Tre Fletcher is back and has struck out 3 more times today in the FCL to bring his year to 0-19 with 19 strikeouts. Might be the craziest stat I’ve ever seen.
Whatever they’ve been trying to teach him at the complex is having the opposite effect.

One day after his first caught stealing of the season, he had a homer, double, and single, to raise his Double-A average back to .300, with a near-.900 OPS.Talk about a hard luck loss… Wilfredo Pereira went 5 innings, 1 hit, no walks an unearned run and 7 Ks for Peoria today. He took the loss. The bullpen gave up 7 runs in the last two innings to ice the game away.
On another note, Antico had his 27th stolen base. His overall line is improving quite a bit lately. If he can find a way on base, he’s a weapon.

Jordan Walker is NOT on the 7-day injury list, so whatever ails him is apparently not too serious, chitown. (Nothing on the team website, either. But you likely knew all that anyway.) It’s a shame he missed some of the games at Midland, as that is one of just 2 or 3 series in his entire season when the Springfield Birds will play in a Texas League hitter’s park.
Here’s a question I did not think I’d be asking this year: if for the sake of discussion Walker is going to be a corner outfielder of average defensive contributions, and Masyn Blaze Winn is going to be an average MLB defensive shortstop, then has Winn caught Walker in terms of overall prospect rankings?

For me, no. Winn is an exciting prospect and should definitely be well within the top 100 when the raters get their lists together. I think he starts at SS for 5-6 years at least. Walker has some crazy potential in that bat, and the speed is sneaky, with a good arm. Unless he’s a butcher on the grass, I could see him manning RF a long time and wowing us with some OPSes that start with 1.something. The potential is scary high.

I saw Perreira pitch live in Peoria. He was very impressive. He was a hard luck loser with the only run scoring when the catcher threw the ball down the right field line after a dropped third strike, followed shortly by an error on the shortstop allowing the run to score. Perreira was 91-94 on his fastball, had lots of movement in his breaking ball and change up. He pretty hard to square by the Quad City batters. I’d move him up to our top 40 prospects, perhaps more if he an continue pitching gems like this one.

Regarding Blaze Winn catching Walker, I don’t think we are there yet. It’s exciting to think about him leading off, stealing 50 with a .350 OBP. I don’t see Edman getting to 50 but he’s on pace for 35+.

I agree with you and StL25, ChiTown, that we aren’t quite there. But we’re getting closer by the week. Masyn Winn has played 50 games. If we triple his 2022 stats to a 150-game season:
.332 average with 57 doubles, 21 triples, and 12 homers. And 48-for-51 stealing bases. Wow.
But that’s mostly extrapolated from his High-A numbers; what happens if we just take his Double-A hitting performance, and pro-rate that to a full season?
How about a .300 average with 27 homers and 71 doubles? Not too shabby. I mean, for a shortstop in Double-A who just turned 20 a few weeks before Opening Day, and who steals bunches of bases while rarely being caught, and who is yet to ground into a double play this year. For a guy like that, who bats .300 with 98 extra-base hits. Not shabby at all.
My favorite stat about Winn this year, though, is this one: Masyn Blaze Winn is on pace to be the first age-appropriate minor leaguer to rank in the top 15 in all of minor league baseball in both doubles and triples in the same season, since at least 2005. (Fangraphs’ minor league records only go back to 2006. And B-Ref research would be faaar too tedious for this question.)
He is currently 5th in doubles and 2nd in triples, in all the minors. That’s nuts. For me he is a no-doubt top 12-15 overall prospect. (Anyone ranking him much lower than that is either a fool or not paying attention.) I have him 7th, three spots behind Jordan Walker. And even if Winn were to go 0-for-300 for Springfield the rest of the way, he’d still be a top 20 overall prospect because of how he absolutely dominated High-A both at the plate and on the bases at a young age. His 90th percentile upside is roughly the 2019 & 2022 versions of Tommy Edman, and that’s roughly a superstar.
Winn has shown great improvement and consistency with the bat. I believe that the was scouts big concern. But I feel that Walker could be something very special with the bat. He could hit 30 homers, drive in 100 plus runs, while hitting with a high average. Even throw in some surprising speed/base running for a big guy.
Both Winn and Walker should be top 100 prospects. And you can throw in Burleson too. He has to be one of the best 100 prospects in baseball at this point.

Agreed 1,000,000%. I think Jordan Walker’s upside = Matt Holliday with better defense and baserunning. And that’s a superstar. Take Judge + Stanton + Dave Winfield, put them in a blender, and you’ve got Jordan Walker. Look out, N.L. Central.
