cards/sox i can understand laying out for that with two outs and runners on second and third, but his jump was terrible, he just doesnt look athletic

ive been trying to find the interview with ozuna where he half brags about “never watching tape” ive really had it with this guy, not trying to be reactionary, everyone goes into slumps, hes swinging at curves and sliders way out of the zone and looking like a kid in the outfield, plus there is his secret arm injury…im officially worried about this team

have we totally abandoned the idea of spot starting martinez as an OF? I realize he is below average, but i figured he’d at least get a 10-15 starts out there. I dont know that hiding him at 1b is any better than rf when fowler needs a day off..

albert goes 0fer tonight, still 5 hits away from 3k..

they have 4 games left in the homestand before they hit the road, youd have to wonder if he doesnt get it in these next 4 games if they bench him? Its not like they would be missing the offense!

putting carpenter anywhere in the lineup (or the infield) over gyorko at this point boggles my mind…

watching martinez error again makes me just wonder how long he can remain at 1b…the fsmw commentators tried to give him an “out” by saying the ball caught a lip and died, but there is no excuse for him not to get in front of that ball..i dont even think its laziness as much as just his body had to be tired, hes an excellent batter but just not the athletic type.

We are still a ground ball team, these are costly runs, you cannot expect this offense to come out an average 7 runs a game to win ballgames…i hate to say it, but he is the PERFECT DH, and hes not getting any younger..i just yearn for the old days of solid infield defense coupled with good pitching

as a positive he does look a bit more disciplined at the plate than he did earlier in april (ozuna). I was never a huge believer that he would repeat last year’s line. But a .270/25-30 hr season with plus defense should be what he can produce..

Speaking of outfielders I dont see how dexter can finish out his contract a starter, maybe even as early as 2020

the throw by ozuna was almost more worrisome than the misplay on the ball, nice play by wong to limit the damage

    stlcard35-

i agree with your figures, but i just refuse to believe the cards FO will be willing to offer that kind of $$

and i dont blame them…who needs a ss/3b? if say the yanks are out, most likely boston, or the nats if harper leaves? they could put zimmerman at 1b…i still dont count out balt to resign…

Im curious though about your opinion about flaherty over reyes…do you just feel the latter’s upside is overvalued?

Yes 100%… considering his range it would really solve most of our infield defensive probs..

I agree, although as crazy as it sounds i wonder if he would bite on a 10yr/300mm considering..

Hes only 25 and already a 30 War career player, an elite defender and seemingly on a breakout season with the bat. In fact he might be on the same level demand wise as harper, i really dont that thats a stretch.

There is no way the cards will deal reyes, but i could see flaherty to get the deal done in a sign and trade. Im guessing carp would be the odd man out if so in a salary dump.

Just personally, I dont think machado gets 13 years..unless its a creative contract with club options etc..He will prob get 10yrs with an opt out..the problem is while he can still likely hit, will he have the same range a few years from now? I for one am glad the cardinals have largely stayed away from the huge contracts.

edit: also i dont think the cards would give away flaherty for any rental unless we were in a serious postseason hunt, but they would obviously in a sign and trade situation…

its important to remember though that this is why we draft pitching, to get a competitive advantage in the space, then trade…or at least thats the idea

Some kind of not good news thats not backed by hard evidence …

I had a lunch with our corporate attorney today, he said that there is now new evidence that in the process of being presented in the cmart/taveras scandal that will lead to a criminal indictment in august…i have no idea why august, or what the evidence is because he wouldnt go into it in further detail, but he seemed pretty positive. Again just what i heard from him, hope hes wrong…

Also worth noting that yadi hit (then eclipsed later) 1750 hits with his single, then notched his 800th rbi with his home run.

I know he said he was done after 2020 season, but it would be great to see him get 1k rbis along with the 2k hits..if he keeps hitting at this clip with hrs he might have a chance

Norris obviously has the spot for now, but id like to see him today in a non pressure situation, im guessing we will…

just saying 3 innings in april is a small sample size to judge…

if Joey Votto were a FA next year and he produced the SAME line as last year, what would his contract be? As a 35 yr old would he garner a 5yr/125mm contract? I cant see anyone giving him 5yrs and if they did the AAV would be significantly lower.

So im not sure this continued line of reasoning that the reds could get pieces, or elite prospects for joey votto. In my opinion they would be lucky to dump his salary in full, and im sure they would like to.

I went to college in ohio and lived in cincy for a short time. Id categorize them as HUGE sports fans, but there is no doubt that ohio is a football state. That being said i think they can and will draw if they begin to compete, theres just no reason to fork over hard earned dollars for the product they are putting out now…

I think you give kolten a mulligan for april considering his defense…

but with gyorko back, he really has no business in the lineup against any lefty, ever, and im guessing come may the team will simply spot start him if this continues…

you feel bad for him because he did change his approach, and it worked for a bit, and it seems like he is really working, just doesnt produce results…

here’s a question brian, and im not trying to make a point just curious…

Being much more than a casual baseball fan yourself, if you were a reds fan, and not a cards fan…would you want them to bring senzel up this year so you could see him? Knowing that it would start his clock and POSSIBLY hamper their payroll flexibility a few years down the road when you are hoping they could contend?
