If pujols doesnt make a serious improvement (no reason for anyone to assume he would) this has to be his last year to get significant playing time. As ref’d in the article, a similar season to last yr would put him at a .301 lifetime hitter…I’d guess if he stays healthy he will announce his retirement after the 2018 season and get his swan song season mostly off the bench.

I dont think pujols will be a cardinal hof, moreno knew these years would be here, he paid for the chase to 500/600hrs, 3k hits, and now the chase to 2k rbis to sell tickets.

I think lumped into that is his legacy to be rembered as an angel, and not a cardinal.

“It isn’t like Martinez or Wacha’s first starts of the season were much better”

lets be fair..cmart got squeezed a on his first start, as did syndargarrd..but from a velo standpoint there isnt a real comparison there..waino seems to be in a full slide

he should get a few more starts but if everything remains the same im sad to say he belongs in the pen, a justin verlander style revival doesnt seem to be realistic at this point

Unless im missing someone, pham has the 3rd longest tenure with the org behind yadi and waino (barely)…his injuries have kept him out of stl, not our FO, until last year.

He does have a HUGE gripe about not playing in 2017, but in the team’s defense, they were looking to get grichuk ABs because they wanted a long term option, and pham simply cannot be counted on as one..

I dont see pham in stl a few years from now for several reasons (attitude, age, farm OFs) so i dont see it as much of an issue going forward as long as he keeps quiet from now on

I expect him to get a huge ovation today though…even though most fans seem to be against his actions/words

I wasnt able to get an up close look at gyroko in nyc as i was in the 3rd deck for games : / but watching him yesterday it looked like he has dropped a few lbs or at least gotten in better shape in the offseason..not sure if he has mentioned that or its been noted anywhere

hoping martinez can keep this up against righties….

Are we to the point that its to holland’s advantage to wait until the date when he is no longer associated with a draft pick? Im assuming at that time teams who might have interest on the cusp (cards, giants, brews) would have a clearer idea if they were real contenders or not. At this point, save a last minute cubs signing id say its looking that way? Amazing offseason…

so yeah im bumping this bc i have the first pick bc i dogged it nba style last /aug/september…

left on the board are in order of preseason rank:

    (already keeping freddie freeman-3b/1b)

    goldy
    trea turner
    nolan
    giancarlo
    kris bryant
    kershaw
    lindor
    scherzer

im off turner and kershaw….no keepers were SPs so im considering trying to start a pitching run and taking max and hoping to get nolan on the other end but i doubt he will be there…

    so im leaning:

    nolan
    bryant
    lindor
or correa off a bad stat year

any thoughts? If you do roto and give me insight i promise ill check this thread and give you mine in in the future!
