I think pujols comes out like a rose compared to yadi here..pujols got a 20% raise and 40mm more at the age of “31” at the peak of his career…yadi negotiating as a 38 year old former great player trending down defensively (which was always his paramount value) and realistically asking for a few more million (4-8?? just a guess)

Really bad optics for yadi to go public in a time like this.

I dont know that any team would pay yadi anything but backup type money in a contract through the fall of 22, so this is really just negotiating pujol$ style.

Edit: i do think a team would pay him starter money through 22, just not significantly more, really leaves a bad taste in my mouth about him.

Said one person on the technical side: “Of all the guys on my crew I talked to, it was like “(the heck with) that, a loan is not going to do us any good when baseball kicks back up and they want to take $250 out” of our checks per game for the first 10 worked. “We appreciate the offer, but no thanks.”

He said none of the colleagues he talked to is taking the loan.

“It may help now, but it will hurt us come June, July,” he said.

**some brilliant financial minds there…I have a friend who is bagging groceries (high demand now) in dallas for 18 dollars and hour after being fired last week. His new job starts in July but he needs to pay the bills. He also knows its his own fault for not having at least 3 months of saving liquid..anytime you can take an interest free loan, do it.

Im a little surprised also, nate silver has the cards at 55%..

Im not sure how the metrics are measured, im sure we get a nod beacuse we control our own destiny, but maybe alot of the stats going AGAINST the rocks have to do with the fact that the phil/nats overall run diff are favorable and adjusted for coors could be better?

I think we need to get back to 1.5 up at the end of this series to have a chance, which means (obviously) that the rockies have to drop at least one against the phillies. Thats probable, but us winning these next two game certainly isnt.

even if you are the best team in the league, visiting the worst..you cant be disappointed for not sweeping a series…

cards in this just need to keep winning series after series…and hope for a little luck along the way.

Nate silver now has stl @ 29% playoff chances…

probably contrarian, but anyone else still in the trade carp camp…who is a good AL target?

Would boston possibly part with benintendi if we traded carp with hudson and hicks? I have zero idea why they would have interest now, but after a possible early playoff exit exposing their lack of pitching maybe possible?

“The thing most right about the organization is pitching. And that is the most important strength you can have.” sooner nc (sorry i still dont know how to quote here)

strength is only important in one area if you can either utilize it or maximize it in a trade with a competitive advantage, which was the goal…i dont think we have really been as effective here as our FO would like…

is the oneill for gonzalez trade a win? Objectively, not really, but the goal is having a competitive edge to trade from. Over the years I dont know that we can say we have fully utilized that objective, at least yet.

Correct me if im wrong. But the original idea to draft SP was to UTILIZE if need be with good mif defense, and trade for bats. We have simply gone off the rails entirely.

I lost all faith in our FO when we chose ozuna over yelich…at the time i figured well these are the pros, and they know something i dont. In reality they simply bot high on a player who spent his entire career being protected by mike stanton, instead of a natural ball player with a high floor.

I dont believe that this “non story” about hicks/norris was a mistake..i still dont get the point of the story, was it supposed to have racial undertones? The media is mostly terrible(not you brian) but this one i simply dont get..unless…

it was purposeful… i wonder if these stories were allowed to be played up by our FO in order to have an excuse for this firing, and to possibly be sellers..

uless munoz can show to be a capable 4th of, he belongs in the al…marp needs to be gone in offseason as well along with j mart…we really have nothing to “tear down” lol

man this thread seems incredibly trollish after a game in which he accounted from every rbi and had 2hrs…yadier molina is not going anywhere, unless he is hitting 150 he will get the majority of the starts, he will get 2k hits, and retire a cardinal and an hof… hell if he keeps hitting for power he might change his mind about retiring to try to get a one yr contract if still healthy to 200hrs, and the cardinals will prob give it to him. I dont know how anyone can not see this…

I think most people on this board would rather see this team make moves to position themselves for the future in spite of this year..maybe im wrong, we are not better than the cubs, and i dont think this team can compete in the postseason. The goal of the FO is to be in a position to compete for the playoffs every year… but what other fan base would absorb a retool better than the cardinals?

Its not like we are 2-3 years away, we could moves now that would position ourselves for success in the near future…im in favor of trading almost anyone with a contract, i know that sounds monday morning qb or reactionary but i am. I want to see above avg mif defense first and foremost and build from there…a fluid 6-4-3 to beat out a fast runner would be amazing, and seems like something we used to take for granted…

Baseball is already trending this way, but if this brewers team can get to the postseason with their rotation id expect the value of quality pen arms to rise significantly.

Their starting 5 just is simply below average, but they continue to win with their stellar pen and late offensive production supporting them..

One of the advantages we have (our our FO has) is that we have a fan base that only really cares about wins. That seems obvious, but other markets might need a big name draw after a poor season to get fans back into the seats. The cardinals dont have that problem.

If we, yet again, make a legit effort to land a big name and that player chooses a larger market, everything else equal, we might just need to put even MORE focus on building from within. In other words just spend capital on prospects to trade…and add supplemental pieces via FA.

Its what weve been doing, but i dont see the point of spending 10-20% more than our competition on a mega contract to land one player

“Like I mentioned in another thread unless Reyes and Flaherty can also swing a mean bat I don’t know if our win total will increase much. Our offense and bullpen must step up.”

I struggling with this line of thinking…arent we all on board with the idea that winning at baseball is about a positive margin of runs generated over runs saved? I agree our offense needs to improve, but adding quality pitching, regardless of offensive run output can only be a net positive…

serious question: is jedd gyorko discounted primarily because of his appearance?

I read an article re carpenter this am lamenting the fact that we are now resigned to have jedd as a starter, as a know quantity he (jedd) “is what he is”…excuse me?

Unlike carp, jedd was an elite hitting prospect…i remember before his draft year, and after his rookie season people talking about him as a realistic future 285/30 home run guy…and yes, he took a few years to develop. But developing he certainly has been. He has progressively improved in every area of his game including defensively. Not only is he a great replacement, i think he is a good starter in the NL and certainly the AL.

The only problem i can see people having with him is that he looks like the guy you call when someone calls in sick for softball and need a bench spot..your life insurance salesman or your CPA. At 29 years old, im perfectly comfortable with him as our starting 3b for the rest of this year and next.

pugs perhaps the site picked up on the fact you lied about your age and thought you were an unauthorized user : )))

I was on the road for most of the day and bernie miklasz spent a good majority of his show talking about how MM was doing this team a huge injustice by not starting gyorko…i remember a similar show last year with a pham grichuck comparison…

I really hope carp isnt at the end of his rope..but there is really no excuse to put him in the lineup at this point

I understand the point of a cardinals forum is to discuss these things, but cant those who are staunchly in the “trade carp” camp (been there for years) admit that if you want to do that you need to at least play him to get close to his career avg #s?

If hes done, hes done..i dont buy that but i firmly believe hes fading..but maybe the cards dont want to have two assets sitting on the bench, fowler is close.

thats a good follow up question, not quite sure, but whoever it is (apparently) his vote is equal to others? Mo seems like a professional corporate wordsmith, so it was just really surprising to see him be so candid, today a room full of 50 people with smartphones might as well be speaking to the public when you are in his position
