1:15 p.m.
RHP Andre Pallante (2-4, 3.03) vs. LHP Cristopher Sanchez (1-1, 3.48)
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
Also BSSO and BSSW+July 9, 2022 at 7:23 pm #190677On a good note from yesterday. The Pirates came back and beat Milwaukee 4-3. We stay 3.5 games back.
LHP in Sanchez. I suppose that means #5 will be in the lineup for this one.
July 10, 2022 at 7:11 am #190688It’s pretty darn alarming how we struggle greatly vs decent teams. I love our Cardinals to no end, but I’m not sure how I’m going to realistically muster up the admiration and grandiose thoughts of winning the WS, when we’re beating up Cincinnati and Pittsburgh in a couple of weeks? I’m beginning to think we should be sellers and not buyers as we head towards the trading deadline. I’m not advocating breaking the team totally down, just maybe deal marginal players like a Bader or Flaherty…..if we could get much of anything for them. But come to think of it, who wants a broken down pitcher for the stretch run?
July 10, 2022 at 7:58 am #190697bccranParticipantMaybe they’ll score a run today.
July 10, 2022 at 9:03 am #190701You don’t want to make a deal in a panic situation. Plus you don’t want to sell low. We need to keep Flaherty because he is a better pitcher than his value at this moment.
One thing that is really hurting us is losing both O’Neill and Molina for the better part of the season so far. Ty would likely be a 7 WAR player if healthy all season. That is a lot to make up. Yadi brings leadership and still a decent bat to the catcher position. Had Kniziner stepped up and at least carried a .250 bat with a little power we could have maintained that spot. But a .175 bat and losing the other things Yadi brings has really dampened the club’s success.
If we get those two back over the last couple of months, and maybe Flaherty and/or Matz come back at full strength, the momentum will build and we could have a tough club to contend with come late September.
July 10, 2022 at 9:33 am #190702Tough stretch. Need to scratch out enough wins to at play .500 ball until players get back some sort of trade can be made.
Have lost 7 games in the standings to the Brewers over 2-3 weeks. Gotta stop the bleeding and stabilize the patient.
Again, this is now 8 1/2 years of slightly above average baseball. FO & ownership have got to figure out how to provide more than a ‘cream of the crap’ product pretty soon…..

The Cardinal business model is to build a 88 win team and hope to overachieve. This approach allows them to be “pretty good” almost every year but rarely ever great. This “steady as she goes approach” allows the turnstiles to continue turning as the brass doesn’t feel that the Cardinal fans have the stomach for a couple of down years if they go “all in” and trade away some prospects. Or maybe it is the brass who doesn’t have the stomach for it.

July 10, 2022 at 12:58 pm #190714#STLCards CF Dylan Carlson is a late scratch from the lineup. The 23-year-old Carlson, who has been brilliant in CF defensively of late, will be replaced by Lars Nootbaar. Corey Dickerson will bat fifth, Albert Pujols is sixth and Nootbaar will bat seventh.

July 10, 2022 at 1:12 pm #190717Losing 2-3 to the Cubs and 2-3 to Philly in consecutive home series’, with a 2-5 road trip sandwiched in between, is pretty darn lame. I’m already counting today’s game as a win for our boys ……they couldn’t possibly lose again today could they?
July 10, 2022 at 1:22 pm #190718The first 3 Phillies single and just like that it’s 1-0 Philadelphia and they’re looking for a bunch more. With the way we’ve not been hitting, the one run by itself may be enough for Philly.
The 6-4-3 twin killing is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Phillies get just the one run.
July 10, 2022 at 1:22 pm #190719The Cardinal business model is to build a 88 win team and hope to overachieve.
Starting next year, we will not have the imbalanced schedule where we get to beat up on the Reds and Pirates 19x per year.
The 88 win-model will be more difficult to sustain.
July 10, 2022 at 1:31 pm #190721Great point, LACardFan. Having to play the Yanks, Jays, Rays, BoSox, Twins, Astros…..heck, nearly all of the AL clubs including Baltimore, is not going to enhance our seasonal win total one bit.
July 10, 2022 at 1:33 pm #190722Edman in a colossal funk at 4 hits in his last 34 at bats.
July 10, 2022 at 1:36 pm #190723Cy Nelson whiffs every Cardinal he faces in the 1st inning.
July 10, 2022 at 1:38 pm #190724The first 3 Phillies single and just like that it’s 1-0
And the first 3 Cardinals strike out swinging and just like that it stays 1-0.
July 10, 2022 at 1:44 pm #190725Hey Euro……and Neil Pallante mows down the Phils in order here in the 2nd. It’s high time to put a little offense on display.
July 10, 2022 at 1:51 pm #190726What the hell just happened?
Hey to you too, Pugs.
July 10, 2022 at 1:56 pm #190727The effect of next year’s scheduling change making it harder on Central Division teams who don’t win the Division is partially offset by the extra WC slot that went into effect this year.
July 10, 2022 at 1:59 pm #190728Romine swings at ball four in what would have forced in a run with a walk. And the slumping Edman weakly grounds to first. A run finally though.
July 10, 2022 at 2:04 pm #190729Romine and Edman now at 1BLD each. Albert, Goldy and Gkrman eacg with 1 BLD also. Now a 5 way tie.Who will jump into the lead?
July 10, 2022 at 2:21 pm #190730Birds load the sacks up to their capacity once again here in the 3rd with just one out. Albert at the dish….. let’s momentarily stay with matters shall we?
On 2-0 Albert raps into a 5-4-3 DP to deflate the Redbird 3rd inning aspirations.
Game knotted at 1-1.
July 10, 2022 at 2:21 pm #190731Dang – Albert hit it well, but right at the third slacker. Between short and third and we had two runs.
July 10, 2022 at 2:23 pm #190732I’m not too “familiar” with this Philadelphia reliever.
July 10, 2022 at 2:26 pm #190733Albert surges ahead in BLD- bases loaded dud. Leading at 2 this series. C’mon guys Jeez…
