does.
July 21, 2022 at 2:47 pm #192019Davila is an exciting pitcher for the FCL. 6 shutout innings today. I saw him pitch, and he was throwing in the mid 90s last year. He has shown improvement this year, and should, like Hence and Paniagua, be promoted.
July 23, 2022 at 2:52 pm #192232Always looking for a glimmer of hope with the youngsters. It’s clearly been a disasterous year thus far for Tre Fletcher. I see he’s playing again and today had one K in 4 plate appearances.
I’m not saying it’s time to celebrate but at least he’s back on the field. We’ll see how the rest of the season goes.July 25, 2022 at 9:11 am #192487Can we look for merit based promotions, or will Graceffo, Winn, Walker, Hence, Paniagua have to wait for an injury? There is little more than a month left in the minor league season. (Although AAA runs into mid September)
July 26, 2022 at 10:20 am #192600Here’s one.
The #STLCards have promoted their June systemwide Pitcher of the Month, 22-year-old Inohan Paniagua, from Palm Beach to Peoria. The right-hander was also the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for 7/4-10. Our no. 17 prospect has a 2.18 ERA in 17 starts for the Beach Birds. pic.twitter.com/VQd8GpENZA

July 26, 2022 at 10:54 am #192604Smsrt move. Paniagua was really cruising at Palm Beach, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does in Peoria.
July 26, 2022 at 11:24 am #192605Interesting story from BA. The blame for the historically bad record across the entire system in 2021 was placed on promoting players too aggressively. The fix was to be more “deliberate” in promotions in 2022, per Mo. My view is that while it was likely a factor, there was a lot more to it than that.
While there is certainly progress this year, the system’s aggregate W/L percentage is still below .500 and is right on the edge of being in the bottom third in MLB (19th or 20th). But that is surely better than 30th/last.
I just don’t feel that it is a “massive turnaround” quite yet.
P.S. The limited number of top prospects remain strong, but the W/L record of the system requires a deeper and broader talent base than at most two or three future MLBers per affiliate.
Cardinals affiliates posted the fifth-lowest winning percentage in modern minor league history last year.
After a change in philosophy, the organization has returned to being a player development juggernaut in 2022.https://t.co/yT6yXfYUGn

P.S. For those who subscribe and want to re-read my 2021 system assessment, it is here.
July 26, 2022 at 3:44 pm #192631OF Matt Koperniak has been transferred from Springfield (AA) to Memphis (AAA).
RHP Inohan Paniagua & RHP Jack Ralston have been transferred from Palm Beach (A) to Peoria (A+).
LHP Colin Schmid (A+) & RHP Enmanuel Solano (A+) have been released.

July 27, 2022 at 6:59 pm #192776Romero and Dunn are looking much improved this year. I saw where Dunn has batted cleanup several times. Both have averages at or around .300.
Watching Graceffo pitch on MILB.
July 27, 2022 at 7:52 pm #192785Tonight’s observations:
Graceffo looks good, but the home run ball has bit him twice both on first pitches. I guess that’s the downside of a strike thrower.
Hence with 4 innings, 2 hits and a run allowed, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Strange they haven’t stretched him out further with only 65 pitches.
July 28, 2022 at 10:10 am #192837Deluzio and Gomez, despite his strikeouts, were shrewd minor league signings. Both could offer 4th outfielder jobs in the big leagues. Gomez’ ticket would be power (29 homers), while Deluzio would be more versatile, with a little pop, and speed (28 stolen bases), and defense.
July 28, 2022 at 10:17 am #192839bccranParticipantReally like the versatility that Deluzio brings, along with speed and some pop. Seems like a better option than Nootbaar and Capel.
July 28, 2022 at 2:36 pm #192851Gomez seems like a sure roster add. DeLuzio is a tougher call and becomes a minor league FA if not added.
July 28, 2022 at 3:57 pm #192857If they don’t need DeLuzio this season (and they already picked Capel before him), I can’t see the Cards using a 40-man spot on him this winter. DeLuzio first reached Triple-A in 2019 and turns 28 years old next week. He would be a quick fill in guy, not a stash and hold guy. There will be others with a higher ceiling to protect, IMO.
July 29, 2022 at 8:30 am #19289614NyquisTParticipantTwo MEM infielders are beginning to turn their ’22 season into offensive positives. Delvin Perez and Evan Mendoza are putting themselves the running for the Card’s pre-milb draft 40-man roster. The highly touted Perez (1st rd. ’16) has had a torrid July…. (.382 1.108) and after a disappointing start has raised his stats significantly. On June he was batting .160 and was batting 9th and when DeJong was sent down he took over Perez’ spot at SS. Wasn’t looking too good for our once #1 prospect. He did nowever pick up some major playing time at 2B and 3B.
Mendoza was always an offensive threat in his days in the organization. Now playing his age 26 season his meager AAA numbers were surprising most. But recently getting hot this July (.400 1.027) he may have gotten his confidence back. He’s got his avg up to .255 after being at .215 at the end of last month. Versatility was always a plus for Mendoza. He lost his 1B spot to Baker this season but can play just about everywhere else.
Its good to see these two guys finally putting it together this season. Let’s hope it continues.
July 29, 2022 at 9:20 am #192901Disagree about Mendoza’s history as an offensive threat. He hás not even shown mediocre power with a career OPS below. 700.
Another player entering the off season roster discussion is catcher Júlio Rodriguez who hás an .857 OPS um AA. Minor league FA if not added tô the 40 man roster.
July 29, 2022 at 9:30 am #192904bccranParticipantPlenty of guys on the 40 man who qualify for removal – VerHagen,
Fernandez, McFarland, Romine, Whitley, Walsh, Capel, Nootbaar, Naile, etc. -
