Most true fans understand the art of the tank at this point, I totally get the point about senzel, and yeah its obvious, but more than likely bringing him up wouldnt change the fact that they are a last place team. One thing that could bring the more casual fan to GABP are the prices, like busch they are egregious, especially for a midwestern city. Although im sure they employ someone more intelligent than myself who would disagree!

“As long as they don’t resign Waino even with a very good season I am fine with him this year.”

I get it, waino hasnt been waino really since 2014..but hes gotten his thank you contract, and im sure he doesnt want to sign elsewhere. If he stays healthy he can certainly be an asset, and i think we could use him for a cheap one year contract.

“Another “must do” is to try to get a haul for Votto from a contending club this summer.”

votto will be owed 125m over the next 5 yrs remaining on his contract starting after this year..

he will be 35 years old, i could see someone taking that contract on if he continues to produce at the same level this year, but can you really see them getting anything significant from a trade in terms of prospects? I think the time to trade him was a few years ago…

I know hes not considered a plus defender but is he a liability? How is his arm?

“A long leash? How many games should we let him blow while we are waiting for him to get it together? Losses in April still count. I would have him on an extremely short leash until he proves he is ready.”

Who is a better option right now in our pen? And there is the 14mm…i just dont see any real reason to send him down now unless gregerson exceeds expectations and holland continues to struggle over his next 3 to 4 outings

Am i correct or incorrect in assuming that holland got simulated game experience in the FA spring camp in fort myers? ( or wherever it was?)

Or was his rehab in west palm his first experience this year?

I think sending him down would be foolish, i admittedly didnt have time to read the article but we need the pen help and his leash should be long

You would think if marp could combat the shift by now he would…im not sure why he doesnt try to lay down or at least show bunt every now and then

Also, its worth noting that the spread between his BA and babip hasnt narrowed in the past 3 years, which would lead you to believe that the shift hasnt really been his problem…or at least its not something you could point to specifically the explain his drop off.

To me the ump makes or breaks him. If you can see a wide strike zone developing early in the game he will struggle.

You’d think both teams would want to get this game in. Game time temps in mid to high 30s but no rain/snow. Winds are light for wrigley at 8-10 mph

I really dont get it when i see mlb players look miserable in 40 degree weather. I understand baseball doesnt involve as much moving around as other sports that are sometimes played in cold weather but you can certainly keep yourself moving and loose.

Personally for me the only thing that bothered me in high school playing football and baseball during cold was the wind…besides that id that 45 over 95 100 times out of 100…

“Why panic here? Two years ago Joey Votto was hitting about .200 in late may and early June.”

Joey Votto has been the most consistently excellent 1b over the last few years from an offensive standpoint, and is in my opinion a probable HOF…> matt carpenter

If we could win this series that would be great, if take one out of 3 im still not that upset..their pitching has been subpar but they are also facing waino and wacha..if we could somehow get quality starts out of them in the first two games i like our chances with rizzo on the DL

edit: not even quality starts as much as just 6 innings…6/4er would be ok

“grays, if Carpenter can only hit .160 in the NL, what makes you think he can hit appreciably better in the AL?

I guess, you are assuming his playing in the field is hurting his swing, but I’ve seen nothing firm to draw that correlation. Let me know if I missed it, though.”

***I just think he has more value everything else equal, in the AL because of his sub par def being less of a liability in a higher scoring league..i think he will certainly improve from .160, and should be moved from the 3 spot..

If 2 goals for this team in the near future are
1- improving infield defense and 2- obtaining a power/corner bat (would more than likely be infield) I just dont see where carpenter fits on this team

“If Carpenter is injured (again/still), why can they not get him right? And if it is chronic, then what should his future be?”

I think he is (was?) a perfect AL trade candidate, where he can DH and spot start at the corners effectively…there are a handful of players in the mlb that can continue in the 3 hole for an extended period of time with this poor of a performance because you know its an anomaly, MARP is not on that list…

It looks like this system could be out of cincy within a few hrs if they really want to get this one in, I would just have to assume the field conditions are terrible…

brian, has there been any other demand shown for a second printing of your prospect guide? If so do youhave any idea when it might available for sale?

According to an ex girlfriend from cincy, who i can tell you from experience has a penchant for providing bad news, this should be an effective sweep today should we hold on as the field will be basically flooded tomorrow…

my guess is cozart was fortunate to sign early in the offseason, i dont think the reds thought they could afford to resign…i like him alot as a player, but considering his age it seems as though he could have been had for much less $$ had he tried to let the market develop, perhaps if he had he could have been a red for a 2/20 in feb

I pulled up the palm beach cards website today to see how delvin perez has been doing so far and noticed he had been sent back down to JC…has he fallen out of cards favor? Is there a reason he wouldnt at least go to peoria?

Considering the size of the potential machado contract im guessing the o’s might change their mind on the 72hr negotiating window for a sign and trade

was joking about bucknor that was a little simon and garfunkel humor lol…

we used to joke that angel hernandez and bucknor must have had a time share together in the keys booked for every october…how in the world can two professionals be so questionable and keep their jobs? Oh yeah, the union : )
